It’s always a joy to sit at my desk and hear the sounds of the school all around me.

It might be the voices of our students, a concert practice, or a group studying in the hallway. All are reminders of the life of our school—a symphony of UTS activity.

Our students flock to UTS from across the Greater Toronto Area. Intellectually curious, creative, eager to take initiative, and supportive of one another, they come together to achieve remarkable things.

ACADEMICS UTS is renowned for its rigorous and enriched curriculum, which provides additional breadth and depth of learning. Students here graduate with more than 35 credits, which opens up wider opportunities for university admissions. OUTSTANDING Thanks to the hard work and passion of our students, parents, staff, volunteers, and donors, we had many incredible accomplishments last year.

Here are just a few of them:

Raymond, Andrew, and Jason were selected for Team Canada at the International Young Physicists’ Tournament in Poland.

Pau won bronze and silver medals and Sam won silver and gold medals at OFSAA Track and Field.

UTS placed 1st in the Ontario Envirothon for the sixth year.

UTS was named the national champion in both the Fryer and Galois Math competitions.

Students created a tutoring initiative to support newcomers and refugees in partnership with the Afghan Women’s Organization.

The Girls Senior Volleyball team won silver at OFSAA.

XXIV A group of UTS students travelled to Japan as part of the Kakehashi (“Bridge”) Project and presented their experience to Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito.

At the Regional ECOO Computer Programming Contest, the UTS all-girls team placed 1st overall with the other UTS teams placing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

For the 24th consecutive year, UTS captured 1st place at the Ontario Classics Conference.

David and Howard became the became the 15th and 14th UTS students to be selected to represent Canada at the International Math Olympiad.

Jerry was chosen to represent Canada at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in Hungary.

Max placed 4th and Andrei was named the 2019 World Champion at the World Individual Debate and Public Speaking Championships.

Anna was selected to join Team Canada at the European Girls Math Olympiad, which went on to earn two bronze medals and two honourable mentions.

The UTS Badminton teams won the SSAF Championship banner and were named the TDCAA League Champions.

UTS claimed the National History Bee and Bowl Championship for the fourth time.

Eric placed second, and Raya and Maria placed 1st in their categories at the Toronto Universities’ French Contest.

The UTS team won the Ontario Justice Education Network City of Toronto Mock Trial Championship.

Dr. Harkison was recognized as the most influential instructor of Anoop Manjuranth ’15, who won the prestigious J.E. Wallace Sterling Award for Scholastic Achievement at Stanford University.

Three UTS students earned Best Lawyer awards at the Superior Court of Justive Experiential Mock Trial.

Students hosted and organized the second Girls in Tech Conference, teaching girls from across the city about programming with speakers from Google, IBM, and more.

Sophie and Julie earned Best Delegate and Zahra received an Honourable Mention at the Rysensteen Model UN in Copenhagen.

Jessica, Annaliese, and Oliver took 1st place in three different categories at the Ontario High School German Contest.

Eric and David were selected for Team Canada at the International Physics Olympiad.

Our dedicated and qualified staff of three counsellors, a student success teacher, and a social worker, along with a strong focus on student wellness, provide full-student support and in-school mentorship. A dedicated full-time administrator oversees student support and innovation, and a vibrant alumni and school community helps forge mentoring relationships to give UTS students a boost in their next step after graduating.

Partnerships

Local and global partnerships, including the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, Medicine by Design, Creative Destruction Lab, OISE, Rotman School of Management, and Factor Inwentash School Of Social Work, and schools in Beijing, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Shanghai, and Udine ensure that UTS students have access to exciting opportunities.

CO-CURRICULAR A UTS education means an engaging experience in the classroom and far beyond.

UTS is also the first secondary school in Canada to offer a Co-Curricular Record, an official university-style transcript validating participation in co-curricular activites.
