Military Friendly

UW-Platteville is committed to supporting our men and women in uniform. Our Wright Center for Non-Traditional and Veteran Students works to provide support and enhance the experience of our veteran students. The university is also a designated Yellow Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and for six consecutive years, we have been ranked as a military-friendly school.

FEDERAL AND STATE BENEFITS

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers a variety of education benefits. Additional benefits also may be available at the state level and will vary by state. To determine your eligibility or which program is right for you, please contact your county veterans service officer or a veterans benefits counselor.

WE’RE HERE TO HELP

UW-Platteville has staff dedicated to the service of veterans. Due to the number of benefit programs and their complexity, it is vital that you contact the Wright Center for Non-traditional and Veteran Students. If you plan to use military benefits, you will need to provide your DD214 and a copy of your VA letter that states your eligibility for benefits.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT | CHRISTOPHER JEFFERSON

“While attending UW-Platteville, I received nothing but support from some of the kindest and most intellectually driven individuals I’ve met,” said Jefferson. “I just want to give a genuine thank you to the university for creating that environment. I’m a firm believer that the environment you set is important for the success and growth of not just yourself, but also your team.”

M.S. in Engineering alumnus Christopher Jefferson commands the launch operations division of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), an agency within the National Intelligence Community. The Lieutenant Colonel is the most junior officer in the agency’s history to become mission director for a multi-million dollar national security space mission. Jefferson made history on July 15, 2020. That was the day he helped launch NRO Launch-129, a vitally important intelligence satellite.

Graduating from UW-Platteville in 2008 with a Master of Science in Engineering, Jefferson believes a sound academic foundation led to his current professional success
