THE BASICS MEAL SWIPES

For your all-you-care-to-eat meals at dining rooms on Grounds: O’Hill, Fresh Food Co., and Runk.

MEAL EXCHANGE + TO-GO Meal Exchange allows you a swipe for particular combos at select retail locations on Grounds. Only one ME OR To-Go swipe per hour is permitted.

There is a daily limit of 2-3 ME or To-Go swipes.

PLUS DOLLARS You can spend Plus Dollars at all on-Grounds cafés, restaurants, and convenience stores. Plus Dollars work at every location, tax-free. You can add Plus Dollars at any time. Plus Dollars can only be used for food purchases.

SUSTAINABILITY GREEN DINING

At UVA Dining, we utilize the Green Thread™ environmental sustainability platform to weave sustainable policies and practices throughout everything we do. We focus on responsible sourcing, waste reduction, education, and outreach to continually advance sustainable food at UVA.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING We purchase local, seasonal and responsibly raised, grown and sourced products whenever possible. We partner with local distributors to source Virginia grown produce within 250 miles and meats raised within 500 miles.

WASTE REDUCTION • We utilize LeanPath technology to track and monitor food waste in our dining rooms. Any unavoidable food waste is composted through our partnership with Black Bear Composting.

• We encourage students to skip single-use plastics through signage, educational events, and spaces that offer front-of-house composting.

OUTREACH Say hello to our Sustainability Coordinator and Green Dining Ambassadors throughout the year at special sustainability themed events like Farm to Fork, Weigh the Waste, and the Farmers Market! They are there to offer educational materials about our programs and share how to dine sustainably on Grounds!

HEALTH & WELLNESS Our Health & Wellness program is under the leadership of Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist, Dr. Paula C. Caravati, Ph. D, R.D.N. along with her Health & Wellness peer interns. If you have special dietary needs or therapeutic dietary requests, Dr. Caravati is available to meet with you to discuss how these needs can be accommodated within your meal plan.

The Health & Wellness team holds weekly educational events about various aspects of healthy living and eating.

Our Copper Hood program and our Individual Plate (IP) are both designed to easily assist those with allergies within or outside the Big 8. The Copper Hood station is located at each of the three major residential dining rooms (Fresh Food Co. in Newcomb Hall, Runk, and O’Hill). Our residential dining room staff are also happy to help out students who are looking for special dining accommodations.

CVILLE POP-UP Experience the tastes of

Charlottesville without leaving Grounds! Twice a month, a local Charlottesville restaurant takes over a residential dining room station and serves up a selection from their menu. Past features have included The Juice Laundry, Little Manila, Mochiko, among many others!

FARMERS MARKET Put on by our Green Dining team, the UVA Dining Farmers Market features an abundance of local vendors serving everything from popcorn to kimchi.

CHEF EXPO Come meet the chefs who work tirelessly to cook our food! Chat with them, learn more about them, and enjoy a recipe chosen and prepared by the chef themselves.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHAT HAPPENS TO UNUSED MEAL SWIPES AND PLUS DOLLARS? No worries! At the end of the fall semester, any swipes or Plus Dollars you haven’t used will roll over into the spring semester unless you downgrade or cancel. Swipes and Plus Dollars do not, however, roll over from spring to fall and are non-refundable. Any Plus Dollars you add mid-semester (“Additional Plus Dollars”) can be refunded with written request to dining@virginia.edu by May 8, 2020.

CAN I CHANGE MY MEAL PLAN? You can upgrade your meal plan at any point in the year. If you would like to downgrade your meal plan or cancel, however, you must notify the UVA Dining Administration Office by filling out a Change Form no later than September 4, 2019 for the fall semester and between December 1, 2019 and January 22, 2020 for the spring. Meal plan changes are not accepted by phone.

HOW DO I PAY FOR MY MEAL PLAN? Your meal plan will be billed through SIS. If you have any questions about paying for your meal plan after you have been billed, please contact Student Financial Services at sfs@virginia.edu.

DOES MY MEAL PLAN ROLL OVER FROM SPRING TO FALL? No, it does not. Your Corner Cash does, though (as long as you have a meal plan)!

CAN I USE MY PLUS DOLLARS TO BUY NON-FOOD ITEMS? No. Due to Virginia tax laws, Plus Dollars may be used only to purchase food. For Plus Dollar delivery through Papa John’s and Ming Dynasty, Plus Dollars may not be used for tips.

WHAT DO I DO IF I’M A VARSITY ATHLETE? All varsity athletes must sign up for an Athletics meal plan.

The same base options for meal plans are available to athletes, but these include additional programming and menu items available to varsity athletes only.

LIVE IN A RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE? If you live in Hereford Residential College (Norris and Whyburn), Brown College, or in one of the Language Houses (French, Spanish, Shea), you are required to sign up for a Residential College meal plan. The same base options for meal plans are available, but these also include additional benefits and menu items available to residential college residents only.

DO PARENTS EAT FOR FREE? Yes! With our Parents Eat Free program, all parents dine for free in any of our all-you-care-to-eat residential dining rooms with their student on a meal plan. The student must be present.

WHAT ARE THE DOOR RATES WITHOUT A MEAL PLAN? Breakfast - $9.84, Lunch - $12.02, Dinner - $12.47 (includes tax)

HOW DO I CHECK MY BALANCE? Visit virginia.edu/cavalieradvantage and select “Access Your Account Online.” Select “Plus Dollars” and log in with your NetBadge to view your balance.

ARE KOSHER AND HALAL OPTIONS AVAILABLE? Kosher frozen entrees, prepared sandwiches, and cold salads are available upon request at all residential dining rooms for all students.

All unprocessed chicken that is served in residential dining rooms (aside from processed dishes such as chicken nuggets, tenders, fried chicken sandwiches) are certified halal.
