People from all nationalities joined in on the 18th of March Harmony Day Celebration in Coober Pedy. A day of fun was arranged by Delesh and Ramazan and it couldn’t have been a better day, planned with so many events from junior to adult Soccer to relays and great company from AHCSA Pulyu Blasters.

The message was clearly marked through the bringing together of community together to celebrate such an event. We came together to celebrate as a community the gifts of each other’s cultures and to learn from each other. Harmony Day celebrates the cultural diversity, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone in this great country we call Australia.

Cultural-based activities like those displayed at the harmony day event through traditional food, could lead to many more things to come for future events. Pulyu Blasters provided education to the community with what could be or may be a turntable for some to change dirty habits to healthy habits. It was very informative.

We also won’t forget the amazing event in which our CEO Priscilla Larkins burned grass on the relay event with Umoona Tjutagku Health Service taking out the winning team, thanks to Sarah (AHCSA), Melissa and Sophie.

multicultural event were spoiled for choice when it came to food options, with vendors offering tantalising treats from around the world. Cuisine ranged from Josie’s Jumping Jack Kangaroo Kebabs to Sammi’s hot and spicy Sri Lankan short-eats.

Those with a desire for entertainment were satisfied by the magic local DJ Shan was also a highlight with music pumping through the air. The MC for the day, Drug and Alcohol Manager Monique (whom no one can hold down!) did an awesome job.

The event was visited by the Local Mayor of Coober Pedy who had praised the event as a highlight of people in the community sharing each other’s culture, the love of sports, food and a great atmosphere.

that everything was coordinated prior to the event and on the day.

The day was a great success with a large crowd turnout. UTHS hopes to continue with the event each year, to further promote a healthier community.

Our Objective Our Healthy for Life Program is an Australian Government Program that is aimed at helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to get better health. Trained Aboriginal Health Workers are available to provide guidance and health care with child development, children health, Immunisations child maternal health, men’s health, women’s health, diabetes and management of chronic disease.

DAS hosted a Grief and Loss Workshop facilitated by Family Relationship Centre Australia in March.

It was a great success with attendance by both clients and workers across community organisations.

Program Objectives are to: 

Better the quality of life for chronic and complex illness



Improve the health of mothers, babies and children



Improve the long term health

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with

outcomes for our clients

Reduce the incidence of adult chronic illness over time
