QUESTIONS
QUESTIONS
What is a fun or little-known fact or talent about yourself? I am a musician. I’ve played piano for 23 years, majored in Music in undergrad, and played at church and weddings. I’ve even had several gigs with my band around Memphis, including Porch Fest and Cooper Young Fest!
Other than being a physician, what previous jobs have you held? I was a nanny, summer camp counselor, domestic violence and sexual assault hotline first responder, and a cook at Five Guys burger and fries. What attracted you to the UTHSC general surgery residency program? The Department of Surgery in Memphis trains excellent surgeons that are able to enter straight into practice or whichever fellowship they choose after residency. Plus, the extensive trauma exposure in Memphis.
What advice do you have for the incoming surgical interns? Take an extra minute to just listen - to the patients to help get the diagnosis, to your nurses as they have a lot to teach you as well, and to your seniors and attendings for many of us remember what it was like to be in your shoes.
What advice do you have for the incoming surgical interns? Always load the boat, you’re never alone, don’t worry it’ll all work out in the end. Don’t lie, but fake it till you make it.
What has been your proudest achievement? I’m proud to have matched into a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
