Emily Densmore is a singing actress from Austin, currently based in San Antonio. gorgeous, powerful voice,” (Big Island Music) she is passionate about breathing life into diverse repertoire and sharing in the creation of accessible music experiences. As a winner of the 2024/ 25 UTSA Concerto and Aria Competition, Emily will make an appearance with the UTSA Orchestra under the direction of Troy Peters in April 2025. Previous roles include Charlotte in Women on the Line (premiere), Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, La Princesa in Montsalvatge’s El gato con Botas, Emily in Soul of Word (premiere), and Diana in Offenbach’s Orpheus and Eurydice Emily graduates in May with her master’s in vocal performance with a concentration in arts nonprofit management from the School of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she studies with Jourdan Laine Howell. She earned her bachelor’s in vocal performance with a minor in Italian studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied with Cynthia Morrow.

Violinist Josette Garcia is a sophomore at UTSA and is currently in her third semester pursuing a degree in Music Performance under the guidance of Dr. Nicole Cherry. A winner of the 2024/25 UTSA Concerto and Aria Competition, she is an active member in both the UTSA Orchestra and Mariachi Los Paisanos. Josette credits her love for music to her father, whose expressive playing on jazz flute and drums left a lasting impression on her from a young age. When she’s not making music, she enjoys oil painting and spending quality time with her friends and family.

Conductor Troy Peters is Director of the UTSA Orchestra and Music Director of Youth Orchestras of San Antonio. Formerly Resident Conductor of the San Antonio Symphony, he has guest conducted many orchestras, including the Oregon Symphony, San Antonio Philharmonic, West Virginia Symphony, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, and Round Rock Symphony. Musical America featured him named him one of their 2016 professionals of the year. He was previously Music Director of the Vermont Youth Orchestra and Montpelier Chamber Orchestra and conducted orchestras at Texas State University and Middlebury College. He has often worked with rock musicians, including Blind Pilot, Buttercup, Jon Anderson (of the band Yes), and Trey Anastasio (of the band Phish), with whom he recorded two albums on Elektra Records.

Among the soloists with whom Peters has collaborated are Branford Marsalis, Midori, Jaime Laredo, Edgar Meyer, Time for Three, and Richard Stoltzman. His work has been covered by CBS Sunday Morning, National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition, and The New Yorker Peters is also active as a composer, where his hono rs include the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and grants from Meet the Composer and the Rockefeller Foundation. He holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music and the University of Pennsylvania, where his primary compositional mentors were Ned Rorem and George Crumb.

• The UTSA Clarinet Choir has been invited to perform at the International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest this July

• ClarinetFest, the world’s largest clarinet conference, unites performers, educators, and industry professionals. UTSA Clarinet Choir will premiere works by San Antonio composers Clarisa De la Garza and Dr. Tyler M. Webster on July 13th in Fort Worth, TX.

• Premiering two new works at this international conference is a major achievement. Students will gain invaluable artistic growth, networking opportunities, and exposure to world-class performances.
