The Chick-Fil-A project renovation in the Madison Plaza is moving along and will be opening soon.

Renovations include new flooring, wall coverings, exhaust hoods, a walk-in freezer, new electrical and data wiring, along with new lights and a new ceiling. They will all be completed in the coming weeks. LaGasse Construction is the contractor performing the renovations for this project. The buzz and anticipation is building for the grand opening. Stay tuned for more updates.

FACILITIES ADMINISTRATION SPOTLIGHT

CAMPUS PROJECTS/DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT 930 MADISON, 6TH FLOOR

Rosalie Nelson, Assistant Project Manager Construction is underway on the 6th floor of the 930 Madison for the College of Health Professions. The project will add four new offices, a hallway, storage closet and a renovated kitchen.

Facilities crafts involved in the construction for the new space include plumbers, electricians, HVAC and carpenters.

Good job team!

CUSTODIAL DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT Edwin Jeffres, Custodial Superintendent

“Thank you to Bertha Jones and her team climbed about ten flights of stairs, carrying the 55-pound wet vac used to clean up water that came from a broken condensate tank that flooded the 930 elevator equipment room and caused the elevators to shut down. Thank you also to Shawn Miller, Brian White and Matt Roye from the Electrical department for troubleshooting the electrical problem and resolving that problem.” Ursela Howell, Custodial Supervisor and Dan Hutchinson, Electrical Superintendent

COLD AND WARM PODS PROJECT Jon Rawlinson, Engineer Laura Mooney, Project Manager

The cold and warm pods in the Coleman building, where they study the effect of extreme temperatures on mice, was installed about 18 months ago. They were supposed to keep temperature and humidity within five degrees of where they are set but have never worked properly and are so noisy, work can’t be done and the room had to be modified. Facilities HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, and Carpentry departments all worked together to seal the room airtight, designed and installed a new HVAC system with different equipment that handles humidity better and then showed the vendor how to set their own equipment. It now works as it should. This was indeed a team effort to resolve an issue with an improper design. The team also fixed a leak that was flooding the floor and adjusted the entry doors so that they would be air tight.

Lastly, Jon Rawlinson, facilities engineer, has already designed the ductwork system to address the noise issue and that will be completed in phase two of the project.

FACILITIES PHYSICAL PLANT GETS A MAKEOVER

The Facilities Department is in the early phases of renovations for the Physical Plant Building at 201 East Street. Renovations will include new carpet, fresh painting, ceiling tiles, lighting and more to improve the look and cosmetic appearance throughout the building.

A celebration was held to honor Catherine Reed, custodial foreman as she journeys into retirement. There was a huge turnout for the event held at the O.D. Larry Hall Dining Hall of the SAC building on December 2, 2019. Catherine has worked as a custodial employee for UTHSC for 31 years.

KEY AND LOCK CONTROL MANAGEMENT

Key and lock control management is under Facilities Administration. If you need to turn in, transfer, have new keys issued, or have locksmithing needs do the following: 1) Complete a request form found on the facilities website under the key control tab (https://www. uthsc.edu/facilities/key-control. php).

FACILITIES ANNUAL HR CODE OF CONDUCT TRAINING FACILITATOR: TRACY L. HORTON, HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT

Thank you to Tracy L. Horton, employee relations counselor for training the entire facilities department on HR Policy 0580 - Code of Conduct. This is an annual training and Tracy did an outstanding job of covering the employee’s various shift times.

Thank you to Rebekka Terrell Freeman, employee relations manager and Brandi Martin, employee relations specialist, who attended the trainings as well and answered questions and provided guidance to facilities management and teams.

The policy covers Respect for Persons, Responsible Use of University Resources, Respect for Property, Standards of Attendance and Compliance with Laws and University Policies.
