Program Overview

Admission and Application

In the Online BSSW Program, students complete the same curriculum from the same faculty as the students engaged in the UT College of Social Work face-to-face program.

Students complete 60 credit hours to acquire the BSSW degree using both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous learning models.

In addition to required social work courses, students can also take a variety of cutting-edge social work electives including, Forensic Social Work, Mental Illness in Social Work Practice, Crisis Prevention and Suicidology, Substance Use, and Trauma-Informed Care.

Admission Requirements:

Field Education In addition to social work coursework, students complete 600 hours (and earn 15 credit hours) of real-world social work field experience under supervision of social work professionals.

Students are placed in a variety of settings including but not limited to, hospitals, schools, community mental health centers, community nonprofits, local/state agencies, and more.

Students work with our online field coordinator to establish field placements in their local or surrounding communities.

h Completion of 60 transferable credit hours and completion of AA or AS prior to enrollment

h 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher (transfer GPA) h Completion SOWK 200 (Introduction to Social Work) or its equivalent with a grade of C or higher prior to enrollment in the online BSSW program

h Completion SOWK 250 (Introduction to Social Welfare) its equivalent with a grade of C or higher prior to enrollment in the online BSSW program
