United Way of the Coastal Empire has been improving lives in Effingham County for decades. We partner with local nonprofits, faith leaders, and other community collaboratives to provide critical Safety Net programs, services, and pathways for Upward Mobility to help everyone thrive.

OUR WORK
THROUGH COMMUNITY FUND PROGRAMS
The Community Fund aided 11,696 Effingham residents through grant funding for 43 agencies and programs. In addition to the support the United Way provides to partner agencies, 207 residents were assisted through direct services and programs at the Effingham County Service Center. Below are some of the ways we made an impact this past year.
SAFETY NET
u $371,238 saved in prescription costs.
u Provided transportation aid to 36 residents totaling $4,678
u Assisted 54 families with rental and utility assistance in their time of need, totaling $23,910.
u Through the Churches United partnership, we worked with local faith-based organizations to provide an additional $5,328 in assistance for rent, utilities, relocation, and rehousing of local families.
UPWARD MOBILITY
u Completed 337 tax returns through the VITA program, re-investing a total of $326,240 back into the local economy.
u Distributed 3,747 books to preschool through 2nd grade students to increase early childhood literacy through READ UNITED Day and the Summer Reading Program.
u 62 differently abled children were provided therapeutic counseling to build confidence and life skills through equine therapy.
