TheOfficeofFinancialAidispleasedtoannouncethatthe2025-2026FAFSAisnowopen, providingstudentstheopportunitytostartpreparingfortheupcomingacademicyear.Weare happytoreportthattherewerenomajorchangestotheFAFSAthisyear,andtheapplication processhasbeenrunningmuchmoresmoothlythanthepreviousyear.Thisisgreatnewsfor studentsastheycanlookforwardtoastreamlinedexperiencewhilesecuringthefinancialaid theyneed.
Thissummer,theOfficeofFinancialAidsuccessfullyappliedforandreceived$10,000in scholarshipfundingfromtheEllucianFoundationPATHScholarshipProgram.Wewerethrilledby theoverwhelmingresponsefromstudents,with190applicationssubmitted.Aftercareful consideration,10deservingstudentswereselectedtoreceive$1,000eachfortheFallterm. Lookingahead,weplantoapplyforthisfundingagainnextyearwithhopesofsecuringadditional resourcestosupportourstudentsfurther.
Whilethisyearhaspresenteditsshareofchallengesinfinancialaid,ithasalsobeenincredibly rewarding.WeareontracktoawardanddisbursethelargestFederalPellGrantstodate, providingessentialsupporttoourstudents.Additionally,wewerefortunatetoreceiveadditional fundingthroughtheFederalSupplementalEducationalOpportunityGrant(FSEOG)andthe FederalWork-StudyProgram.Theseextraresourceshaveallowedustoenhanceouraward packages,ensuringthatmorestudentsinneedbenefitfromthesecriticalprograms. TheOfficeofFinancialAidremainscommittedtosupportingourstudentsandtheireducational journeys.Welookforwardtocontinuingourworktosecurefundingandresourcesthatwillhelp makeeducationmoreaccessibleandaffordable.

HOUSINGHIGHLIGHTS Wehadour3rdhighestFallsemesteroccupancynumbersin12years(only2017and2018were higher),withmorethan85%ofbedsoccupiedoncampus.
Inanticipationoftheseincreasednumbers,thedecisionwasmadeopenSeldenHalltoallresidents andnolongerofferingsororitywings.Instead,wewereabletoofferoneroomper fraternity/sororityononewinginthebuildingthatprovidesstorageand/ormeetingspace,and allowingforallotherroomstobeavailabletoresidents.Withthischange,ouroccupancyrateat Seldenmovedfrom51%in2023to91%in2024.
Anumberofresourceshavebeenaddedtoourengagementandprogrammingresources,including acottoncandymachine(definitelythebiggesthitthissemester!),professionalcornholeboards, Plinko,a3”buttonmaker&circlecutter,andawagontomakeiteasierforstafftotakeitemsto programsandcommunitymeetings.
Withnewstatelawsregardingvapesandotherelectroniccigarettedevices,UWAHousing’salcohol, drug,andtobaccopolicywasupdatedtoprohibittheuseorpossessionofthesedevicesbyall residents,regardlessofage.
InOctober,AngelametwithstudentsintheTRIOprogramtodiscussallthingsHousing,including studentstaffleadershipopportunities.

InOctober,AngelaandShellyattendedthestateHousingOfficers(ALAHO)Conference,alongwith3 halldirectorsandagraduateassistant.Notonlydidstudentandprofessionalstaffnetworkwith professionalsfromaroundthestate,buttheymetanumberofvendors,includingseveralwework withregularlyforfurnitureandsoftware–StarRez,Foliot,SmarterFurnishings,andBrillwerejusta fewthatwerepresentattheconference.Vendorswereespeciallyimpressedwithbeingableto interactwithourstudentstaffmembersanddiscussthewaysthattheyworkwithcollegeand universitiesacrossthecountrytoprovidequalityproductstobestserveourstudents.
ShellyFastattendedtheACUHO-I/APPAFacilitiesandBusinessOperationsConferenceinOctober, whereshenetworkedwithhousingfacilitiesstaffmembersaroundthecountry,metwithcurrentand potentialnewvendors,andattendednumerouspresentationsaboutbestpractices Shellywas awardedtwoscholarships,onefromACUHO-IandonefromSEAHO,tohelpcoverherexpensesforthe conference.
Housinghad3staffmemberselectedtotheHomecomingCourtthisyear,plusoneadditionalwho madetheHomecomingCourtballot.QueencourtmemberswereMadelynBrasher(GilbertHD),Alexis Jones(HooverHD),andMaganColeman(GilbertRA).AlsoontheballotwasMakaylaLawrence (SeldenRA).
HousingcelebratedourPAWsomestudentstaffmemberswithResidentAssistantAppreciationWeek November11th–15th.Theweekstartedwithdonuts,pastries,andcoffee,andcontinuedwith personalizedhandwrittenpostcards,specialrecognitionatAllStaff,anRAAppreciationReception, andpersonalrecognitionfromtheirHallDirectors.
Forfinals,Housingcreatedasetof24TigerLeaderAffirmationCardsforstudentstaffmembersto helpthemstayfocusedandrememberthattheyareimportant,theycandothis,andtheyaremaking adifference.ItwaspairedwithaCalmStripandapositiveaffirmationclip.
COMMUNITYHIGHLIGHTS HousingkickedofftheyearatCAB’sTigerFest,providingpopcorntostudents.
StaffpromotedbreastcancerawarenessandeducationthroughCandyCoatedCompassioninthe lobbyofGilbertHallinOctober.
Residentswereencouragedtotakeabreaktorelaxthroughcoloring,puttingtogetherpuzzles, andenjoyingfreecoffee,encouragingstickers,andaffirmationcards,duringDeadDay. EachhallcelebratedHalloweenintheirownway,fromdecoratingpumpkinsanddoorhangers andsinging‘Scary-oke’toreversetrick-or-treatingandsolvingmurdermysteries. BingoandTrivianightswerepopularthissemester,withanumberofvariationsofeach–ThanksgivingBingo,AcademicSuccessBingo,UWAtrivia,andTrickorTrivia.
Residentsreallyenjoyedgamenightsallovercampus,whetheritinvolvedboardgames,outdoor gamesandactivities,pingpong,videogames,orcardgames.

HostedFREEhotchocolateoncafeteriasidewalk–86cupsweregivenaway ADASatisfactionSurveyclosedonDecember6,2024.With26responses-allresponsesindicatedasimple, timelyprocesswithapositiveexperience.
ACCOMMODATIONSUMMARY SERVICESTATION SponsoredtheUWAServiceStationgearedtoward helpingstudentsensuretheirvehicleissafefortravel astheypreparetogohomeforthebreak.Volunteers cleanedwindshields,addedwasherfluid,checkedoil levels(offeredrecommendationonhowtocorrectifoil waslow),andcheckedtirepressureandadjustingas needed.Inaddition,thevolunteerscheckedthe taillights,brakelights,headlights,andturnsignals. TheOfficeofInternationalProgramsisproudtosharetheachievementsandhighlightsofFall2024.Thissemester, theUniversityofWestAlabama(UWA)welcomed100internationalstudentsfrom44differentcountries,withthe largestgroupshailingfromChina,Germany,theUnitedKingdom(eachwithninestudents),andIndia(witheight students).ThemostpopularundergraduateprogramsamongthesestudentswereBachelorofBusiness Administration(BBA),ComputerEngineeringTechnology(CET),andSportManagement(SM),whiletheMasterof BusinessAdministration(MBA)ledthegraduateprograms
Throughoutthesemester,over20eventswereorganizedtocelebrateculturaldiversityandfosterengagement. MajorhighlightsincludedtheMoonFestivalCelebration,whichfeaturedtraditionalEastAsianperformances, cuisine,andstorytelling,andtheDiwaliCelebration,avibrantfestivaloflightsshowcasingIndianculture Additionally,UWAhosteddelegationsfromGuangdongUniversityofFinanceandFuyangNormalUniversity, strengtheningourinternationalpartnershipsandpavingthewayforfuturecollaborations.
Asignificantmilestonewasreachedwithourfall2025recruitmentefforts,aswereceivedover300international studentapplications thelargestinourhistory.Lookingahead,weanticipatea10%increaseininternational enrollmentforthespringterm,reflectingthesuccessofouroutreachinitiativesandourcommitmenttoglobal academicexcellence.
