CELEBRATING THE COOPERATIVE DIFFERENCE Ryan Campbell, P.E. October is National Co-op Month, a time to celebrate what makes cooperatives like EREC special. Unlike many businesses that answer to outside investors or shareholders, cooperatives are owned by the people they serve. Our focus is on providing value to our members and strengthening the communities we call home. EREC’s story began in 1939 when local neighbors came together to bring electricity to an area other utilities would not serve. A lot has changed since then, but our purpose has remained the same. We are here to provide safe, reliable electricity while making decisions with our members and communities in mind. You can see the cooperative difference every day. It’s in our lineworkers restoring power after a storm, employees helping members, our involvement in local schools and events, and board members who live right here in the communities we serve. This National Co-op Month, we especially want to celebrate you, our members. As a small thank you, we’ve included something special on the back page of this newsletter. EREC members can enjoy free admission to one of three local high school football games while helping us support our local schools and athletic programs. Thank you for being a member of EREC. This is your cooperative, and we are proud to serve you.

Santa Rosa County Mickey Diamond (Vice President) Rick Hunsucker Philip Marshall Wesley Scott Dale Westmoreland (Secretary/Treasurer) The board of directors meets at 5 p.m. the third Monday of each month at the cooperative’s Jay office. FOR POWER OUTAGES Call 877-OUT-EREC or 877-688-3732. For emergency conditions, call 911. Contact Cortney Owens (cowens@erec.com) regarding this monthly publication.

STAY CYBER SMART October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, making it a good time to refresh the habits that help protect your personal information. At EREC, cybersecurity is an important part of providing safe, reliable electric service. We work to protect the systems and information we use to serve our members, including online accounts, payment systems and outage communications. Scammers are becoming more sophisticated, especially with artificial intelligence making it easier to create convincing emails, texts, websites and even voice messages. A scammer may pretend to be EREC and claim your account is past due or your service will be disconnected unless you make an immediate payment. These messages may look professional and even include our logo. If you receive an unexpected or urgent message claiming to be from EREC, don’t click links or call the number provided in the message. Contact us directly at 850675-4521 to verify your account. You can also protect yourself by using long, unique passwords and avoiding the same password for multiple accounts. Most importantly, slow down when a message demands immediate action. Taking a few minutes to verify a request could prevent you from becoming a victim of a scam. EREC is committed to protecting the systems that serve our members, and together we can help keep your information safe.

ATTENTION TEACHERS Looking for a fun way to teach your students about electricity and electrical safety? EREC would love to help! For kindergarten classes, we can visit and read our “Cat and Duck” book to introduce students to electricity in a fun way. Hosting a career day? When available, we can bring a bucket truck and answer questions about careers at an electric cooperative. For grades 3–5, our tabletop Safety City display teaches students how to recognize electrical hazards and stay safe. Request an educational visit online or call us at 850-675-4521. We’d love to visit your classroom!
