UNITY Many of us speaks different languages. The words may sound different but the definition of those words all means the same thing. I designed a piece that can be viewed two different ways. From afar it takes shape of a bird and from up close, you can see that the bird is made up of a single word that is translated into 30 different languages. And that word is “unity.�

I envisioned this annual event to be an awards show like the Oscars. I thought that these young film makers deserved to receive an award to can be displayed on their rooms proudly, for their hard work. So I created an award that can be easily made with an acrylic glass. I designed the event information in the shape of a trophy to add more to the awards show theme.

I was tired of seeing the same old boxing promotional posters with the fighter’s faces in them and their names on a 3D chromed font, so I designed a poster without using this same old style. I illustrated a fist to represent a fight between two names that is globally recognized.

BELIEVE This quote is from the anime show “Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.” The main character is known for his obnoxious quotes and this one was the most memorable for me. The “B” on top symbolizes him being on top with his trademarked shades and unwavering smile. The drill that makes up the word is their group’s weapon of choice because, “This drill is the drill that will pierces the Heavens.”

ODDITY This is for the gallery show with the theme of “oddity.” For me, the oddest part of designer’s body are their eyes. It is because we see things that normal people don’t see. For example, when I see someone’s eyelashes, I see a row of trees with fallen leaves that spells out the word “oddity.”

ERNIE BALL GUITAR STRINGS Victorian patterns and guitars are a classic combination. So I designed a pattern to make the packaging to look and feel like the strings produces bright, classical sounds when you strum them. There would be 6 different white packets for each gauges of the strings. Those packets will all be put inside the black metallic foil packaging.

D’ADDARIO GUITAR STRINGS I changed their logo type into a retro writing style. The swirls symbolized the wounded wrap around feature on the strings. I did a typographic style of description on the back for a fun way to read at the product’s descriptions. There would be 6 white packets for each string gauge that would be put inside the orange box.

A process color for printing. It uses subtractive model which uses 4 colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. When the first 3 colors are added together, it produces a very dark brown color. The black is then used to completely remove the light from the printed picture to create black, It is used for printing photos, posters, magazines, and many others.

PRINT LANGUAGE BOOKLET This is my first booklet that I wrote and designed. This is for beginner graphics designers so that they can have a little guide book for the industry’s terminology. I styled this book as a photo book so you can easily visually match the terms with a photo example that is provided on the right side of every page. ARTEMIS MISSION PATCH This is a mission patch for the next lunar landing, which I made up, called “Artemis.� It is shaped like a guitar pick because I want to play my guitar on outer space one day using this pick. On the alternate patch, the first crescent represents Earth, the second one is our moon, and the last one is the red planet for the ultimate goal of landing on Mars.

GOLD PEAK TEA I changed Gold Peak’s logo to start with their rebranding. I thought of how would their packaging would look like if they decided to become more premium. First I changed their plastic bottles into a glass bottle with another glass bottle inside of it like a thermostat. Then for the limited edition tea, I made a wood container with their new logo engraved on top of the cap.

SHONEN JUMP FONT I hand crafted every single character from scratch to make it look and feel like calligraphy brush strokes. Instead of using Kanji characters, I used Latin alphabets for the English translations of the manga dialogues for the western audience. I showcased the font in some of my drawings to show you how it would look like inside a manga. You can download the free version of the font at: uvaworks.com.

YVONNE SILVA Her logo has a literal and a hidden meaning in it. You can easily see the bird logo that symbolizes her beautiful voice for singing. Do you see her logo that spells “YS� for her initials? I hand lettered her name using a flat tip calligraphy pen. There is also the G-clef stem under the S to further indicate that she is a musician.
