This project proposes strategic guidelines that preserve the historic character and cultural heritage of Old Goa while addressing the impacts of urbanization. The design approach emphasizes minimizing future developmental pressures through context-sensitive strategies that align with the site's rich historical significance.
Old Goa, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its extensive collection of built heritage, including over 50 significant monuments. Among these, 21 are recognized as monuments of national importance, with seven forming part of UNESCO's designated “Group of Monuments” of World Heritage. These structures, dating back to the 16th century, showcase innovative architectural techniques and hold immense cultural value.
The proposed interpretation centre seeks to create a meaningful dialogue between Old Goa's past and present, ensuring the site’s heritage is celebrated and protected while accommodating sustainable development.
