所長挨拶 ／ Scope

コロナ禍により、私達の生活は一変し、強力なウイルスに対する科学や技術の無力さを痛感しました。同 時に、テレワークやリモート講義などを通じて、デジタル・トランスフォーメーション（DX）の重要性や 将来性を身近に認識するようになりました。技術だけでは解決できない問題もあるものの、複雑化、多様化 を続ける現代社会が抱える問題を解決するために、工学に期待される役割は益々大きくなってまいりました。 東京大学生産技術研究所は、日本で最大規模の大学附置研究所です。学術的な真理を探求する研究・教育 姿勢を基本としつつ、伝統的な特徴である垣根のない分野横断型の研究、さらには、実践的な産学連携や国 際連携、社会実装を目指した実学的な研究など、幅広く研究教育活動を展開しております。 2019年には設立70周年を迎え、この間、多くの優れた研究成果を創出するとともに、多くの優秀な人材 を輩出してきました。 本所は、工学のほぼすべての領域を包含する総合工学研究所であり、5つの研究部門から構成されています。 教授・准教授・講師がそれぞれ主宰する約120の研究室を擁し、約240名の教員と約160名の職員、約900 名の大学院学生・ポスドクの総勢1,300名以上が研究教育活動に従事しています。これらの構成員が一体と なって、優れた研究成果を創出するとともに、才能豊かな人材の育成に取り組んでいます。 さらに、本所には複数の研究部門を跨る２つの附属研究センターと10の所内センターおよび国際的な共同 研究を展開する国際連携研究センターが設置されています。各研究室は、専門分野の独創的な研究の推進に 加えて、センターなどの分野横断型の組織を活用した分野融合あるいは国際的な活動を組織的に展開してい ます。 2017年には、附属千葉実験所が本所発祥の地である西千葉地区から柏キャンパスに機能移転し、2020年 から大規模実験高度解析推進基盤として新たに活動しています。また、2017年には、価値創造デザイン推 進基盤という、これまでになかった全く新しい施設も活動を開始しました。 本所は設立当初から、工学としての学術研究の意義は社会実装の実現にあることを強く意識し、専門分野 の深耕と垣根を超えた協働を通して、新たな学問分野を創出するだけではなく、実社会での課題解決に貢献 できる技術の開発と展開を実践してきました。また、産業界において技術開発と普及の実務を担う人材の育 成も使命としてきました。本所設立以来のこの精神と使命感は脈々として継承され、産学連携を標榜する組 織の先駆けとして、工学に関わる諸課題に実践的に取り組んでおります。 このような実績と積極的な取り組み姿勢は、“生研（SEIKEN）”の名と共に広く認識されています。今後も 私たちは、大学の研究機関として学術的真実を追求しつつ、革新を通じて新たな価値の創造に貢献し、実社 会への実装を見据えて、人文科学と工学を統合する学際的なアプローチを追求する新しいSEIKENスタイル の構築を模索し、 「もしかする未来の研究所」（p.3参照）として活動していきます。 国内最大ながらも、組織としての強い一体感を維持している本所は、機動力と総合力を生かし、工学分野 における世界最高レベルの研究所として、研究と教育を通じて、これからも社会貢献を果たして行くものと 信じております。 所長

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed our lives, making us realize the limits of science and technology against formidable viruses. At the same time, through remote work and online lectures, we have become more aware of the importance and the future potential of digital transformation (DX). Many issues cannot be solved by technology alone.

However, engineering is expected to play an increasingly important role in meeting the challenges of modern society, which has become ever more complicated and diversified.

The Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) at the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) is the largest university-affiliated research institute in Japan. With a commitment to pursuing academic truth, the UTokyo-IIS carries out a wide range of research and educational activities, such as cross-disciplinary research that transcends academic boundaries — which is a traditional feature of the UTokyo-IIS — as well as practical industry–academic collaboration, international collaboration, and hands-on research aimed at social implementation.

In 2019, we celebrated our 70th anniversary. During the past 70 years, there have been significant research accomplishments and we have succeeded in producing many outstanding members of society.

The UTokyo-IIS is a comprehensive engineering research institute that covers almost all fields of engineering, consisting of five research divisions. It has approximately 120 laboratories overseen by professors, associate professors, and lecturers.

More than 1,300 personnel, comprising approximately 240 faculty members, 160 support members, and 900 graduate students and postdocs participate in research and educational activities that are responsible for producing excellent research outcomes and fostering outstanding talent.

Furthermore, there are 2 UTokyo IIS research centers that span multiple research departments, 10 IIS research centers, and one international collaborative research center that pursues international joint research. In addition to promoting original research in specialized fields, each laboratory systematically engages in interdisciplinary or international activities by using organizations such as the cross-disciplinary research centers.

In 2017, the Chiba Experiment Station was relocated from its original site in Nishi-Chiba to the Kashiwa Campus, and since 2020, the facility is operating as a Large-Scale Experiment and Advanced-Analysis Platform (LEAP). In addition, a completely new facility called the “Design-Led X Platform,” the first of its kind, has also begun operations in 2017.

Since the foundation of the UTokyo-IIS, we have been acutely aware that the significance of academic research in engineering lies in its real-world implementation. Not only have we created new academic fields through enhanced specialization and collaboration across disciplines, but we have also developed and deployed technologies that can contribute to solving problems in the real world. In addition, we have made it our mission to develop individuals who will shoulder the responsibility of developing and disseminating technology in the industrial world.

The spirit and the sense of mission of the UTokyo-IIS since its establishment still live on, and we tackle various engineeringrelated issues in a practical manner as a pioneering organization advocating industry–academic collaboration.

Such achievements and such a proactive stance are widely recognized, along with the name SEIKEN (short name for IIS in Japanese). We seek to create a new “SEIKEN style” as we continue to pursue academic truth as a university research institute, contribute to the creation of new value through innovation, and aim for a multidisciplinary approach integrating humanities and sciences for implementation in the real world. We seek to create a new “SEIKEN style” and work as an “Institute for a Possible Future” (see p.3), as we continue to pursue academic truth.

Although the UTokyo-IIS is the largest university research institute in Japan, it maintains a strong sense of unity as an organization. Using its agility and comprehensive capabilities, the UTokyo-IIS will continue to fulfill its role as one of the world’s top research institutes in the field of engineering. We believe that we will continue to make great contributions to society through research and education.

本所は100を超える研究室が工学の幅広い分野をカバーし、 互いに有機的に連携しながら研究を進めています。学問の知 を深め、究めるとともに、産業界、そして社会とのつながり も大切に考え、全世界の将来の発展に貢献すべく努力してい ます。本所のスローガン「もしかする未来の研究所」は、日々 の発見を重ねて、新たな世界を広げることを目指す私たちの 取り組みと決意を表しています。 「もしかする未来」は生研の個々の研究の代名詞でもあります。 研究の向こうの未来を思い描くことで、難解な研究をより広 く多くの方に知っていただき、社会と緊密なつながりを築く きっかけにしたいと考えています。

IIS, consisting of more than 100 laboratories, covers a broad research area of engineering and conducts research in the form of cross-disciplinary collaboration. Deepening academic knowledge, we are pushing forward to contribute to the future development of the world, in connection with the industry and society. IIS’s slogan, 'Institute for a Possible Future', represents our enthusiastic attitude and firm resolution to construct a new world based on continuous discoveries.

The term 'possible future' is synonymous with individual research conducted at IIS. By envisioning a future beyond research, we hope to make difficult research more widely accessible to the public and provide an opportunity to build closer ties with society.

生 研の概要 ／ I I S S u m m a r y 本所は、第二工学部（1942年開学）を母体に、「技術の実際 問題を取り上げ、各専門知識を総合的に研究して実用化する」 ことを使命として1949年に発足しました。以来、ものづくり・ ことづくりなど、｢創る｣ ことにかかわる学術である Industrial Science の開拓とその教育を担う、世界でもユニークな教育 研究組織として発展してきました。現在、教授・准教授・講 師がそれぞれ主宰する約120の研究室を擁し、約240名の教 員、約160名の職員、約900名の大学院学生等の総勢1,300 名以上が、5研究部門、1客員部門、5寄付研究部門、6社会 連携研究部門、大規模実験高度解析推進基盤、価値創造デザ イン推進基盤、2研究センター、1国際連携研究センター、 10所内センターにおいて教育研究活動を展開し、その活動域 は、地球規模というマクロの世界から量子レベルのナノの世 界にまで幅広く分布し、工学のほぼ全域をカバーしています。 本所は、世界最先端の研究成果を生み出して学術の発展に寄 与しているだけでなく、新産業創出や、地球規模での課題の 解決に様々な社会貢献をしてきた産学連携・社会連携のパイ オニアでもあります。また、フランス・リール、タイ・パトゥ ンタニなど5箇所の海外研究拠点・分室を通じて世界の様々 な研究機関と長期的継続的な研究連携も進めています。この ような多岐にわたる本所の活動は、フラットな組織構造と、 自由闊達を尊ぶ組織文化によって支えられています。

Based on the Second Faculty of Engineering (opened in 1942), IIS was established in 1949 with a mission to "address the actual challenges in technology and to conduct comprehensive research and practical application of specialized knowledge". Since then, IIS has developed as a unique educational and research organization in the world, pioneering and educating in the discipline of Industrial Science, which is the science of "creation". IIS currently has about 120 laboratories headed by professors, associate professors, and lecturers. With about 240 faculty members, 160 staff members, and 900 graduate students, there are more than 1,300 people in total. The educational and research activities are conducted in and supported by five research departments, one guest chair, five corporate sponsored research programs, six social cooperation programs, two UTokyo IIS research centers, one International collaborative research center, ten IIS research centers, and two research platforms. The scope of IIS activities ranges from the macro world of the global scale to the nano world of the quantum level, covering almost all areas of engineering. IIS not only contributes to academic development by producing cuttingedge research results, but it is also a pioneer in industry-academia collaboration and social engagement, contributing to the creation of new industries and the resolution of global issues. The Institute also promotes long-term and continuous research collaboration with various research institutions around the world through its five overseas offices, including in Lille, France and Patumthani, Thailand. These wide-ranging activities are made possible by the Institute's flat organizational structure and an organizational culture that respects freedom and open-mindedness.

組織 ／ Organization 東京大学は現在、15大学院、10学部、11附置研究所、 全学センター等により構成されていますが、この中で 生産技術研究所は最大規模の附置研究所として1949 年5月31日に設置され、現在、５研究部門、１客員部門、 5寄付研究部門、6社会連携研究部門、13研究センター （2附属研究センター、10所内センター、1国際連携 研究センター） 、２推進基盤、共通施設、事務部各チー ム等により構成されています。 本所の教員は各専門分野で研究活動を進めるととも に、大学院においては工学系または理学系研究科等の 各専攻課程に分属して、大学院学生を対象とした講義・ 実験・演習・研究会等を担当し、修士および博士論文 のための研究指導に従事しています。 本所は５研究部門制を採用しており、基本的にすべて の研究室は各部門に所属しており、そこで進められた 研究の成果を基礎として、複数の分野の研究者が密接 な協力体制を組むことにより、グループ研究を行って います。特に戦略的に重要と考えられるプロジェクト 研究では、「研究センター」が組織され、そこを中心 に研究が実施されています。共通施設や事務部各チー ムはこの研究体制を支えています。

The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) currently comprises 10 faculties,11 institutes,15 graduate schools,and a number of shared facilities. Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) is the largest of these institutes; currently,IIS comprises five research departments,one guest chair, five corporate sponsored research programs,six social cooperation programs,two UTokyo IIS research centers, ten IIS research centers,one international collaborative research center,two research platforms,common facilities,and administrative offices. In addition to pursuing research in their respective fields,the faculty members of IIS play an active role in the graduate school by conducting courses,experiments,exercises,and research meetings,as well as supervising graduate students for their master’s and doctoral theses in the divisions of engineering and science.

IIS has been managing five research departments in which fundamental research activities are conducted in the individual research laboratories,and thereafter, on the basis of the results of these activities,collaborative research,extensive research,general research, and project research activities are promoted with the close cooperation of researchers from different disciplines. In particular,project research activities are conducted at research centers,as is the case with research strategy facilities,and the entire research organization is supported by the common facilities and administrative offices.

研究活動 ／ Research Activity 教授、准教授、あるいは講師が主宰する約120の教員・ 研究室が、基礎から応用まで広範な工学分野において研 究活動を展開しています。研究活動は個々の研究者の自 由な発想による独創的研究と研究成果の社会への還元の 両者からなり、旧来の分野に捉われない分野横断型工学 の研究教育を行うことを活動の柱としています。

At IIS, extensive research ranging from basic to applied in a wide variety of engineering fields is conducted across approximately 120 laboratories led by professors, associate professors, and lecturers. Research activities include both innovative research based on the original ideas of researchers and the dissemination of the obtained results throughout the society.

研究室制度 ／ Laboratory System 教授、准教授、あるいは講師が主宰する研究室を基礎単位とし、 各自の判断によってテーマを選び、研究を遂行しています。 このような研究室制度は独創的な研究を生み出し、育て上げ るのに重要な役割を果たしています。さらに、若手研究者が 独立して主宰する研究室にも研究リソースを平等に配分する ことにより、若手研究者の育成・支援を進めています。 Research in IIS is conducted by each laboratory as a basic unit.

This laboratory system plays an important role in the promotion and development of creative research. In addition, the laboratory system contributes to development and support of young researchers by providing research resources equally to laboratories individually directed by them.

研究の組織化 ／ Organizing Research Activities 複数の研究室が自発的に協力しあって研究を進めるグループ 研究が盛んに行われています。専門分野の近い研究者間のリ サーチ・ユニットから、あらかじめ設定された研究目的・計 画に従い異なる分野の研究者をも統合して行う大型プロジェ クト研究まで、様々な形で研究が進められています。これら のグループ研究が結実し、組織化されたものが研究センター や連携研究センターです。 また、大きな研究プロジェクトに対しては生産技術研究所認 定プロジェクトとして、本所がサポートするシステムを有し ています。 Group Research, in which multiple laboratories work together voluntarily, is actively organized in IIS. These studies are conducted on various levels - from Research Unit comprising researchers in similar fields to large-scale projects involving researchers from different fields. The flexible organization of the research groups facilitates faster and more dynamic expansion and development of research, which may lead to form research centers and/or collaborative research centers.

Creation of new technology is IIS’ fundamental principle, with two driving forces: basic research that aims for creation of intellectual value and systematization of scientific scholarship on one hand, and applied research aiming to contribute to the society and industry by making use of latest and comprehensive approach on the other. 大学院・他部局・他機関との協力 ／ Cooperation with Graduate Schools, Other Departments and Organizations 学内の工学系研究科、理学系研究科、総合文化研究科、新領 域創成科学研究科、情報理工学系研究科、情報学環／学際情 報学府と関連する学部、さらに同じ駒場IIキャンパスに拠点を 置く先端科学技術研究センター、柏キャンパスでは大気海洋 研究所などと連携しています。さらに、国内外の他機関とも 多方面で協力をしています。例えば国内では、東京都市大学 との学術連携、国立情報学研究所との学術協力協定を結んで います。海外でも、フランス国立科学研究センター（CNRS） との集積化マイクロメカトロニクスシステムラボラトリー （LIMMS）の他、多くの研究協定を結んでいます。 IIS cooperates with UTokyo’s Graduate Schools including Engineering, Science, Arts and Sciences, Frontier Science, Information Science and Technology, Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, and related Undergraduate Schools, and has a strong link with Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) located in the Komaba II campus and Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute (AORI) in the Kashiwa campus. Cooperative activities are conducted at IIS together with other domestic and overseas organizations, including Tokyo City University, National Institute of Informatics, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in France, and so forth.

研究資金 ／ Research Funds 研究費は、文部科学省から配分されている運営費交付金、科 学研究費助成事業をはじめとする競争的研究費、および産業 界からの受託・共同研究費や寄付金で賄われています。これ らの研究費の一定部分を研究所全体の共有とし、研究所内の 審査や所長裁量を通して、将来の発展が期待される萌芽的研 究等に配分する独自のシステムを採っています。 The research budget of IIS is covered by the Operational Expenses Grants provided by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and various competitive research funds including Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, collaborative and commissioned research projects with the private sector, and endowments from industry. A good portion of these funds is distributed to early-stage but promising research activities based on IIS internal competition and the discretion of the Director General of IIS.

リサーチ・マネジメント・オフィス ／ Research Management Office (RMO) リサーチ・マネジメント・オフィス（RMO）は、本所の研究・ 運営に関する企画立案・連絡調整等を円滑に行うことを目的 として、本所独自の組織として自助努力により学内外に先駆 けて2004年4月に設立されました。RMOでは、研究戦略の 策定、外部資金の獲得、産官学連携活動等の教育研究に不可 欠な活動に対して教員を支援すると同時に、評価・広報、知 的財産戦略、国際連携の推進等の運営に関して研究部と事務 部との連絡調整を図っています。 RMO supports the education and research activities of the faculty, such as planning research strategies, procuring external funds, and promoting government-industry- academia collaborations. RMO also acts as a coordinator between the faculty and administrators for activity evaluations, education and research publicity, intellectual property strategy, promoting international cooperation, etc.

国際・産学連携室 ／ Office of International and Corporate Relations (ICR) 本所の国際学術連携と産官学連携活動の積極的な推進を目的 として、2019年4月に設立されました。国際連携や交流、国 内外の共同研究、受託研究、知的財産戦略等の活動について、 産学官界との連絡調整や企画・運営に携わり、事務部と協力 して教員を支援します。 Established in April 2019, ICR aims to actively promote international academic collaboration as well as government-industry-academia collaboration. It supports international cooperation activities, collaborative and commissioned research projects, intellectual property strategy, etc. by acting as a coordinator between IIS and industries, academia and government authorities and engaging in planning and operations.

学内連携研究機構 ／ Integrated Research Systems 2016年4月より、既存の組織の枠を超えた学の融合によ る新たな学問分野の創造を促進するため、複数の部局等 が一定期間連携して研究を行う組織（連携研究機構）の 設置が可能となりました。 本所の教員も、連携研究機構の設立や、各機構のメンバー として携わり、研究活動を進めています。

Multiple faculties, graduate schools or institutes can set up Integrated Research Systems, which promote the creation of new academic fields through cross-disciplinary approach that transcends the boundaries of existing organizations. IIS faculty members contribute to the university’s research community by establishing Integrated Research Systems or by participating in such systems.

本所主幹の連携研究機構 ／ Integrated Research Systems Led by IIS ・ワンヘルス・ワンワールド連携研究機構 ／ One Health, One World Collaboration Research Organization 本機構は、2004年のマンハッタン宣言による「One World, One Health」の考え方に基づいて、学内の7部局が連携して 2021年より活動を開始しました。具体的には、ヒトと動物の 健康とそれらを取り巻く地球環境を一つの学問領域として統 括的に科学する新たな学術研究拠点を形成すること、アジア における当該研究の拠点として関連する情報の集約や発信を すること、当該研究分野にて国内外で活躍する人材を育成す ること、を目指しています。 Based on the concept of “One World, One Health” as stated in the Manhattan Declaration of 2004, one health and one world research center was launched in 2021 as a collaborative effort among seven departments within the university. Specifically, we aim to form a new academic research center that integrates the science of human and animal health and the global environment surrounding them as a single academic discipline, to consolidate and disseminate relevant information as a center for this research in Asia, and to foster human resources who will play an active role in this research field in Japan and overseas.

・価値創造デザイン人材育成研究機構 ／ Design-Led X Pedagogical Research Initiative 現代文明が複雑さを増す中で、科学力と文化力を背景に、人 間的な視点にたって新たな価値を創造する、制度、システム、 製品、サービスなどのデザインができる人材が求められてい ます。本機構は、本郷、柏、駒場という３キャンパスに所在す る、文理にわたる多様な分野を包含する研究科・研究所等が 参画した横断的な体制と、重厚・多様な環境により、人材育 成メソドロジーの研究・開発→実践試行→フィードバックと いうプロセスを繰り返しながら、価値創造デザイン人材を育 成するためのメソドロジーを構築することを目指しています。 In the complicated social/technological environment, graduates of the universities are expected to able to deploy human-centric design thinking to something (e.g. product, service) by integrating knowledge on scientific and the humanities. The initiative aims to develop the methodology to enhance the capacity of design thinking through iterative educational processes including workshop and prototyping. The initiative is facilitated by an interdisciplinary team from faculties and institutes located in three major campuses of UTokyo; Hongo, Komaba, and Kashiwa.

We engage in the cross disciplinary research on the improvement of the Quality of Life: the mental, physical and cultural effects, addressing the problems in the society with aging and declining population which our country will face earlier than other developed countries by applying the results of international collaborative research in the Micro-nano interdisciplinary fields such as Nanobiology, μTAS, Silicon Neurons, IoT, and Energy Harvester, etc.

We established LIMMS KIKO: “Laboratories for International Research on Multi-disciplinary Micro Systems” based on LIMMS/ CNRS-IIS IRL 2820, which had been managed by IIS for 27 years as Japan-France collaborative research center with CNRS, in order to transcend departmental boundaries and comprehensively bring in the intellectual creativities of UTokyo.

日本のロケット開発黎明期に、糸川 英夫 元教授を中心に本所 が日本各地で実施したロケット開発の足跡とその功績を称え る記念碑を貴重な歴史遺産と捉えて、ゆかりのある自治体と 連携して発足したコンソーシアムです。科学技術を活用して 夢と活力のある社会を形成することを目的としており、今後、 この趣旨に賛同する自治体や研究機関との連携の輪を広げ、 魅力的なまちづくりの活動を全国に拡大していくことを目指 します。

IIS aims for close collaboration with local governments and regions through initiatives such as the Inter-Regional Network for Sustainable Coexistence with Nature, which was launched in 2019 as a project to commemorate the 70th anniversary of its establishment. 科学自然都市協創連合一員としての地域連携の展開／ Development of Regional Cooperation

科学自然都市協創連合の一員として、加盟団体とともに、ま ちづくりにかかわる話題・課題を発掘し、それらをテーマに 講演会やワークショップを企画・開催しています。 As a member of the Inter-Regional Network for Sustainable Coexistence with Nature, we are discovering noticeable topics and challenging issues related to community development together with member organizations. Based on those themes, we are holding lectures or workshops.

Around Japan there are several monuments honoring the IIS achievements in rocket development led by Professor Hideo Itokawa, at the dawn of rocket science in Japan. Considering them as valuable historical heritage, we have established a consortium with local governments connecting these heritage sites. Our purpose is to create a society with dreams and vitality, by utilizing science and technology. We are striving to extend the circle of cooperation among regions and research organizations which share the same spirit, and to expand nationwide the activities for attractive community development.

地域未来社会連携研究機構への参画 ／ Collaborative Research Organization for Future Regional Society 2018年4月1日に設置された本機構は、地域の課題解決に関 わる本学の部局が連携し、統合したプラットフォームを構築 することで、 「研究」 「地域連携」「人材育成・交流」の3局面 で相乗効果を発揮することを目的としています。本所は2019 年度から11番目の部局として参画しました。コンソーシアム 設立をはじめとした本所の取り組みを通じて、活動領域を拡 げていきます。

The Organization is involved in solving regional problems and aim to collaborate to establish an integrated platform to enhance cooperation in research, regional collaboration, and personnel development.

東京大学 生産技術研究所 川添研究室 加太分室 ／ Satellite Office of Kawazoe Laboratory in Kada 川添研究室では、高齢化や空き家問題などの現代的社会課題 を有する和歌山市加太を研究対象地とし、2014年から地元と 連携しながら建築形式や町並みに関する研究活動を行ってい ます。本所と和歌山市の正式な連携協定締結を受け、加太地 区の古い漁師の蔵に耐震補強などを施し、2018年6月、加太 分室 “地域ラボ” が完成しました。新たな学術知見の獲得に繋 がるだけでなく、大学が地域に拠点をおき活動する新たな取 り組みとして、地域ラボの今後の展開には、地元から大きな 期待が寄せられています。 The Kawazoe laboratory has conducted research activities on architectural forms and landscapes in cooperation with local residents focusing on the Kada district of Wakayama City since 2014 which has serious social problems such as aged society or abandoned houses. Following the signing of an official partnership agreement between IIS and Wakayama City, Kawazoe Lab provided earthquake-resistant reinforcement to the old cultural fisherman’s warehouse and renovated it into the satellite laboratory in June, 2018. In this lab, researcher, local people and government collaborate to revitalize Kada area. In addition, this laboratory plays a role as a bridge between the academic and the local, and is expected to find new perspectives in each field of research.

東京大学 生産技術研究所 林（憲）研究室 蓼科ラボ ／ Satellite Office of Hayashi Laboratory in Tateshina 林（憲）研究室では、蓼科高原別荘地を研究対象地に、滞在 頻度や世代の違いによる別荘地での暮らし方の差異や、動植 物との関わりなどを明らかにした上で、次世代の地方居住の 形を探究するべく、2022年4月から、同地にサテライトラボ を設置しています。コロナ禍により浸透したリモートワーク や、居住地を固定しないライフスタイルに注目が集まるなか、 別荘地に設置したラボで、実際に生活しながらのレジデント 型の研究を進めています。デジタル技術を活用して大都市と 地方との連携を強めながら、地方居住の価値を発掘し、定期 的に研究会などを実施、現地企業・市民との共有も、行って います。 In April 2022, the Hayashi Laboratory set up a satellite laboratory in PRIVATE COTTAGE IN TATESHINA in order to utilize the area as a research target. The aim of the research is to explore the form of rural living for the next generation by clarifying several aspects, such as the dependences of the differences in frequency of stay or generation on peoples’ way of living in the villa areas, and peoples’ relationship with animals and plants in those areas. Considering the recent situation, such as the spread of remote work due to the COVID-19 crisis or increase of the interest in lifestyles that do not have a fixed place of residence, they are conducting resident-type research by actually living in a the satellite laboratory. While strengthening cooperation between large cities and rural areas by utilizing digital technology, they are discovering the value of the life in rural areas, regularly holding study groups, etc., and sharing them with local companies and citizens.

社会連携・史料室 ／ Office of Social Cooperation and Archives 社会連携・史料室は、本所の地域連携の推進を図るため、二 工歴史資料室を改組して、2021年4月に設立されました。主 に、本所の地域連携分野との関わりの深い、科学自然都市協 創連合の事務局として、その運営をサポートしています。また、 本所の前身である東京大学第二工学部の歴史資料の保存・活 用、並びに、本所の同窓会組織である、「生研同窓会」の事務 局業務も担当しています。

The Office of Social Cooperation and Archives was established in April 2021 by reorganizing IIS Archives in order to promote collaboration between IIS and local governments and regions.

It mainly supports the operation of the Inter-Regional Network for Sustainable Coexistence with Nature, which is closely associated with the field of regional collaboration in IIS. The Office is also in charge of preserving and utilizing historical materials of the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Engineering II that is the predecessor of IIS. In addition, it is also in charge of the secretariat of the IIS alumni association called “Seiken Alumni Association”.

教育・社会貢献 ／ Education & Philanthropy 研究者や高度な技術者の育成のために、大学院学生の教 育だけでなく、民間の技術者等を対象とした社会人教育 にも努めています。また、海外からの留学生・研究生受 け入れによる国際的な教育の推進を行い、講習会・セミ ナー等を通じて研究成果を広く社会に還元しています。 さらに、研究を通じて青少年に対する科学教育を行うな ど、国際総合工学研究所としての本所の特徴を生かした ユニークな教育も展開し、 幅広い社会貢献を行っています。

大学院教育 ／ Graduate Education 本所の教員は、教育部局としての工学系、理学系、新領域創 成科学、情報理工学系等の各研究科、情報学環に所属し、大 学院の講義や演習を担当、大学院学生の指導を行っています。 各研究科および学環に属する修士・博士の学生が本所の各研 究室に配属され、研究活動を行っています。 Faculty members of IIS conduct regular courses and exercises at the Engineering and Science divisions of the Graduate Schools of UTokyo and supervise research activities of graduate students assigned to IIS.

学部教育 ／ Undergraduate Education

Educational activities of IIS are basically grouped under three categories; education for students, that for industrial researchers, and that for younger generation. It also promotes international education by accepting students and researchers from overseas. IIS gives back to society by sharing its research findings through lectures, seminars, etc. Furthermore, IIS widely contributes to society by providing unique science education for the youth, making use of IIS characteristics as an international engineering research institute. キャンパス公開 ／ Campus Open House 駒場リサーチキャンパスでは、開所記念日（５月31日）に近 い金土曜日の２日間、本所の研究内容を一般公開し、最新の 研究内容に触れる機会を提供しています。

柏キャンパスでは、大規模実験高度解析推進基盤を中心に駒場 では実施困難な大規模な実験研究等を行っており、秋に行われ る柏キャンパス公開でその研究内容を一般公開しています。 The Campus Open House is an annual event held in May or June for two days. During the period, IIS is open to visitors whatever the age group.

IIS conducts large-scale experiments combined with advanced analysis on the Kashiwa Campus, which are introduced to visitors at the Kashiwa Open Campus in autumn.

本所の教員は、工学部の講義、教養学部の基礎科目や初年次 ゼミナール理科を担当し、さらに、全学自由研究ゼミナール、 全学体験ゼミナールも多数開講しています。また、非常勤講 師として他大学でも講義を行っています。 IIS is being actively involved in undergraduate education through lectures and seminars. Most of the faculty members teach on a part-time basis at the Faculty of Engineering in UTokyo and at other universities.

教育の国際交流 ／ International Education 世界各国から多くの留学生・研究生を受け入れ、研究だけで なく教育においても積極的な国際交流に寄与しています （p.19-20参照）。 IIS contributes to international education by accepting overseas students from around the world (ref. pp. 19-20).

キャンパスライフ・学生イベント ／ Campus Life 博士課程２年の大学院学生が、研究内容の発表を通して相互 理解を深めることを目的とした、「IIS PhD Student Live」を 年１回実施しています。 所として企画されるイベントとともに、各部門や各研究室で の活動も活発に行われています。本所の若手教員と学生が編 集する「生研ニュース キャンパスライフ特集号」にも、本所 学生の声が掲載されています。

青少年に対する科学教育活動 ／ Youth Educational Programs for Science and Technology 本所で行われている研究とその成果を産業界と協働して教育、 特に初等・中等教育に展開することを目的として「次世代育 成オフィス；Office for the Next Generation（ONG） 」は設 置されました。本所の特長を生かして“産業界と初等・中等教 育の結び付け”を促進し、“研究者による教育・アウトリーチ 活動”を企画・支援することで、イノベーションを創り出す次 世代の人材を育成するSTEAM*教育の新しいモデルを創り出 すことを目的としています。これらの実現を目指して、1）研 究者・技術者の直接参加活動、2）ICTによる浸透・普及活動 を行っています。具体的な内容として、1）は出張授業やワー クショップ等の活動であり､ 2）は1）の内容を実験教材や映 像教材化し、WEBを通して発信しています。これらの活動を 展開し促進していくため、学生・職員を中心とした「東大生 研によるScientists for the Next Generation! (次世代の科 学者を）」（SNG）と教員による研究グループ「循環する科学 技術」研究会（旧「知の社会浸透」ユニット）と協力し、ま た学内外の連携も強化しています。 *Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics の頭文字をとったもの。

The Office for the Next Generation (ONG) has been founded at IIS in order to transfer the latest science and technology at university to elementary and secondary education through strong partnership with industries. The objective of the ONG is to cultivate future scientists and engineers by promoting the liaison between industry and (elementary/secondary) education and by supporting the outreach activities and STEAM* education by IIS researchers.

To achieve this goal, ONG conducts mainly two types of activities: 1) lectures and workshops organized by the scientists and engineers and 2) ICT-based educational activities. In activity 2), experimental or video teaching materials are delivered on the Internet. These activities are performed by cooperation with groups such as the student and technical staff-run program called SNG (Scientists for the Next Generation!) and the Circulating science and technology research group consisting of faculty members of IIS (former Knowledge Dissemination Unit).

UTokyoGSC （東京大学グローバルサイエンスキャンパ ス）／ UTokyoGSC (The University of Tokyo Global Science Campus) 本学では、次世代人材育成事業であるグローバルサイエンス キャンパス（GSC）を2019年度に開始しました。本所が実 施主体となり、次世代育成オフィス（ONG）が本事業の取り まとめを行っており、教育委員会、企業、海外大学等と連携 して実施しています。東京大学グローバルサイエンスキャン パス（UTokyoGSC） 「イノベーションを創造するグローバル 科学技術人材の育成プログラム」は、科学技術に卓越した意 欲と能力を持った高校生を発掘し、大学で最先端の研究活動 を行うことで、グローバルな視点に立って、未来社会をデザ インできる革新的な科学技術人材を育成する2段階のプログラ ムです。第一段階では、全国から選抜された高校生がSTEAM 型ワークショップなどを通して研究計画を練り、第二段階で は本学で研究活動を行います。国内・国際学会での発表や学 術論文執筆に挑戦することを通して、STEAM的な領域を横断 した視点を養います。 UTokyo has newly started Global Science Campus (GSC) as the next-generation fostering program in 2019. IIS is the main body, and the Office for the Next Generation (ONG) organizes this program by cooperating with the Board of Education, companies, and overseas universities. UTokyoGSC, “Creating Innovation: Education Program for the Next Generation of Global Scientists and Engineers”, is a two-stage program that fosters next generation innovative scientists and engineers who can design a future society from a global perspective. In the first stage, high school students selected from all over the country create their research plan through STEAM type workshops. In the second stage, further chosen high school students will research at the university, and develop their STEAM type interdisciplinary perspectives by challenging presentations at academic conferences and writing academic papers.

社会人教育 ／ Advanced Training for Junior Engineers and Scientists 産業界・官界の研究者・技術者に対する再教育にも積極的に 取り組んでいます。大学の学部卒業またはこれに準ずる者を 研究生として受け入れ、教育・研究指導を行っています。また、 民間企業等の現職技術者・研究者を受託研究員やNExT研修員 として受け入れています。これらは、自身の専門分野とは異 なる新たな能力を構築したいという意欲をもった企業のエン ジニアの方々に門戸を開放するものであり、工学分野におけ る最先端の知識の学習に加え、新事業創成に通じる研究開発 の手法を身につけるサポートを行っています。 Junior engineers and scientists from industry and governmental institution who have scholastic qualifications that are equivalent or superior to a bachelor’s degree are admitted as research students.

Engineers and scientists from industrial and other organizations are also accepted as commissioned researchers and “New Expertise Training (NExT) researcher” for corporate engineers.

Here, IIS offers educational support for corporate engineers to help them developing new expertise and fostering insights in diverse fields.

産学連携 ／ Industry–University Collaboration 国際・産学連携室（p.10）は、（一財）生産技術研究奨励会（奨 励会）・産学連携支援室と協力して、産学連携を積極的に推進 しています。奨励会は、工業生産に関する技術的諸問題の研 究を助成し、その進歩発展を図ることを目的に設立された一 般財団法人です。産学連携の高度化と新しい連携関係の開拓 を目指した施策として１）産学連携の窓口機能と企画部門の 強化、２）研究開発の前段階からの産学連携を狙う「特別研 究会」の設置、３）産業界との共同研究を活性化するための TLOを設置し、積極的な運営を展開しています。 The Office of International and Corporate Relations（p.10）and the Industrial Liaison Office of the Foundation for the Promotion of Industrial Science (FPIS) are working in collaboration to promote industry–university collaboration. FPIS serves as a foundational juridical institution established to support research on production technologies. Targeting high-level industry–university collaboration and new relationships among industries, these institutes are: (1) reinforcing coordination for industry–university collaboration and planning, (2) establishing the Special Research Group aiming at industry– university collaboration from the pre-research and development stage, and (3) establishing the Technology Licensing Organization (TLO) to enable collaborative research with industry.

With the specialization and advancement of science and technology, there is an increasing need for universities to cooperate with industry and the government. IIS plays an active role in bridging the gap between industry and engineering research in academia by actively utilizing the following programs.

学生の連携研究活動の表彰 ／ UTokyo-IIS Research Collaboration Initiative Award 産業界との共同研究開発、地域社会との連携活動や社会実装、 国際的な共同研究や交流、社会・地球規模の課題解決に資す る基礎研究など生研らしい連携研究活動に取り組み、成果を 上げるとともに、研究活動を通して成長したことに対して表 彰する、本所の大学院学生対象の賞を、2021年度に設立しま した。 This award, established in 2021, is given to IIS graduate students who successfully demonstrate their achievements and growth in collaborative research activities that are unique to IIS. Those include activities such as joint research and development with industry, collaborative activities/social implementation with local societies, international research collaboration and communication, and basic research that contributes to solving social and global issues.

奨学金 ／ Corporate Sponsored Fellowship 2021年に、本所独自の奨学金制度Continental UTokyo-IIS Global Engineering Fellowshipを新たに立ち上げました。本 フェローシップは、国際的な貢献を行う意欲のある本所の修 士学生を奨励することを目的とするもので、コンチネンタル・ ジャパン提供の給付型奨学金です。 In 2021, Continental UTokyo-IIS Global Engineering Fellowship was newly established. Offered by Continental Japan, the fellowship aims to encourage master course students at IIS who are willing to make contributions to the international community.

民間等との共同研究 ／ Collaborative Research with Private Sector 民間機関等から研究者および研究費を受け入れて、本所の教 員が民間機関等と共同で研究を行う制度です。また、複数の 民間機関等と複数の大学とが共同で参加するプロジェクト研 究も行っているほか、民間機関と本所のメンバーが共同で、 具体的な研究テーマの選定から、予算配分の決定、進捗の確 認などを実施する包括連携も行っています。本所では中堅・ 中小企業等との連携も重視しており、2015年度には新エネル ギー・産業技術総合開発機構の「中堅・中小企業への橋渡し 研究開発促進事業」における「橋渡し研究機関」に認定され ています。

社会連携研究部門 ／ Social Cooperation Programs 公益性の高い共通の課題について、本学と共同して研究を実 施することを目的としています。民間機関等から受け入れる 経費等を活用して、研究部門を開設する制度です。 Social Cooperation Programs were established in 2011 to carry out researches on subjects with huge social benefits. The programs are based on collaborative research with industry. Chairs are founded with the aid of funds from industry.

Researchers and research funds from industrial organizations are accepted to conduct joint research with IIS faculty members. Facilities and equipment in IIS can be used for the collaborative research. Collaborative research projects with multiple universities and industrial organizations can be also organized.

In addition, a comprehensive collaboration scheme in which industrial organizations’ members and IIS faculty members jointly select the concrete research themes, decide budget allocation and confirm progress etc. is conducted. IIS considers that the collaboration with small and medium sized companies are also very important. For example, IIS has been awarded a certification from NEDO (New Energy and Technology Development Organization) as a translational research institute, which authorizes application for NEDOʼs “Translational Research Promotion Program for Small and Medium-size Enterprises”.

受託研究 ／ Commissioned Research 産業界等から特定の研究課題を受託し、本所教員が研究を実 施する制度です。多方面の専門家が参画し、基礎から応用ま で一貫した研究を行うことを特色としています。 This program facilitates IIS faculty members to study specific research subjects entrusted by industrial organizations. Specialists in various scientific fields at IIS conduct integrated studies from basic research to application technology.

受託研究員・研究生・NExT研修員 ／ Commissioned Researchers, Research Students and New Expertise Training Program (NExT Program) 民間企業等の技術者や研究者を受け入れ、教育・研究指導を 行っています。 Engineers and researchers from industrial organizations are trained on specific research subjects as commissioned researchers and research students of IIS.

寄付金 ／ Endowment 研究を発展させることを目的として寄付金を受け入れる制度 です。個別の教員に対する寄付のほか、本所に対する寄付も 受け入れています。

産学連携研究協力協定~本所の包括的研究アライアンス~ ／ Industry-Academia Comprehensive Research Alliance 2016年度から「Fund」制の産学連携研究運営システムを採 用し、企業から拠出された研究資金をもとに、本所および企 業双方の関係者から構成される運営委員会の管理のもと柔軟 かつダイナミックな資金運用による包括的な研究開発を行っ ています。 現在、下記の企業と協定を結び、多様な研究を包括的に推進 しています。 ニチコン株式会社（2016～） 日本航空電子工業株式会社（2019～） プライムプラネットエナジー＆ソリューションズ株式会社、 パナソニックエナジー株式会社、 豊田通商株式会社 （2022～） In 2016, IIS launched the Industry-Academia Comprehensive Research Alliance system. With research funds contributed by companies, various collaborative research projects are carried out through flexible and dynamic fund management under a steering committee consisting of members from both IIS and the companies.

Research funds are accepted to promote studies conducted by IIS faculty members. The funds financially support facility management and studies in the field of industrial science.

寄付研究部門 ／ Corporate Sponsored Research Program 研究教育のより一層の活性化を図ることを目的として、民間 等からの寄付による基金をもって、研究部門を開設する制度 です。 Endowed chairs are established on the basis of funds contributed by industrial organizations to promote research and education. The contents of research and education conducted by endowed chairs are negotiated and decided by IIS as with other research departments.

IIS promotes international academic exchange through joint studies with international researchers and educational activities for international students. 外国人研究者招聘および研究者海外派遣 ／ Programs for Inviting International Researchers and Sending Researchers Overseas 外国人研究者の招聘制度と（一財）生産技術研究奨励会の助 成による研究者の海外派遣制度があります。外国人研究者の 短期招聘制度では、広く海外からの研究者を受け入れていま す。研究者の海外派遣は、国際会議への出席および長期／短 期滞在による研究活動を目的とするものがあり、教員、技術 職員、大学院学生等が支援を受けています。

There are support programs for researchers coming from and going overseas. A short-term invitation program is offered to international researchers with various backgrounds. For sending researchers abroad, the Foundation for the Promotion of Industrial Science financially assists faculty members, technical support staff and graduate students to attend international conferences or reside for research activities.

東京大学ニューヨークオフィス ／ The University of Tokyo New York Office 東京大学ニューヨークオフィスは本所と医科学研究所の協力 により2015年に開設され、現在は本部により運営されていま す。 UTokyo New York Office was established in 2015 through cooperation between IIS and the Institute of Medical Science, and is currently managed by the UTokyo headquarters.

LIMMS / SMMiL-E 本所とフランス国立科学研究センター（CNRS）と共同で、 本所内に1995年に立ち上げたMEMS技術に関する日仏国際 共同ラボ（LIMMS）や、CNRSとリール第１大学の協力のもと、 LIMMSのミラーサイトでもあるSMMiL-E （スマイリー Seeding Microsystems in Medicine in Lille-European Japanese Technologies against Cancer）を、本所初の海外研究ラボ として2014年にフランスのリール市に設置するなど、最先端 の国際研究ネットワークに力を入れています。 Successful examples of IIS Global Research Network include LIMMS (Laboratory for Integrated Micro Mechatronic Systems), established in 1995 in collaboration with CNRS (The French National Centre for Scientific Research), and SMMiL-E (Seeding Microsystems in Medicine in Lille-European Japanese Technologies against Cancer), opened in 2014 in Lille, France as a mirror research site of LIMMS and the first overseas laboratory of IIS.

コンチネンタル・ダルムシュタット工科大学・生研研究 交流プログラム ／ Continental IIS-TUDa Academic Exchange Program 本所とドイツのダルムシュタット工科大学は、コンチネンタ ル社の支援の下、大学院学生の交流プログラムを実施してい ます。2022年度は、本所の博士課程学生1名および修士課程 学生1名が現地の研究室で2ヵ月間研究する一方、ダルムシュ タット工科大学から5名の修士課程学生が本所の研究室に半年 間滞在し研究を実施しました。派遣学生は、渡航費および宿 泊費の支援が受けられます。また、滞在中は、日常生活にお ける疑問やトラブルに対応する相談窓口も完備されています。 本交流プログラムは、本所とダルムシュタット工科大学の研 究交流を加速するとともに、両研究機関の次世代を担う研究 者に、海外の研究者や学生との交流の貴重な機会を与えるも のであり、今後、継続的に実施予定です。 IIS and the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUDa) conduct a program for international exchange between graduate students with the support of Continental AG. In 2022, 1 doctor course student and 1 master course student from IIS studied at TUDa for 2 months, and 5 master course students from TUDa conducted research at IIS for half a year. Students under the program can receive financial support for their travel and accommodation fees, and also general assistance on living abroad at both universities.

We hope this program continues to create international bonds and promote fruitful academic exchange between the next generation of researchers in IIS and TUDa.

留学生・外国人研究者への支援 ／ Support for International Students and Researchers 留学生や外国人研究者が、日本での生活を円滑に送り、安心 して研究活動に集中できるよう、様々なサポート体制を用意 しています。その一環として、日常生活や研究室でのコミュ ニケーションの向上を目的とした日本語教室を開催していま す。また、年数回のIIS International Mixerや先端科学技術 研 究 セ ン タ ー と 連 携 し て 行 う「駒 場 リ サ ー チ キ ャ ン パ ス International Day」など、国際交流を深めるイベントが実施 されています。 IIS has a variety of support and activities for international students and researchers to help them live comfortably and concentrate on research safely in Japan. Japanese language courses are available for improving communication in daily life and in the laboratory. The Public Relations Office was established in April 2017, with the aim of building the IIS brand and further increasing the social recognition for IIS. It is responsible for planning PR strategies, producing press releases, web contents and regular publications, as well as planning and operation of the Campus Open House. It is also focused on enhancing dialogue with society.

広報戦略の立案 ／ Planning of PR Strategies 世界的に一流の研究力を持ち、実践的な産学連携や意欲的な 国際連携を遂行できる伝統と実行力を併せ持つ総合工学研究 所としての本所の姿を社会に伝えるべく、広報戦略の立案を 進めています。生研ロゴのコンセプトを基に、HPや出版物、 ロゴグッズなどのデザイン統一にも努めています。 2022年度は、感染予防対策を徹底した上での3年ぶりとなる 現地での駒場リサーチキャンパス公開実施など、ウィズコロ ナでの情報発信力強化に努めました。

The PR Office works on planning PR strategies in order to inform the public about IIS at work, as an engineering research institute that combines world-class research capacity with the tradition and ability to realize practical collaboration with industry as well as ambitious collaboration with international partners. It also works on unifying the design of IIS website, publications, original goods, etc., based on the concept of the IIS logo.

In the 2022 academic year, the Office worked to strengthen its information dissemination capabilities, including the implementation of a hybrid open house at the Komaba Research Campus.

This was the first time in three years that the open house was held on campus, with thorough infection control measures.

研究成果および活動の発信／ Communication of Research Achievements and Activities ・報道発表 ／ Press releases 年間53件ほどの和文プレスリリース、年間21件ほどの英文プ レスリリース、所長定例記者懇談会などを行っています。 2022年度は、オンライン・オンサイトハイブリッド形式での 記者会見も3件実施しました。 Approximately 53 press releases per year are issued in Japanese, and 21 in English. In addition, the IIS Director General holds a regular press conference. In the 2022 academic year, we also held hybrid press conferences combining online and on-site components.

本号の表紙を飾っていただいたのは人間・社会系部門の 野城智也教授です。第 22 代生研所長も務められた先生は、 その半生を振り返り、迷わずラグビーボールを手にされま した。 野城先生には学生時代にラグビーでのほろ苦い経験があ ります。大学４年の試合で、真正面からのキックを外し六 大学同好会リーグでの優勝を逃したそうです。しかし、そ のことがラグビーとの新たな関わりを生みました。チーム への謝罪のつもりで始めたレフリーが本格化し、最後は協 会 B 級公認レフリーにまでなられたのです。 レフリーの経験が研究や組織のマネジメントにも影響し ていると仰います。ラグビーのルール運用はレフリーの裁 量が大きいため、笛の吹き方で、ラフプレーの応酬の場に もなれば、フェアプレーの場にもなります。状況に応じ て、その日、その場での原則を自らの笛で示し、気持ちよ

く真っ直ぐにプレーしてもらうことが、レフリーに求めら れるそうです。まさにそれは生研という血気盛んな研究プ レイヤーが集まる場と同じではないでしょうか。所長時代 はそのような雰囲気づくりを心がけたそうです。 この春、野城先生は定年を迎えられます。先生は長年、 サステナブル建築の領域を切り拓いてこられました。とく に 40 代で生研に着任してからは、建物履歴の情報化や可 変インフィルの開発など、前職までの研究をもとに社会課 題の解決に力を注ぎました。大胆な研究を許容する生研の 大らかな気風と、産官学の豊かなネットワークが、課題の提 示だけではなく解決策の提示へと研究を前進させてくれた と仰います。そんな生研の魅力こそが、社会の持続可能性に つながっていくのだと改めて感じさせてくれるお話でした。 （広報室 林 憲吾）

They are distributed at various events hosted or co-hosted by IIS, and are also displayed in the newly established Dining Lab.

社会との対話 ／ Dialogue with Society 設立当初から、工学としての学術研究の意義は社会実装の実 現にあることを強く意識して活動してきました。広報室では、 キャンパス公開や国内外での科学コミュニケーションイベン トにおいて、研究成果の発信に加え、社会の声を集めて所内 に伝える双方向型のコミュニケーションにも努めています。 From the beginning, IIS has worked with a strong belief that the value of academic research in engineering lies in its implementation in real life. Through campus open house and various science communication events in Japan and overseas, the Public Relations Office endeavors to enhance two-way communication, by which it tries not only to communicate research achievements of IIS but also to gather various information and voices from society for feedback within IIS.

工学研究においては、しばしば大規模かつ実践的な実験 やシミュレーションが必要となります。本基盤では、大 型振動台や海洋工学水槽、実験フィールドなどの大規模 施設を活用して、駒場Ⅱキャンパスではできない実践的 な研究を実施するとともに、高度なデータ解析、モデリ ング、シミュレーションなどを融合して総合的・革新的 な研究を遂行しています。また、柏および柏Ⅱキャンパ スの各部局、他機関との連携を一層強化し、より広汎な 研究も展開しつつあります。現在、５研究室が常駐し、 新野俊樹基盤長を中心に管理運営業務にあたっています。

Engineering research often requires large-scale and practical experiments and simulations. At LEAP, practical research that cannot be conducted on Komaba II Campus is pursued, using large-scale facilities such as large shaking table, ocean engineering basin, and experimental fields. Also, comprehensive and innovative research is conducted fusing advanced data analysis, modeling, simulations, etc. There is enhanced collaboration with other departments and organizations on Kashiwa and Kashiwa II Campus, enabling a wide range of research. At present, 5 IIS laboratories stationed in Kashiwa engage in the management and operation of LEAP, led by Director NIINO, Toshiki.

イノベーションを起こすための重要な鍵は、 「人に新たな 価値・豊かさをもたらすデザイン」だと考えます。本所 はデザインとエンジニアリングの融合によるイノベー ションの創出とデザインエンジニアリングの教育を目的 として価値創造デザイン（Design-Led X）を推進して います。英国 RCA （Royal College of Art)と共同でラボ を所内に設置したことに端を発し、現在はイスラエルの ベツァルエル美術デザイン学院やシンガポール国立大学 といった様々なパートナーと国際的な連携を展開してい ます。新野俊樹基盤長を中心に、今後も積極的に様々な プロジェクトや活動を展開していきます。

The Design-Led X (DLX) Platform believes the key concept for innovation in the future is that “design should bring value to people”. IIS has developed the DLX Platform with the objective of creating innovation through the fusion of design and engineering and additionally to develop design engineering education. The DLX Platform has been developing international collaborations with various partners such as Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Israel and National University of Singapore in Singapore, starting with the establishment of a joint laboratory in IIS with the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. For 2020 and beyond the DLX Platform is now developing new projects and activities, led by Director NIINO, Toshiki.

基礎系部門では、固体・流体の物性や力学特性を評価し モデル化するという、工学・理学の基礎となる課題を、 ミクロからマクロスケールまで広汎にカバーする研究を 行っています。非線形光学、表面界面の物性、半導体物理、 多体系物理、流体の物性と運動、ソフトマター、材料強 度と物性、耐震・減災工学などの研究を中核に、物理・ 応用物理、材料工学、機械工学、建築・社会基盤工学の 分野で、学内外の研究者と有機的な連携のもと、研究活 動を行っています。

The Department of Fundamental Engineering covers a wide range of fundamental research pertaining to the field of engineering and strongly promotes multidisciplinary cooperation between different areas. The Department of Mechanical and Biofunctional Systems covers mechanical, precision, and ocean engineering, which deal with integrated knowledge derived from a wide range of fields. The Department of Informatics and Electronics is engaged in three broad overlapping areas of research: (a) information and computer sciences; (b) nanoelectronics/ photonics and very large-scale integration (VLSI); and (c) energy, motion control and micromachines. We strive to be at the forefront of research and development in the future information society. It is run in close collaboration with CIRMM (Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Micro-Nano Methods), DSiP (Research Center for Dependable Socio-information Platform), ITS (Advanced Mobility Research Center) and LIMMS/CNRS-IIS (IRL2820) International Collaborative Research Center, and IIS faculty members in the field of nanomaterials science.

The Department of Human and Social Systems conducts studies on architecture, infrastructure facilities, and urban, regional and global environments as human beings’ social activity field. These fields require various factors for convenience, comfort, sustainability, and safety. 客員部門 高次協調モデリング客員部門 ／Guest Chair for Advanced Interdisciplinary Modeling エネルギー資源の大部分を海外に依存している我が国に とって、太陽光などの再生可能エネルギーの導入によっ てエネルギー自給率を向上させることの意義はとても大 きいと考えられます。高次協調モデリング客員部門では、 太陽光や廃熱などからエネルギーを取り出すためのエナ ジーハーベスティングデバイスの開発、および光触媒を 用いて水から水素を高効率に発生させるためのナノ構造 の設計を行っています。図は、幅広いスペクトルをもつ 太陽光エネルギーを高効率に吸収する広帯域アブソー バーの開発例です。作製したナノ構造は、紫外から近赤 外にわたる広い波長領域で平均83%の吸収率を有し、さ らにその吸収率は入射角や偏光にほとんど依存しません。 またAlをベース金属とするこのナノ構造は、原子や分子 自身が自立的に構造をつくり出す自己組織化現象を利用 して作製できるため、安価で大面積化が可能であるとい うメリットを有しています。このような高効率な広帯域 アブソーバーは、吸収した太陽光エネルギーを熱に変換 し 発 電 に 利 用 す る 太 陽 熱 光 起 電 力 発 電(SolarThermophotovoltaic, STPV)などへの利用が期待できます。

Japan imports most of its energy resources from overseas.

Therefore, improving the energy self-sufficiency rate is very important by introducing renewable energy, such as solar power. In the guest chair for advanced interdisciplinary modeling, we are developing energy harvesting devices to extract energy from sunlight and waste heat, and designing nanostructures for the highly efficient generation of hydrogen from water using photocatalysts.

The figure shows an example of the development of a broadband absorber that absorbs solar energy with high efficiency over a broad spectrum. The fabricated nanostructures have an average absorption rate of 83% over a wide spectral range from UV to NIR, and the absorption rate is almost independent of the angle of incidence and polarization. The Al-based nanostructures can be fabricated using the self-assembling phenomenon, making them inexpensive and enabling large-area fabrication. Such highly efficient broadband absorbers are expected to be used in Solar-Thermophotovoltaic (STPV) systems.

研究目的: 2030年には1,000万人以上の人口になる都市 は増加し、そのうちアジア都市が60％を占めると国連は 予測しています。メガシティでは、インフラを整備し、 複合機能を集約して、さらに安全性を確保する必要があ ります。様々な都市的な課題が浮上するなかで、交通シ ステムと都市開発の協調的な計画方法が求められていま す。メガシティの効率的な資源配分のためには、高効率 で大量の公共交通サービスを提供できる「公共交通指向 の都市開発」を提唱するTODが最適とされています。本 研究部門では、TODに対する評価モデルを研究し、具体 的に東京の都市開発を解析して、アジアの都市計画と発 展に寄与することを目的としています。

Objectives: The United Nations predicts that the number of cities with more than 10 million inhabitants will increase by 2030, with Asian cities accounting for 60%. Megacities will need to develop infrastructure, consolidate complex functions and provide security. Despite the range of issues that arise, a coordinated approach to planning transport systems and urban development is needed. For the efficient allocation of resources in megacities, the TOD model, which advocates “transit-oriented urban development” that can provide high-efficiency, high-volume public transport services, is considered the optimal solution. The aim of our research group is to contribute to urban planning and development in Asia by studying evaluation models for TOD and analysing Tokyo’s urban development.

Objectives: Medical measures for many infectious diseases are not sufficient, and there are still many refractory diseases. Therefore, the development of new treatment and prevention methods are required. Objectives: There is a rapidly growing need for systematization and social implementation through industry-academia -government collaboration of spatial descriptions and IoT networks, which are the basis for areas whose definitions and systems are still unclear, such as Digital Twins and Smart Cities. However, the academic and technological systems for the coordinated operation of devices and AI attached to mobilities, people, and buildings, and for the smooth coordination of operations in physical space and information space, have not been developed. In this research division, we call the whole area for bidirectional and multimodal recognition and exchange between physical and information spaces mediated by space “Interspace”, and promote the transformation between various existing and new sub-categories, and the development of collaborative specifications and technologies. The goal is to promote the development of collaborative specifications and technologies and the transformation between different specifications, both existing and new, in order to create a scientific and technological system that contributes to the valorization and sustainability of future economy and society among the real space.

Objectives: The program provides education in optics directly related to industry and introduces advanced technology of light and how light is used in the world. The class includes lens design training using professional software.

Through industry-academia collaboration, the program develops human resources who can view developing technology and diversifying social needs, and creates future value associated with optics and precision technology.

Objectives: In injection molding, a major polymer processing technology, the emergence of new hard-to-mold/-control materials such as long carbon fiber-reinforced resins and inmold multiple processes such as molding and joining are making molding phenomena so complicated that original molding material characteristics are difficult to realize. This program aims to focus on unexplored technological/academic research areas that would lead to the development of future injection molding technologies for resolving these issues.

Objectives: Recently, with the rapid improvement of information technology such as big data, open data, and AI, it is crucial to improve the latest urban management technology and cultivate the autonomous smart city base. Notably, the network of the mass of people and data management technology without dependence on specific entities is expected.

To systematically achieve these goals, we conduct the digital city composed of corresponding data and software to depict the grand design and concept of urban data infrastructure and launch pilot experiments in anticipation of urban management in the field of disaster prevention, transport, infrastructure construction, and regional economy.

Objectives: Frost formation – the growth of ice films from water vapor on cold solid surfaces – can substantially reduce the thermal efficiency of heat exchangers in air conditioners and refrigerators. In order to establish fundamental guidelines for frost inhibition, this research program fuses theory, simulations, and experiments to elucidate the physical mechanism of the frosting phenomenon from a new hierarchical perspective - from microscopic molecular interactions at the solid/water interface to the macroscopic development of ice films.

現在人類が直面している地球規模の課題の一つが、水に まつわる問題です。水は、洪水や渇水はもちろん、気候 変動・食料問題・エネルギー問題・環境問題とも密接に 関わり、地政学や安全保障の観点からも極めて重要です。 グローバル水文予測センターでは、本所で世界をリード してきた「グローバル水文学」について、強固で体系だっ たチームを駒場・本郷・柏の三極構造で構築し、日本の 河川流域から地球規模までを対象とした水文現象の観測、 プロセス解明、モデリング、並びに予測に関する最先端 研究を推進すること、およびその成果を用いて社会に貢 献することを目的としています。 One of the global challenges that humanity is currently facing is the issue related to water. Water is closely related to not only floods and droughts, but also climate change, food, energy, and environmental issues, and is also extremely important from the perspective of geopolitics and security. The Global Hydrological Prediction Center (GHPC) will establish a strong and systematic team in Komaba, Hongo, and Kashiwa to promote cutting-edge research on observation, process elucidation, modeling, and prediction of hydrological phenomena from river basins in municipal to the global scales, and to contribute to society using the research achievements.

マイクロナノ領域の加工や設計技術は、高付加価値産業 の創出、高齢化社会対応、CO2削減等の社会課題を解決 するために必須の基盤です。本センターでは既存技術の 漸進的改良を超えて、原子・分子の挙動やメソスコピッ クな寸法に由来する微視的な現象（True Nano）に立脚 した画期的な素子機能や加工法、分析方法の実現に向け た研究を行います。さらに国際連携のハブとして、情報 通信、IoT（Internet of Things）、エネルギー、医療等の 広範な応用を推進します。 Design and fabrication technology in micro and nano scales provide essential basis for solving demanding social issues such as supporting an aging community, creating high-value-added industries, and reducing CO2 emission. The research in the centre aims at revolutionary break-through in device function, manufacturing process and evaluation methods based on “True Nano” phenomena associated with atomic/molecular behaviors and mesoscopic size effects. The living sphere of humankind is deeply related to the ocean as well as the land and the atmosphere. The area of the seabed occupies 70% of the earth's surface, and the total mass of seawater (average depth of 3,700 m) is 260 times that of the entire atmosphere. We will establish and deploy the advanced underwater observation technology that knows the essence of the functions of the sea and makes effective use of them. In addition, utilizing IoT, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data technologies, we aim to create an ocean cyber space (virtual space) that is highly integrated with the physical space of the ocean (real space) and is open to all, free from the restrictions of access difficulties.

From a declining population in developed countries to instant access to information worldwide, the possibilities and challenges we face in the 21st century are unlike anything the human race has experienced in its entire history. Among the many challenges we face, there are issues that we are not fully aware of yet, and that can have an enormous negative impact if left unattended.

We call these types of challenges “latent issues“. The goal of the Open Engineering Center is to identify or predict these latent issues and use the open engineering concept based on open discussion and collaboration with a variety of stakeholders to address these problems before they fully develop.

毎年のように世界中で地震、風水害など自然災害が発生し、 多くの人命や財産が失われています。私たちは総力戦でこ れらの災害に立ち向かうしかない状況に直面しています。 そこでDMTCは、新たな局面における災害対策の研究と人 材育成の新しい研究・教育組織として、横断的かつ体系的 に研究し学びあうことで、様々なセクターで活躍できる人 材養成を行います。 災害対策に関する「研究」と「教育」を両輪として、災害 対策に関する知の集積と研究を促進し、行政、民間企業、 各種団体、地域住民、NPOなど多様なステークホルダーに よる災害対策の発展に貢献します。 なお、DMTCは、大学院情報学環総合防災情報研究センター （CIDIR）とも協力して運営していきます。 Every year, natural disasters such as earthquakes and storms and floods occur all over the world, and many lives and property are lost. We have to reduce the risk by comprehensive approaches concerning stakeholders. Therefore, DMTC will develop a capacity-building program that can play an active role in various sectors by conducting cross-sectional and systematic research and learning as a new educational service based on disaster management research. By promoting the accumulation and research of knowledge on disaster management, with “research“ and “education“ as the two wheels, we will contribute to the disaster risk reduction by various stakeholders such as governments, private companies, local residents, and NPOs. DMTC will also operate in cooperation with the Center for Integrated Disaster Information Research (CIDIR), the Graduate School of Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies.

Consistent, adaptable and responsive connection and operation are required to maximise the benefit and welfare by the diffusion and extension of the digital twin in the built environment. The center proposes “Interspace” as the area between physical and cyberspaces. Well-designed interspace enables accurate and precise reflection of the events and state-of-arts in physical space to cyberspace. It also enables responsive conversion of processing and operations in cyberspace. The center focuses on developing a universal method of spatial description that supports interoperable activities of varieties of autonomous agents such as people, robotics, and components of the built environment. The center facilitates a holistic approach to enhance such “common ground” of spatial description through global partnership with a wide range of stakeholders.

The increasing evolution of social systems leads to increased immediacy of action and future unpredictability. The center views such social systems as nonlinear “complex systems” and aims to analyze mathematical structures and promote creative problem solving collaboration across industry, government, and academia.

Analyses of financial markets will be one of the most important research objectives. Frequent market instability and turmoil impact various social, business, and government initiatives. Using advanced time series and network analysis methods, we will initially explore the scientific basis for effective “prediction and control” of financial crises.

As we have learned from the pandemic, digital transformation (DX) has a wide variety of merits in addition to cost reduction. However, in DX, we may face a lot of issues regarding security and privacy. We must also consider social-acceptability matters such as energy consumption by data centers and cryptocurrency systems. This research center aims to solve such social problems and maximize the merits of DX. We thus create socio-information platforms supported by various stakeholders, and promote research activities for utilizing the platforms.

「工学とバイオ」研究グループは1999年に設立され、幅広い 工学研究者がバイオを軸としてゆるく広くつながり、新しい 研究を生み出す場を継続して提供してきました。特に近年は 組織工学、幹細胞技術、微細加工技術、流体工学、化学、計 算科学などの融合によってバイオに関連した工学研究が目覚 しく発展し、熟してきています。本所では、「分子設計」 、 「有 機合成」 、 「薬理・分子動態」 、 「診断・デバイス」 、 「生物数理」 など、工学者によるさまざまなライフサイエンス分野の研究 が盛んに行われています。そこで本センターでは、工学とバ イオ研究グループの成果の継承・発展のために、多様な技術 のフレキシブルな連携研究が行いやすい環境を構築すること を目的にしています。これを機に社会的な課題を解決するた め各研究部門に跨る連携研究プロジェクト、予防医学に向け るヒトの健康・安全・安心の社会とQOLを向上させるデバイ スやシステムの研究開発などを推進します。 IIS Research Group for Research on Engineering in Medicine and Biology (RG-EMB) was established in 1999 and continuingly provided opportunities to create new research for wide variety of engineering researchers connected extensively and flexibly around biology. Especially in recent years, biology related engineering research is remarkably advanced and maturing by the fusion of tissue engineering, stem cell technology, microfabrication technology, fluid engineering, chemistry, computer science, etc. In IIS, engineering researchers actively conduct various life science related research such as molecular design, organic synthesis, pharmacokinetics, diagnostic device, mathematical biology, etc. Therefore, for the succession and development of the achievement by RG-EMB, the center aims to establish the environment easier to conduct interdisciplinary collaborative research inside and outside of IIS. In order to solve future social problems, we promote cross-departmental collaborative research projects, development of devices and systems for the improvement of preventive medicine for human health, safe and secure society and QOL, and so on.

本所とフランス国⽴科学研究センター（CNRS）は1995 年以来、MEMS技術に関する国際共同研究組織LIMMS を運営、2004年には、CNRSの正式な国際研究組織UMI （Unité Mixte Internationale）に昇格し、本所では国 際連携研究センターとして認定されました。主にナノテ クノロジー新分野の開拓、バイオ応⽤マイクロシステム の研究、先端的集積化マイクロシステムの研究を⾏って います。これまでに、300名を超えるフランス⼈研究者 が本センターで活発な国際共同研究を⾏ってきました。 原⼦・分⼦スケールからナノ・マイクロスケールにおけ る特徴的な物理現象の観測や制御、エネルギーハーベス ティング、バイオ計測・センサー、細胞、神経、⾎管な どに関する研究が幅広く⾏われています。また、フランス・ リール市には、日仏共同研究拠点SMMiL-Eを設置し、バ イオMEMS技術を臨床応用することで、がんなどの疾病 治療やその原因解明を目指す研究が行われています。 Since 1995, LIMMS, an international joint research organization on MEMS technology, has been operated by IIS and the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France). In 2004, LIMMS was promoted to UMI (Unité Mixte Internationale), an official international research organization of the CNRS, and LIMMS was recognized as an international collaborative research. LIMMS is mainly engaged in the development of new fields of nanotechnology, research on bio-applied microsystems, and advanced integrated microsystems. To date, more than 300 French researchers have been actively engaged in international collaborations at LIMMS. A wide range of research is being conducted on the observation and control of characteristic physical phenomena at the atomic/ molecular scales to the nano/micro scales, energy harvesting, bioinstrumentation and sensors, cells, nerves, and blood vessels. In Lille (France), SMMiL-E, a research structure of LIMMS, is working on the clinical application of bio-MEMS technology for the treatment of diseases such as cancer and the elucidation of their causes.

研究グループ ／ Interdisciplinary Group Researches 総合的、境界的あるいは学際的研究が、現代の工学研究 の１つの柱であることは、いうまでもありません。こう した研究は異なる分野の研究者が、組織上の枠を超えて、 総合的あるいは境界的研究を実施する研究グループを組 織することにより推進されるものです。そして卓越した グループを Research Group of Excellence（RGOE）と して認定し、活動を助成する制度があります。各研究グ ループは、研究者の自由意志により、また研究段階およ び研究の特色に応じた結びつきにより、流動的に組織さ れます。

Interdisciplinary research serves as an important backbone for modern engineering science. This approach to research can only be achieved by coordinating the efforts of researchers from various disciplines through a highly integrated framework that allows free communication at all levels among the different fields. Evolving requirements have led to the formation of groups whose research activities transcend the boundaries of traditional disciplines. In order to acknowledge their achievements, prominent interdisciplinary groups have been certified under the name of Research Group of Excellence (RGOE); the realization of the RGOE aids and further promotes the activities of these groups. Each research group is flexible and is capable of adapting its organization to accommodate different stages of its activities according to the requirements.

共通施設等 ／ Common Facilities 試作工場 ／ Central Workshop 研究活動に必要な実験装置やテストピースなどの設計と製作、ならびに部品や材料の 調達を行っています。設計室を含めた金属・樹脂加工を扱う機械加工技術室、理化学 実験用ガラス機器を製作するガラス加工技術室、安全講習受講者が使える共同利用加 工技術室があります。このほか学内の技術職員に対する技術研修を実施しています。 The Central Workshop offers design and manufacturing services for experimental equipment and test pieces required for research activities. Procurement service is also available for parts and materials. The Workshop consists of a machining technology room including a design room for handling metal and resin processing, a glass processing technology room for manufacturing glass equipment for scientific experiments, and a shared use machining technology room that can be used by those who have taken safety courses. In addition, the Workshop provides technical training for the university’s technical staff.

映像技術室 ／ Image Technology Room 研究活動や教育に必要な実験資料など、研究発表に使用する写真・ビデオの制作をし ています。内容は多岐にわたり、高度な技法を要する特殊な作業も少なくありません。 また、オープン利用機器にはB０サイズまで出力できる写真画質のポスター出力機を導 入しています。このほか本所紹介ビデオへの資料映像の提供、さらに、所内で開催さ れるシンポジウムなどの配信作業も担当しており、所の広報活動にも協力しています。 Image Technology Room provides various services necessary for research activities and postgraduate education at IIS, including photography and video production using highend digital cameras, scanners, and high-resolution photo printers. In addition, high-quality photo poster printers up to B0 size are always available. Image Technology Room is also contributing to the public relations activities of IIS by providing technical support for various events held on campus.

電子計算機室 ／ Computer Center 電子計算機室は、本所全体のネットワークサービスを提供しています。基盤ネットワー クとして、10Gbpsのネットワークスイッチ、駒場IIと柏キャンパスを集中管理型AP で一体的にカバーする無線LAN、不正アクセス検知などのセキュリティ対策システム 等を備えます。ネットワーク上のサービスとして、メール、DNS、ファイル共有、 VPN、WWWホスティング、電子案内板など多様なサービスを提供しています。 Computer Center provides “Internet Protocol (IP) network services” for IIS. As a network infrastructure, we have 10Gbps Ethernet switched network, unified controlled WiFi AP covering Komaba and Kashiwa Campuses, a system for security measures such as intrusion detection, and so on. In addition, we provide various services such as Mail, DNS, File sharing, VPN, WWW hosting, Electrical information board, and more.

流体テクノ室 ／ Cryogenic Service Room 流体テクノ室は、本所内における物質、バイオ、ナノテクノロジー系の研究活動に必 要不可欠な液体ヘリウム、液体窒素、窒素ガス、イオン交換水などの特殊流体を各研 究室に供給するインフラ施設です。主な設備として、ヘリウム液化システム（65L/h） 、 液体窒素貯槽（11,000L、2基）、一次純水製造装置（2,000L/h、比抵抗5MΩ･cm 以上）などを配備しています。さらに窒素ガスとイオン交換水は、建物内に配管を通 して、直接各研究室に供給を行っています。また、ガスボンベ・寒剤の保安講習や高 圧ガス製造設備の法的管理なども担当しています。 Cryogenic Service Room supplies cryogenic liquids (liquid helium and liquid nitrogen), dry nitrogen gas, and deionized water, which are indispensable ingredients for research activities on semiconductor technologies, material sciences, and biotechnologies at IIS. The room runs a helium liquefier/recovery system and can produce liquid helium at a rate of 65L/hr, and possesses two 11,000L liquid nitrogen storage tanks. Because security is important when handling cryogenic liquids, the room offers tutorials to researchers and students. Further, the room operates a large-capacity water purifier and supplies high quality deionized water throughout IIS.

環境安全管理室 ／ Environment, Health and Safety Management Office 本所の研究・教育活動に関わる全ての教職員を含む本所構成員に対して、労働安全衛 生法による安全衛生管理等を確実かつ継続的に実施するために置かれた組織です。特 定危険有害作業の作業主任者の選任、安全衛生教育、環境測定、健康管理など、所内 担当部署と連携して業務を行っています。その他、安全管理に必要な機器や排水モニ タリングシステム、実験で生ずる廃液などの収集施設などを備えています。 This office was established to set up and maintain a reliable and continuous safety and health management system based on the industrial safety and health law for all IIS members participating in research and educational activities. The main activities of the office are as follows: assigning operation chiefs for specific accident or hazard prevention control; providing health and safety education and training; conducting work environment measurements; providing healthcare through medical examinations; and performing and implementing point-by-point safety inspections and various safety and health measures to preserve a good research environment. In addition, the office has various equipment for safety checks, a waste-water monitoring system, and a safety depot for chemically hazardous wastes.

図書室 ／ Library 図書室は駒場リサーチキャンパスの南端に位置しており、本所の研究分野全般にわた る学術雑誌および図書を収集・整備・保存し、研究者の利用に供しています。所蔵資 料の提供のほか、学内外の図書館との相互協力により、本所構成員へのドキュメント・ デリバリー・サービスの充実を図っています。 IIS Library, located at the south end of Komaba Research Campus, collects academic journals and books on the overall field of IIS activities. The library material is open for the University members and visitors. In addition to providing our materials, we have provided document delivery service to IIS members in cooperation with other libraries.

クリーンルーム設備 ／Cleanrooms 半導体や金属などの電子材料の超微細加工は、エレクトロニクス、フォトニクス、バ イオ研究にとって必要な技術であり、クリーンルームは試料やデバイスへの不純物や 欠陥の混入を極限まで抑制するために不可欠なインフラです。本館とCCR棟合わせて 約1,000 m2超の面積を持つ本所のクリーンルームでは、超微細トランジスタやナノ フォトニック構造、パワーデバイス、MEMSなどの作製に必要な最先端のプロセス装 置（酸化炉、分子線エピタキシーなどの結晶成長装置、薄膜堆積装置、イオンエッチ ング装置、電子ビーム露光装置など）が稼働しています。 Nanofabrication of semiconductors, metals, and other electronics materials is the most important part for electronics, photonics, and bio-research, and cleanrooms are an indispensable infrastructure for minimizing contamination of fabricated devices with impurities and defects. In the cleanrooms at our institute, which have an area of larger than 1,000 m2, state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities for realizing nanotransistors, nanophotonic structures, power devices, and MEMSs (oxidation, epitaxy, thin film deposition, ion etching, electron beam lithography, etc.) are in operation.

統合バイオ実験施設 ／ Integrative Biotechnology Experimental Facility 統合バイオ実験施設は、本所に存在する共通のバイオ実験施設であり「バイオナノ研 究教育施設（Fw801･Fw802） 」および「P2実験施設（As505） 」を総称しています。 施設内には、最先端のバイオテクノロジー関連装置が設置され、所内のバイオ関連実 験の加速化、効率化を行っています。 The Integrative Biotechnology Experimental Facility is a common bio-experimental facility that exists in IIS, and collectively refers to the “Bio-Nano Research and Education Facility (Fw801 and Fw802)” and the “P2 Experimental Facility (As505)”. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art biotechnology-related equipment to accelerate and improve the efficiency of biotechnology-related experiments in IIS.

ダイニングラボ ／ Dining Lab “ダイニングラボ”は、明日の暮らしをひらく様々な研究を展開している駒場IIキャン パスにふさわしい食堂として、ダイニングスペースに研究のエッセンスを加えて、サ イエンスに関わる会話が自然と湧きあがり、創発を促す場となることを目指していま す。展示やセミナー開催を通じてさまざまな研究活動を紹介するとともに、快適空間、 DX、データサイエンスなどの“人の集い”や、環境、水、健康、食品などの“食”に関わ る多彩なテーマを募り、食事に来る方を巻き込んだ研究も展開する予定です。 食事というくつろぎの時間に、研究というスパイスが加わることによって誘発される、 思いがけない化学反応を生むスペースとなることを目指しています。 The “Dining Lab” serves as a dining facility suited for Komaba II campus, where cutting-edge research is conducted to shape tomorrow’s lifestyles. Our goal is to transform the dining space adding an essence of research, creating a space where discussions pertaining to science can naturally arise and foster innovation. In addition to showcasing a diversity of research activities through exhibitions and seminars, the Lab seeks to explore various themes related to the “gathering of people,” such as creating comfortable spaces, digital transformation, and data science, as well as themes related to “food,” such as environment, water, health, and cuisine. Furthermore, we plan to undertake research involving individuals who dine with us. 新たな海洋空間の創出、地球温暖化、異常気象など地球規模の環境変動に対する海洋 の役割、海洋再生可能エネルギー、海底油田・ガス田、メタンハイドレートなど海洋 資源が注目されています。海洋の環境は時々刻々に変動し、海洋での活動は台風、津 波など極限海洋環境に耐えなければなりません。本水槽設備では、海洋環境計測、海 洋空間利用、海洋再生可能エネルギー開発、海底資源開発などに必要な要素技術の開 発に関連する実験・観測を行っています。 Ocean space utilization, the role of the ocean in global environmental changes such as global warming and extreme weather, and ocean resources such as renewable energy, offshore oil and methane hydrate have attracted attention. The marine environment fluctuates from time to time, and marine activities must withstand extreme marine environments such as typhoons and tsunamis. Experiments and observations are being conducted in the tank facilities to support development of elemental technologies necessary for marine environment measurement, marine space utilization, marine renewable energy development, and submarine resource development.

海洋工学水槽と風路付き造波回流水槽 IIS Ocean Engineering Basin and Circulating Water Channel

次世代モビリティ研究設備 ／ Advanced Mobility Research Equipments ※柏キャンパス ／ Kashiwa Campus

柏地区の北側に整備された鉄道試験線、走行試験路、交通信号機、踏切や、大型車用 ドライビングシミュレータ等、実スケールの実験が可能な研究設備です。自動運転・ 運転支援や、車両・レール系の摩擦・接触、交通制御をはじめとした様々な研究に活 用され、共同研究等を通じて外部の企業・機関にも多く利用されています。 The railway test track, proving ground, traffic lights, railroad crossing, and the driving simulator for large vehicles located on the north side of the Kashiwa Campus enable large-scale experiments. They are actively used for researches on automated driving, driving assistance, frictional contact of railroad and rail vehicles, traffic control, etc., and often used by external industries and institutions through joint researches.

災害に強い社会を支える工学研究（ERS）グループは、次の関連設備を共有・管理し ています。 (1) 振動台関連設備：水平二次元振動台（搭載可能質量10t，テーブル寸法5m×5m， 最大変位±300mm，最大加速度±3G（X）および±2G （Y） ）等 (2) 静的載荷関連設備：静的アクチュエータ3台（最大圧縮試験力500kN，最大引張 試験力300kN，ストローク±300mm）等 (3) 万能試験機（最大容量1000kN） (4) 反力床、壁または加力フレーム Engineering for Resilient Society (ERS) group shares and manages the following facilities.

(1) Shaking table : two-dimensional shaking table (mass 10t, size 5m x 5m, displacement ±300mm, acceleration±3G (X) and ±2G (Y)), etc.

(2) Static loading facilities: three static actuators (compression and tension capacity are 500kN and 300kN, stroke ±300mm), etc.

(3) Universal testing machine（capacity 1000kN） (4) Reaction floor and wall, and loading frame
