Texas Business Honors Program

“
We give BHP students the best undergraduate business education available anywhere. In return, we expect them to make the world a better place.” - ROBERT PRENTICE, BHP FACULTY DIRECTOR
The Texas Business Honors Program (BHP) is a prestigious and selective program, offering a curriculum modeled after MBA programs. It challenges you to think outside of the box. Small class sizes of 30 to 40 students allow for increased focus on discussion, presentation, group collaboration and analytic exercises. The curriculum also addresses leadership and ethics in the modern business world. BHP is more than just a top-rate education--it’s a community. Special programming coordinated by the BHP and the Honors Business Association (HBA) provides opportunities to form strong, lasting relationships with your BHP classmates.
MAJOR. PROGRAM. COMMUNITY.

Majors: BHP, Supply Chain, Economics Class of 2017
BETHANY ROLAN
’17
Bethany Rolan graduated from BHP last year and is currently working as a consultant for McKinsey & Company. In her senior year, Bethany served as president for The University of Texas at Austin Orange Jackets, one of the oldest and most prestigious women’s service organizations on campus. The organization allowed her to meet women from across campus who are driven and supportive, much like her BHP peers. Bethany relished the BHP community and feels she has learned so much from her classmates, who have a wide variety of interests and are extremely supportive of one another. That sense of community and collaboration is something she felt when she attended Discover BHP, the program’s admitted student event, as a senior in high school. She meshed with the students she met there and loved that she could have the experience of being at a large school, while having the classroom experience of a small school through the program. Bethany rounded out her business degrees in BHP and Supply Chain with an Economics degree. During her time at UT Austin, Bethany held three on-campus positions, working for the BHP office as a peer advisor, serving as a research assistant for one of her business professors, and as a teaching assistant for the Business Communications course. She appreciated being able to be involved in the university in so many capacities, but the role she relished above all others was that of an advisor to her BHP peer and prospective BHP applicants.

KELLY MERRYMAN
’98
Before joining YouTube in 2015, Kelly was VP of Content Acquisition for Netflix for seven years. Coming out of BHP, she was interested in management consulting, so she accepted a position with Bain in their Dallas office and worked as a consultant in a variety of industries. She then moved into private equity, joining Audax Group. Kelly left Audax to pursue an MBA at Harvard. That time, she became interested in the entertainment industry and the introduction of digital distribution to that industry. After graduating, she pursued that interest and took a job with Sony Picture in Los Angeles, where she spent three years in their business and corporate development groups, before being recruited to Netflix. Looking back on her time in the BHP, Kelly says the case method taught in small classrooms was very effective and taught her that solutions to complex business problems generally span multiple funtional areas. She also greatly values the network she built through BHP.

He was recruited by BP as one of the first participants in a rotational analyst program for its Integrate Supply and Trading business. The 2012 recipient of the McCombs School of Business BBA Rising Star Award, Dominic has been a UT BHP Advisory Board member since 2003, and he and previously served as Chair. Beyond the strong academic education that the BHP provided him, there are two huge impacts of BHP on his life. The first is the ability to apply learned skills in order to adapt and succeed no matter the situation. Another is the network of hugely successful BHP graduates that he is lucky to call friends. Additionally, the ethical leadership skills attained at McCombs perfectly aligned with the values and behaviors of BP, helping to set him up for success.
