Students, faculty, and staff, please join us as we welcome Chris Hetner of the Securities and Exchange Commission to UTSA. Learn what it takes to make the leap from academia to the private industry where students will be expected to effectively execute their knowledge in a rapid paced environment. He will discuss the challenges of applying cybersecurity to a globally complex organization, and the application of a cybersecurity program using a core principal such as governance, risk management, operations and business alignment. He will also discuss the various types of cybersecurity programs that exist across the market.
• Monday, January 9, 2017 • 10:00-11:30 AM • JPL Assembly Room (JPL 4.04.22) Chris Hetner is the current Cybersecurity Lead for the Technology Control Program within the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE). He was named the SEC Senior Advisor on Cybersecurity Policy in June 2016. He is responsible for coordinating efforts across the agency to address cybersecurity policy, engaging with external stakeholders, and further enhance the SEC’s mechanisms for assessing broad-based market risk. He worked for Ernst and Young (EY) and was the CISO at GE Capital. Chris holds industry-leading certifications including the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), NSA INFOSEC (National Security Agency Information Security) Assessment Certification and CISM (Certified Information Security Manager). He earned a M.S. in Information Assurance from Norwich University and a B.S in Security Management from The City University of New York’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
