We focus on responsible sourcing, waste minimization, transportation management, and efficient operations as part of our Green Thread environmental sustainability platform. 4

WHY COMPOST? Composting prevents harmful methane emissions that result from putting food and organics in landfill and instead recycles these materials back into the earth to create more nutrient-rich soil.

IN 2019, UVA DINING DIVERTED 601,162 POUNDS OF COMPOST FROM THE LANDFILL

All compost from our locations is composted by a local company, Black Bear Composting.

Volunteer with UVA’s student farm and help grow veggies for the community and UVA students!

UVA COMMUNITY GARDEN Located across the street from O’Hill Dining Room, the community garden is a space for students to spend time outside and learn about growing vegetables. Subscribe to the Green Dining newsletter to sign-up for social-distanced workdays.
