NOTE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTORS Under the artistic direction of Andrea Beckham and Erica Gionfriddo, Dance Repertory Theatre returns to the stage in Fortitude, a concert celebrating the enduring spirit of dance and the strength of those called to claim it. One way to define the word “fortitude” is “courage in the face of adversity.” Our program strives to empower young artists with tools by which they can fortify their personal coherence in relationship to a complex existence so that they might function meaningfully within our ever-more intricate society. Dance as a practice is uniquely situated toward problem-solving, addressing the uncomfortable and maintaining courage in the liminal spaces between absolutes. The choreographers on this program have challenged the performers to move with courage before the outcome is clear, to honor individuality alongside community and to honor both history and future as means to understand this present moment. Through our outstanding faculty choreographers and renowned guest artists, Fortitude offers communities and histories of dance that have not always been in conversation on the concert stage, championing the enduring power of bodies in motion to spark across perceived divides.

Institutional memory runs short in the university setting because of the continual entering and exiting of student bodies. Traditions help fortify us across these short generations.

Haruka Weiser’s legacy in our community continues to be one rooted in celebration of our shared enduring spirit as dancers, artists, and humans. This year, head of dance Charles O. Anderson ignites her memory as the Haruka Weiser Endowed Excellence Fund in Choreography fellow, in a work that brings the entire Dance Repertory Theatre ensemble together in a tradition of communion.

Fortitude marks the second year of an ongoing celebration of the life and art of Haruka Weiser through a new work created in her name. This annual commission brings an important dance artist to campus to create a new work of dance art in honor of Haruka. This is made possible through the Haruka Weiser Endowed Excellence Fund in Choreography, an endowment created by students, alumni and friends to honor Ms. Weiser in perpetuity.

Haruka was a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin at the time of her death in 2016. Her lasting gift to us is the world premiere you are about to see.

I listen to music and imagine patterns of bodies sweeping through vast spaces.

During the creative process, I love to explore an array of shapes and configurations of dancers that are both established and disrupted by movement. It is this method, in collaboration with the young artists, that inspires the narrative of my work. I always engage in dialogue with the dancers to create a special atmosphere during the process. The result (I hope) is a ballet with which all of the dancers can feel a deep level of connection.

A relentless rhythm demands they stay in motion. Bound by time and space, they must discover whether a breakthrough is possible alone and when they must act together. When our reflex is to conform, can reflective thought break an unproductive cycle? When the conscious confines us, can intuition unlock new spaces? And what if the processes of asserting our individuality is the same process by which we find community?

From the Choreographer Remembering Haruka… She has been gone longer than I actually knew her… but she is indelibly etched into my memory. Every time we bring back an old memory, we run the risk of changing it.

It’s more like opening a document on a computer—the old information enters a surprisingly vulnerable state when it can be edited, overwritten or even deleted. It takes a while for the memory to become strengthened anew through a process called reconsolidation. Memories aren’t just created once, but every time we remember them. This spring, Haruka Weiser would have graduated from our dance program. This piece is my humble attempt to offer her a ceremony to mark that occasion.

Idọ̀bálẹ̀ is the Yoruba concept of showing respect upon greeting and leaving. It reflects a cyclical process and reverence for life and death. I chose this title in dedication to Haruka and her classmates. We often think of showing respect to our elders, but since Haruka’s untimely passing I have been confronted with the passing of so many young people and have taken strength and inspiration from the resiliency and bravery of their peers.

CREATIVE Austin Alvarez (Costume Designer – Scar, Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys) is a second-year B.A. in Theatre and Dance major with an emphasis in costume design also pursuing a minor in Mexican American and Latino/a Studies and Educational Physiology. His design and assistant design credits include The Not Knowing, Eurydice and UTNT (UT New Theatre, 2018).

Charles O. Anderson (Choreographer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is the head of the dance program at The University of Texas at Austin. Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Anderson earned his B.A. in Choreography and Performance with a minor in African Studies from Cornell University and an M.F.A. in Dance from Temple University where he specialized in African Diasporic dance. Professionally, Anderson is the artistic director of the critically-acclaimed Charles O. Anderson Projects (formerly dance theatre X), which he founded in 2003. He has performed in the companies of Ronald K. Brown, Sean Curran, Mark Dendy and Miguel Gutierrez, among others. His work has been presented nationally and internationally and has earned recognition from numerous organizations such as the Pew Fellowship for the Arts, one of “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine and one of “12 Rising Stars in the Academy” by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine.

Andrea Beckham (Co-Artistic Director, Choreographer – Scar) is a choreographer, dancer and educator. Her choreography has been presented in North and South America, Europe and Asia. She has collaborated with John Christensen, Yacov Sharir and Heywood “Woody” McGriff in China, Israel, Scotland and Australia.

A principal dancer with the Sharir Dance Company, she also enjoyed work with Llory Wilson’s Tallulah Dance Company in Seattle, New York, as well as Jacob’s Pillow, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in New York and many others. Since 1989, she has developed new work with her own pick-up company, Andrea Beckham Collaborative Dance, including a recent appearance of Abundance in Adelaide.

Beckham teaches at The University of Texas at Austin, where she runs the Pilates-evolved Movement Laboratory and proudly received the Regents Outstanding Teaching Award.

Michael Bruner (Integrated Media Designer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Reflects/Reflex; Voices, She) is an interactive designer and developer with a focus on creating immersive experiences. He is a gradu-

ate of Texas A&M University where he focused on game design and development. He is now pursuing an M.F.A. in Design and Technology at The University of Texas at Austin. His work focuses on how emerging technology can be integrated into physical environments to create meaningful experiences.

Hsiao-Wei Chen (Costume Designer – Pulse; Voices, She) is an M.F.A. in Design and Technology candidate with a focus in costume design at The University of Texas at Austin. After receiving her B.A. in Theatre and Drama from National Taiwan University (NTU), she worked as a designer and assistant designer in theatre, dance and film in Taiwan. Chen has worked as a stage manager on a variety of productions from theatre to dance. www.hsiaoweichen.com John Christensen (Sculpture/Set Designer – Scar) is an artist working on projects for theatre and for more permanent installations in the public place—often collaborating with choreographers and other design professionals—as well as making environments for 30 theatrical productions presented worldwide and installing 19 large commissions throughout the United States.

Kirven Douthit-Boyd (Choreographer – Cascade: Urgency in the Fall) is the co-artistic director of Dance at the Center of Creative Arts (COCA) in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned his M.F.A. in Dance from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. He began his formal dance training at the Boston Arts Academy in 1998 and joined Boston Youth Moves in 1999. He has also trained on scholarship at The Boston Conservatory and The Alvin Ailey School prior to performing with Battleworks Dance Company, Ailey II and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater from 2004–2015.

Stephanie Mae Fisher (Costume Designer – Reflects/Reflex) is a second-year M.F.A. in Design and Technology candidate with a focus in costume design. Before graduate school, she worked as a stitcher, designer and shop manager for various theatre and opera companies. At UT, Fisher has designed costumes for Matawan, Mammoth: A De-extinction Love Story and two dance concerts. This summer, she will be returning to New York Stage and Film as the Costume Shop Supervisor for the second time.

Erica Gionfriddo (Choreographer – Reflects/Reflex) is a dance artist, educator

CREATIVE and somatic researcher who believes in the intelligent body each of us occupies. She is co-founder of ARCOS Dance, whose ongoing research probes the intersection of technology and humanity through rigorous interdisciplinary experimentation. Gionfriddo’s extensive experience as a GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® trainer guides her pedagogical methodology, which she brings in her capacity as lecturer in dance at the University of Texas at Austin and as a national teaching artist. Erica holds a B.F.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from Shenandoah Conservatory and is currently an M.F.A. candidate at Hollins University.

Bridget L. Moore (Choreographer – Pulse) is a native of Dallas, Texas, and the founder and artistic director of B. Moore Dance. Moore holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from The Ohio State University and a Master of Fine Arts from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. Her accomplishments as a choreographer, dancer and educator in the arts demonstrate her commitment to the dance continuum. She has received choreographic commissions from Ailey II, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Red Clay Dance Company, Bruce Wood Dance/MetDance and Urban Bush Women, to name a few.

Diamond Rector (Stage Manager) is a Houston, Texas native and a second-year B.A. in Theatre and Dance major with an emphasis in stage management at The University of Texas at Austin. She served as an assistant stage manager on MotherWitch (UTNT (UT New Theatre), 2018) and Fall For Dance (Dance Repertory Theatre, 2018).

Austin Shirley (Lighting Designer) is an M.F.A. in Design and Technology candidate with a focus in lighting design at The University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 1996 and first came to UT to study scenic rendering and lighting design. He graduated in 2001 with a B.A. in Theatre, specializing in design. He has worked for the Delfos Dance Company in Mazatlán, Mexico for the last 14 years as their American technical director and assistant lighting designer. He worked for Texas Performing

Arts as master electrician from 2010 to 2014.

His design for Texas Theatre and Dance’s The Drowsy Chaperone was nominated for the B. Iden Payne Award for Lighting Design.

Sandra Organ Solis (Choreographer – Voices, She) trained in the Royal Academy of Dancing Syllabus and became Houston Ballet’s first African-American ballerina as a soloist under Ben Stevenson. She worked with choreographers Christopher Bruce, James Kudelka and Jiri Kylian, and performed in the works of MacMillian, Balanchine, Tudor and Ashton.

Organ founded Earthen Vessels, The Sandra Organ Dance Company, employing 120 dancers over sixteen seasons and has created over 100 ballets regionally. She is presently a lecturer in Ballet Technique at The University of Texas at Austin and has taught at Ballet Austin, The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and Houston Ballet Academy, having also instructed Dance for Parkinson’s Disease and Power for Parkinson’s.

Lindsey Thurston (Costume Designer – Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a M.F.A. in Design and Technology candidate with a focus in costume design at The University of Texas at Austin. She has a varied background in costume design and costume technology and has worked as a costume crafts technician at the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Utah Festival of Opera and Musical Theatre. Thurston recently completed the apprenticeship program at the Phoenix Theatre (Phoenix, Arizona).

Raphael Xavier (Choreographer – Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys) is an award-winning artist and alumnus of the world-renowned hip-hop dance company Rennie Harris Puremovement.

A 2013 Pew Fellowship grantee, 2016 Guggenheim Fellow and 2016 United States Artist Fellow, Xavier has been a professional breaker/ dancer for the last 20 years, working in a variety of fields including music and photography.

A self-taught hip-hop dancer and breaking practitioner since 1983, Xavier continues to learn and recreate new ways to expand the vocabulary of the dance form through constant research of the culture, performance, practice and by staying present in the community.

CAST Kelsey Bacic (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a secondyear B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She graduated from Plano West Senior High School in Plano, Texas and has been dancing since the age of three. Bacic has participated in S.E.E.D. (Dance Action), Ears, Eyes + Feet and Fall For Dance (2018).

She is a B.F.A. in Dance major also pursuing a B.S. in Exercise Science. She has performed in Fall for Dance (2017), Transcendence (2018) and Dance Action’s S.E.E.D. (2018).

Hanna Bailey (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Reflects/Reflex; Voices, She) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major. She trained at iRule Dance Studio and North Harris Performing Arts. Hanna has been dancing since the age of 3 and has studied a variety of dance styles. Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to work with world-renowned choreographers including Broadway choreographer Kelli Barclay, Richard D’Alton and the American Ballet Theatre faculty. She has performed in productions of Aladdin and Coppélia.

Lizzy Blade (Rehearsal Assistant – Scar, Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, she started dance training at age 14 at Dancers E.d.g.e. She has trained in multiple genres including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and tumbling as well as numerous intensives and conventions. Blade has performed in Dance Action’s S.E.E.D. and this is her first appearance with Dance Repertory Theatre.

Lindsay Ball (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/Reflex) is a B.F.A. Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She attended Natomas Charter School Performing and Fine Arts Academy and graduated with a distinction in acting. She spent her summer and winter breaks dancing at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance where she worked closely with teachers and choreographers including Summer Lee Rhatigan, Courtney Mazeika, Alex Ketley, Christian Burns, Tom Weinberger and Bobbi Jene Smith.

Brooke Bower (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a firstyear B.F.A. in Dance major from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She trained with Dance Theater Southwest and Magnify Dance Center and was featured in ballets such as The Nutcracker, The Firebird, Dracula, Coppélia, Christmas Joy, How Love Wins, Balanchine’s Serenade, Valse Fantasie and A Midsummer’s Night Dream. She has trained at summer intensives with Alonzo King LINES, the Rock School for Dance Education, Jillana and has performed in China with Long Beach Ballet Company.

Raquel Baron (Production Assistant – Pulse, Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse, Reflects/Reflex) began dancing in Dallas, Texas at a young age and attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. As a fourth-year B.F.A. in Dance major, Baron has performed in Ears, Eyes + Feet, S.E.E.D. (Dance Action) and Dance Repertory Theatre’s Momentum, Fall For Dance and Transcendence. She has worked with choreographers Andee Scott, Coutney Mazeika, Charles O. Anderson, Chuck Wilt, Gesel Mason, Madison Hicks and Rennie Harris, among others.

Kialond Bronson-Smith (Production Assistant – Reflects/Reflex, Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys) is a B.A. in Theatre and Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She started her dance training one year ago. She has recently been seen in S.E.E.D. (Dance Action, 2018) and Matawan (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2018).

Cellise Brown (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse) is a first-year UTeach Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin.

Brown is from Katy, Texas and has participated in numerous summer intensives, including Complexations Contemporary Ballet, Boston Ballet and Joffrey Ballet. She has earned an intermediate certificate from the Royal Academy of Dance, as well as a certificate for grades one and two in Cecchetti Ballet. This is her first performance with Dance Repertory Theatre.

CAST Kennedy Cannon (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas. She has extensive dance training and has worked with various renowned choreographers including Ida Saki, Peter Chu and Juel D. Lane. During her time at UT, she has appeared in Dance Action’s S.E.E.D. Fortitude will mark her first performance with Dance Repertory Theatre.

Ivana Castañeda (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She graduated in 2017 from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She has attended the Complexions Contemporary Summer Intensive for the past three years and has an extensive background in different dance styles, including African, Latin, contemporary, ballet and flamenco. She recently performed in Proving Ground and Simon Says _____ for Dance Repertory Theatre’s Fall For Dance (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2018).

Bridget Caston (Production Assistant – Voices, She; Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Reflects/Reflex; Voices, She) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major and second-year B.B.A. in Marketing major at The University of Texas at Austin. She began training in her hometown of Fort Worth, Texas at the age of five and later studied at the Dian Clough West Dance Studio. Caston also spent extensive time training under former New York City Ballet principal dancer Jillana in Taos, New Mexico, as well as the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive Program. Her recent credits include S.E.E.D. (Dance Action) and Ears, Eyes + Feet.

Lilian Collins (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) started studying dance at the age of five under Eugene Slavin. She performed in many of Slavin’s works and was part of his pre-professional studio company. Upon his passing, Collins continued her training at Ballet Arts of Austin, appearing in original works by director Lori Benold. She is a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. This is her first year performing with Dance Repertory Theatre.

Katherine Cornell (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Pulse; Voices, She) is a second-

year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, she has an extensive background in ballet, modern, jazz and contemporary dance.

She recently performed with Dance Repertory Theatre in Transcendence and Fall For Dance (2018). Cornell plans to pursue a professional choreographic and performative career in dance upon graduating.

David Cruz (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse, Scar) is a B.F.A. in Dance and B.S.A. Biology dual major at The University of Texas at Austin. He began his dance career in 2015, receiving training from Charles O. Anderson, Sara L. Paul and Lyn C. Wiltshire.

Since then, Cruz has worked with choreographers including Sidra Bell, Ray Schwartz and Andee Scott in For Dance and Transcendence (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2018).

Gracie Davis (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has an extensive background in dance, studying at various prestigious institutions in Dallas including Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

Jodi DeAngelis (Production Assistant – Cascade: Urgency in the Fall; Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys; Voices, She) danced professionally with Ruidoso Dance Ensemble and Ballet Pensacola before coming to The University of Texas at Austin in fall 2018. She is inspired by finding the intention of movement and enjoys exploring beyond the technical structure of dance by expanding her own artistic boundaries.

Andie Duong (Production Assistant and Rehearsal Assistant – Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Dancer – Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a B.F.A. in Dance and B.A. in Urban Studies dual major at The University of Texas at Austin. She recently appeared in Fall For Dance (2018), for which she also cochoreographed the piece Simon says ______; Transcendence (2018) and multiple projects as part of The Cohen New Works Festival (2017).

Haley Fuller (Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a fourth-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She grew up in Frisco, Texas where she trained for 15 years. She recently performed with Dance Repertory Theatre in Transcen-

CAST dence and Fall For Dance (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2018) where she performed works by Rennie Harris, Andee Scott, Madison Hicks and Sidra Bell. Upon graduation in May 2019, Fuller plans to pursue a professional dance career.

Makiah Galan (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Reflects/Reflex, Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts. Growing up, he attended a community dance program called Xcape where he has been a part of many performances including Take the Stage in Emmaus, Musikfest, Sportsfest, Scottish Rite and the Sands Casino.

Georgina Garza (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Reflects/Reflex) is a third-year B.A. in Dance and computer science major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has performed in Europe with Diverse Space Dance Theatre (DSYDT) under the direction of Toni Bravo, locally with Andrea Torres Dance Company (ATDC) under the direction of Dre Torres, S.E.E.D. (Dance Action) and Dance Repertory Theatre’s Fall For Dance (2018).

Greyland Goff (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Scar) is a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, his previous dance training includes ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, tap and musical theatre. He has trained at the International Summer Dance Intensive at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has previously been seen in Fall For Dance (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2018) in works by choreographers Gregory Dolbashian, Addison Norman and Dorothy O’Shea Overbey.

Atticus Griffin (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse, Scar) is a thirdyear B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. He began his formal training at the age of 18 at Studio C Dance and the Margo Dean School of Ballet. Since then, he has focused heavily on various styles of contemporary dance. Recently, he has performed in S.E.E.D., Fall For Dance, The Watchmaker’s Song and The Nutcracker.

Allison Hamauei (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/Reflex) is a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has an extensive background in dance.

Kolina Hocevar (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) a B.F.A. in Dance major with a minor in business at The University of Texas at Austin. She has been dancing since she was three years old and has attended summer intensives at Pittsburgh Ballet, Miami City Ballet and The Jillana School.

Andreina Hurtado (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a second-year B.F.A. in Dance major. This is her second year with Dance Repertory Theatre. She began dancing at the age of five at Houston Repertoire Ballet and was trained in classical ballet. Sarah Jack (Rehearsal Assistant – Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/ Reflex) is a choreographer, teacher and performing artist located in Austin, Texas and a fourth-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. Jack recently choreographed for the 2018 OBIE Awards and co-choreographed Matawan (Texas Theatre and Dance) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Round About Players). Upcoming works will be premiered at The Cohen New Works Festival.

Matthew James (Rehearsal Assistant – Pulse, Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major pursuing a minor in arts management at The University of Texas at Austin. Coming from Fort Worth, Texas, he has previously trained in ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, hip hop and tap. He has trained for 10 years and recently performed in Dance Action’s S.E.E.D. Ginnifer Joe (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Scar, Sometimes: LifeGates & Keys) is a B.F.A. in Dance and B.S. in Public Relations double major at The University of Texas at Austin. For the past five semesters, she has performed with Dance Repertory Theatre (DRT) in works by Charles O. Mykaela Johnson (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/Reflex) is a second-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas

CAST at Austin. Johnson is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas, where she worked with numerous esteemed artists and choreographers. Her career at UT has afforded the opportunity to perform in works by Rennie Harris, Madison Hicks, Gesel Mason and Addison Norman. This will be her third mainstage show with Dance Repertory Theatre.

Kaitlyn Jones (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Reflects/Reflex; Voices, She) is a fourth-year B.F.A. in Dance major from Houston, Texas. She has been a member of Dance Repertory Theatre (DRT) since 2016.

Jones’s most recent performance was DRT’s Fall For Dance (2018). In April, Jones will be cochoreographing a dance piece during The 2019 Cohen New Works Festival. Upon graduating in May 2019, she plans to pursue a career in arts management while continuing to be involved in freelance work.

Mackenzie Lawrence (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/Reflex) is a thirdyear B.F.A. in Dance major from Austin, Texas.

She performed in works by Jenn Freeman, Andee Scott, Courtney Mazeika, Dorothy O’Shea Overbey, Erica Gionfriddo and Gesel Mason. Additionally, she has choreographed and performed in Dance Action’s S.E.E.D. and will be presenting a new work in the 2019 Cohen New Works Festival.

Christian Leal (Production Assistant – Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys, Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys) is a fourth-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin.

He started dancing in middle school while being exposed to many different hip-hop dance styles.

He has recently been seen in Transcendence (2018), Fusebox Festival (2018) and Fall For Dance (2017 and 2018). He aspires to continue his training as a teaching artist after graduation.

Tori Loper (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall; Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a second-year UTeach Dance major pursuing a minor in business at The University of Texas at Austin. She has performed in works by Gesel Mason, Gregory Dolbashian, Abby Loper and Andie Duong. She has trained with the Soul Escape Company in Dallas, Texas for the past two summers and performed in works by Justin Giles, Will Johnston and Seth

Zibalese. Last January, Loper performed Philosophize Your Figure with Soul Escape in Los Angeles and was recently seen in Dance Repertory Theatre’s Fall For Dance (2018).

Madelyn Manlove (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Pulse; Voices, She) is a secondyear B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has been dancing since the age of three in San Antonio, Texas. She has been seen in Dance Repertory Theatre’s Transcendence (2018) and Fall For Dance (2018), working with Rennie Harris, Madison Hicks and Gregory Dolbashian.

Amanda Moogerfeld (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a B.F.A. in Dance major pursuing a B.S. in Biology at The University of Texas at Austin. She has attended ballet intensives such as the Kirov Academy of Ballet and Boston Ballet. She was recently seen in the roles of “Aurora” in Sleeping Beauty and “Jasmine” in Aladdin in Savannah, Georgia. Moogerfeld aspires to join a ballet contemporary company after graduation and eventually pursue a career in medicine.

Avery Moore (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Pulse; Voices, She) is a second-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She graduated from the Houston High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where she worked with prestigious faculty as well as guest artists. Moore had been seen in Dance Repertory Theatre’s Transcendence (2018) and Fall For Dance (2018) in works by Rennie Harris, Sidra Bell, Gregory Dolbashian, Madison Hicks and Dorothy O’Shea Overbey.

Becky Nam (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Scar, Sometimes: LifeGates & Keys) is a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has performed works by Sidra Bell, Rennie Harris, Jenn Freeman, Ohad Naharin and Tom Weinberger. She has performed as part of The Cohen New Works Festival (2017), Fusebox Festival (2017), the American College Dance Association regional conference (2018) and Dance Repertory Theatre.

Briah Napier (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse, Reflects/Reflex) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. Napier is from Houston, Texas and is a graduate from the High School for the

CAST Performing and Visual Arts where she worked and trained with various choreographers and dance faculty members. This is her first performance with Dance Repertory Theatre.

Antonia Neal (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Pulse; Voices, She) began dancing at the age of three and graduated from the Las Vegas Academy in 2015. This is her third year as a member of Dance Repertory Theatre, where she has performed in Momentum (2017), Fall For Dance (2017 and 2018) and Transcendence (2018) in works by Charles O. Anderson, Lyn C. Wiltshire, Erica Gionfriddo, Rennie Harris, Adrienne Hurd and Gesel Mason.

Addison Norman (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Pulse; Voices, She) is a B.F.A. in Dance and a B.S. in Exercise Science major at The University of Texas at Austin. Norman received training from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, the Ailey School and Northwest Dance Project.

She has recently performed in Dance Repertory Theatre’s Fall For Dance (2017 and 2018) and Transcendence (2018). Norman has also choreographed for Fall For Dance (2018) and Dance Action’s S.E.E.D. (Fall 2017 and Spring 2018).

Dayna Palmer (Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a fourth-year B.F.A. in Dance and B.S. in Exercise Science double major. She plans to attend graduate school for athletic training upon graduating. Since joining Dance Repertory Theatre, she has had the privilege of working with a combination of resident and guest choreographers. Her stage credits include Fall For Dance (2017 and 2018), Transcendence (2018), Ears, Eyes + Feet (2017 and 2018) and Momentum (2017).

Kyla Patton (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall; Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Pulse; Voices, She) a second-year dual B.F.A. in Dance and B.S. in Advertising major at The University of Texas at Austin. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she started classical ballet training at age 12 and has since performed in multiple pieces including Swan Lake, Giselle, Coppélia, Cinderella as well as contemporary ballet works by Kristy Nilsson. Patton has performed pre-professionally with Northeast Atlanta Ballet and Houston Repertoire Ballet and has attended Ballet Austin, Colorado Ballet and Kansas City Ballet intensives.

Skylar Phan (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/Reflex, Pulse)

is a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has an extensive background in dance training from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where she was mentored by several professional dancers and choreographers.

Myrah Porter (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a third-year B.F.A. in Dance major pursuing a minor in health professions minor from Houston, Texas. This is her fourth production with Dance Repertory Theatre. She has previously been seen in Fall for Dance (2018), Transcendence (2018) and in other productions across the university. She has worked with various choreographers during her time at Texas Theatre and Dance.

Jesse Quezada (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys) is a fourth-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. He started his dance journey in the Houston breaking/street dance scene. In his time at UT, he has worked with choreographers including Rennie Harris, Courtney Mazeika, Ray Eliot Schwartz and Sidra Bell. Quezada has recently been seen in the 2018 Fusebox Festival as part of Charles O. Anderson’s (Re)current Unrest.

Mario Alberto Ramirez (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse, Scar) is a third-year UTeach Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. He has an extensive dance background from Danza Azteca to contemporary dance. He was recently seen in Dance Repertory Theatre’s Transcendence (2018) and has worked with choreographers Andee Scott, Jenn Freeman, Dorothy O’Shea Overbey and Charles O. Anderson, among others. After graduation, Ramirez plans to attend graduate school to become a dance educator.

Ana Samantha Rosas-Mantilla (Production Assistant – Scar; Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Voices, She) is a second-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has trained in various forms of dance and has an extensive background of ballet training with El Paso Ballet Theatre. Brooke Shore (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Reflects/Reflex; Voices, She) is a second-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. Before coming to Texas, she studied ballet and modern dance with mentors and Paul Taylor principal dancers, Heather Berest and Orion Duckstein. A native New Yorker, Shore also performed for four years as a principal dancer with the Lynch Ballet Company and spent her summers training with Complexions, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Joffrey Ballet School and with NYCDA as a Teen Outstanding Dancer.

Carolina Azteca Sirias (Rehearsal Assistant – Sometimes: Life-Gates & Keys, Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a third-year B.F.A. Dance and B.S. Applied Movement Science dual major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has recently performed in Transcendence and Fall for Dance (Dance Repertory Theatre, 2018). She also studied in New York City at the Dance Education Laboratory Summer Institute and at the Sidra Bell Dance New York MODULE. She is currently choreographing and leading two works as part of The Cohen New Works Festival in April 2019.

Emma Steelman (Rehearsal Assistant – Voices, She; Dancer – Idọ̀bálẹ̀) is a second-year UTeach Dance major. She began training in ballet at the age of seven at Ballet of San Antonio. Most recently, she has studied and performed with artists Daria Neidre and Sidra Bell. She is performing with Dance Repertory Theatre for the first time.

Ashley Stone (Cascade: Urgency in the Fall, Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/Reflex) is a first-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. A Houston native, Stone studied ballet from The Royal Academy of Dance syllabus.

She has attended several summer intensives, including American Ballet Theatre and Joffrey Ballet Academy. She has performed a number of classical ballet variations from

Coppélia, Don Quixote and The Nutcracker.

This is her first performance with Dance Repertory Theatre.

Azari Sumbler (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Reflects/Reflex) is a B.A. in Theatre and Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. He started dancing his senior year in high school, but has grown tremendously. He has recently appeared as a member of the movement ensemble in Matawan (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2018).

Khorii Tinson (Idọ̀bálẹ̀, Pulse, Scar) is a thirdyear B.F.A. in Dance major from Washington.

She has worked with renowned choreographers Jenn Freeman, Gregory Dolbashian, Rennie Harris and Courtney Mazeika. She recently performed in Charles O. Anderson’s (Re)current Unrest for Fusebox Festival (2018). Upon graduation in May of 2020, she plans to move to the West Coast and begin training to join a contemporary company.

Emily Tolson (Idọ̀bálẹ̀; Pulse; Voices, She) is a third-year B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin. She has recently been seen in Dance Repertory Theatre’s Fall For Dance (2018) and Transcendence (2018).
