TOGETHER WE CAN REVIVE OUR OCEANS

SAVING LIVES AND REVIVING THE OCEAN

SAVING LIVES AND REVIVING THE OCEAN
The sea, boats and students have been central to activities at UWC Atlantic since its inception in 1962. It has always given students a strong sense of authentic responsibility, helped students learn more about themselves as well as help others.
In 2022, UWC Atlantic partnered with Atlantic Pacific to continue this legacy and build a joint venture together.
Atlantic Pacific is a charity with its origins at the UWC Atlantic seafront. Founded by UWC Atlantic alumnus, Robin Jenkins (UWCA ‘92), their mission is to reduce global drowning by providing lifeboats to places where there are none.
Together we created AP@AC, a part of the service element for a student's CAS ( Creativity, Activity and Service) programme that is an integral component of the current International Baccalaureate and is also a large part of our new International Baccalaureate programme, the Systems Transformation Pathway.
This partnership has created a new project which meets our aim to develop a sustainable home and supports our focus on experiential learning - one of the key pillars of our new Systems Transformation Pathway.
The Ocean Revival project plans to tackle two issues at the same timeaddressing worldwide drowning and also eliminating plastic pollution. Plastic waste makes up 80% of marine pollution worldwide and we want to innovate and provide a blueprint for communities worldwide to repurpose their plastics into life-saving equipment.

Reviving the oceans needs investment and we hope you also share our dreams. Here are the costs we are hoping to raise over the next five years.
CAPITAL & EQUIPMENT - £10,000
This investment will allow us to repurpose our workshops and shipping containers into recycling centres ready to transform the plastics we collect.
COURSE DEVELOPMENT - £300,000
£60,000 per annum is needed for us to run and develop these unique courses that will not only bring back the history of boat-building at UWC Atlantic but it will also pioneering ocean revival and life saving with Atlantic Pacific.
Together we can clean the oceans of plastic and revive boat building at UWC Atlantic.
“This is a really exciting time at the college when it comes to the seafront. There is a real appetite to return to our innovative boat building roots.”
– Robin Jenkins, Atlantic Pacific Founder
