From 1980s Berlin to the haunting Louisiana bayou, Carrie Henneman Shaw’s Default Mode Network explores composers’ wildly virtuosic and colorful explorations of the solitary singer.

Sparks fly in this duo piano collaboration including Schumann’s elegant “Andante and Variations” and finger-blistering transcriptions of Prokofiev’s “Classical Symphony” and Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances.”

Violist/composer Melia Watras, narrator Shelia Daniels, violinist Michael Jinsoo Lim and vocalist Carrie Henneman Shaw perform newly commissioned music by Alessandra Barrett and Leilehua Lanzilotti and works by Melia Watras and Frances White.

Colleagues Tekla Cunningham, Rachel Lee Priday, Michael Jinsoo Lim, and Melia Watras perform 18 duos for violin and viola in the world premiere of a new work by faculty composer/violist Melia Watras.

Craig Sheppard, Cristina Valdés, Bonnie Whiting, James Benoit Bartók: Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion MT Monday, 7:30pm

Faculty pianists Craig Sheppard and Cristina Valdés, faculty percussionist Bonnie Whiting, and Seattle principal timpanist James Benoit perform this exhilarating and popular work, written in 1937.

Brechemin Auditorium Brechemin Auditorium is on the southeast end of the School of Music’s main floor.

Events at Meany Center The School of Music follows protocol and policies of Meany Center for the Performing Arts for all events staged at the Katharyn Alvord Gerlich Theater and the Meany Studio Theater. Masks are required in all indoor spaces on the UW campus, and patrons must show proof of vaccination or recent (within 72 hours of the performance) negative COVID-19 test for entry to live events at Meany Hall. Enhanced sanitation measures and touchless ticketing are among other safety measures in effect for 2021-22.
