SPENCE’S
MISSION TO MOTIVATE THROUGH STYLE
Urban Trendsetters Magazine caught up with Reginald Spencer, the visionary behind G.U.A.P. Clothing, to discuss how his brand is inspiring a new generation of hustlers to Get Up and Prosper.
Founded by visionary entrepreneur Reginald Spencer, G.U.A.P. (Get Up and Prosper) Clothing is more than just fashion—it’s a movement. Designed for go-getters, dream chasers, and those who turn ambition into action, G.U.A.P. embodies the mindset of success and perseverance. Every piece in the collection reflects a bold, masculine energy that speaks to those who grind daily, aiming for greatness. With a seamless blend of streetwear aesthetics and motivational undertones, G.U.A.P. isn’t just about looking good it’s about making a statement: success is earned, never given.
What inspired you to create G U A P , and how does the name "Get Up and Prosper" reflect your personal values?
I believe that you can’t expect results without putting in the work, hard work. It may not happen when you want it to, but it’ll happen when it’s supposed to.
As a father of 5, how has fatherhood influenced your approach to building G.U.A.P. and its mission?
I want to be the example of what “right” looks like for my kids. Holding myself accountable and being responsible is what I want to normalize for them. That’s a core belief of G.U.A.P.—no excuses, always put forth your best effort.
What lessons do you hope to teach your kids through your journey as an entrepreneur? Never give up. You only fail when you stop trying. Troubleshoot your issues, find a resolution, and try again until you achieve the desired result.
How do you balance running a business with being a hands-on father? It’s challenging, but I approach fatherhood and business the same way—by pouring into them. Both my children and G.U.A.P. will only prosper if I invest my energy into them.
G.U.A.P. is more than a clothing line; it’s a lifestyle brand that motivates others. How do you incorporate that motivation into your everyday life? By working hard. Success doesn’t come from being average. It requires sacrifice time, sleep, whatever it takes until you reach where you want to be.
What challenges did you face in the early days of G.U.A.P., and how did you overcome them? The biggest challenge was myself. I spent over a year trying to make it perfect. Eventually, I told myself to just do it.
How does your kids view your work with G.U.A.P.? Are they involved or interested in following in your footsteps? They aren’t fully in tune with it, except for my oldest son. He’s about to start college, majoring in marketing, and wants to be an entrepreneur. Hopefully, what I’m doing now will inspire him.
In what ways does G.U.A.P. reflect the legacy you want to leave for your children and the next generation?
Work hard, and what’s meant for you will be yours. Whether it’s financial success, being a great family man, or excelling at your job—put in the work.
Who or what has been your biggest inspiration in life?
My kids. Knowing I have an influence on how they’ll be as adults makes it imperative that I be the best version of myself for them.
Do you ever find yourself drawing parallels between parenting and running a business?
How are they similar?
Both parenting and running a business require figuring things out as you go. There are no exact instructions—every situation is different, and how you navigate it determines your future.
What advice would you give an upcoming entrepreneur?
Do your research, but don’t overanalyze to the point of inaction. Too much planning can keep a great idea from ever coming to life.
If you could have anyone wear G.U.A.P., who would it be and why?
Tobe Nwigwe. He embodies the results of hard work, is animated and motivating, and is a devoted family man—an incredible example for the youth.
Any shoutouts?
My mother, sister, children, Cliff Horton, Rodney Morrow, and last but certainly not least Krystal Foster!
