United Way of Racine County provides leadership for several community-wide initiatives that help advance the common good and ensure Racine County residents have opportunities for better lives. Engage students in afterschool programming three or more hours per week and you will see a myriad of positive results including decreases in risky behaviors and improved school performance. A new resource wesbsite has been established to help students, parents and other professionals working with youth and families find out about programs available:

Imagination Library began in 1996 by Dolly Parton to foster a love of reading and provide quality books for every child, regardless of income. In 2009, United Way of Racine County launched this initiative for young children (birth to age five) in the communities of western Racine County. Parents register their children to receive quality books in the mail each month until age five.

Family Smart/Kid Friendly (FSKF) represents a county-wide collaborative approach to empower families to raise and nurture their children ensuring healthy development and ultimately school readiness by age six. FSKF is funded in partnership with Racine County Human Services Department with support services delivered through Family Literacy of Racine, Love Inc, Racine Family YMCA, and Western Racine County Health Department. Advancing Family Assets (AFA) provides wrap-around support services to eligible low-income families so they can function well in their day-to-day lives as employees, family members, and productive citizens. The goal of AFA is to serve at least 500 families in Racine County over the next 10 years, to increase the number of reliable, productive workers and reduce the number of families living in poverty.
