President’s Note

I am humbled to be your International Student Department (ISD) President for this year and what a year It has been so far. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you for the taking the challenges thrown at us in stride and making it this far. While we are still in the midst of the global pandemic, it has been extremely comforting to see everyone come out and stand together in Unity . When Olivia told me what she had in mind for this edition of lighthouse, it brought tears to my eyes as I really saw the amount of togetherness our international community here at UWA had. As individuals who care for others. As individuals who stand for what we believe in. The real Unity begins with You. You-nity. The past 6 months have showed us that when we stand united, we can overcome even a global pandemic. If you are onshore here in perth, this might be the first holiday you spent away from home. It was my first as well. There were days when i am sure you missed home, family and mostly the food. It was tough and we made it! We did not do it alone. We had friends and those closest to us to have road trips, day trips, food adventures, experimental cooking (god bless our dalgona coffee and brownie baking from quarantine) and movie nights even. These are the people we will treasure for the rest of our lives as those we spent our Covid-19 times with. If you are back home, I know it hasn’t been smooth sailing either with having to change over to online classes while in an environment you were not ready to study in. You made it! These challenges thrown onto us and how we emerged from them show the strength that each and every one of us posses on route to attaining our education! Keep pushing and we will get through these times together. I am very proud of the entire ISD team and have been so humbled to be serving the international students alongside some incredibly hardworking and passionate individuals who make ISD what it is today. A very big shout out to each and every one of them for the events and initiatives they have put forward and made a reality. Keep up with the ISD team ((much easier than keeping up with the Kardashians)) and the events we are putting up through our facebook and Instagram! They come thick and fast but are so wholesome and enjoyable. I look forward to meeting more of you guys either in person or through our online events! Have an awesome semester ahead and remember, you are not alone. We will stand United as International Students no matter where you are globally. Hello my fellow international friends! To those who have just begun your educational journey here at UWA, I extend my heartiest welcome and for those who are returning, welcome back to semester 2 2020!
