This year there’s already been just over 17,000 reported cases with the majority in QLD and NSW. This is almost six times more than at the same time last year.

So what is flu and how does it differ from the common cold?

Open day was held on the 8th of April 2019.

Clients, agencies and Community Members from all around Coober Pedy participated for this event.

Main Objectives of the open day was to get feedback from the community and to promote ongoing programs in UTHS. UTHSAC strategic plan for 2019 - 2021 was conducted by Dilshan Perera (BSM) on the open day as well.

However, Community members, clients and other agencies were able to raise questions from the program coordinators and health professionals in order to send referrals or join them self with the programs. professionals.

We store your Personal Information both in hard copy format and digitally, on site. All hard copy material is secured onsite. All digital material is secured using password protected computers. We use Communicare for our electronic client data keeping. Any digital transfer of Personal Information is secured.

All confidential documents are securely shredded after storage is no longer necessary.

Records are kept for as long as they have value. In the case of health information, we store this type of information indefinitely, in keeping with the national standards for keeping Aboriginal health records.

UTHSAC uses data storage providers located inside Australia. Where appropriate, UTHSAC has agreements with its storage providers to keep all Personal Information they store secure, using reasonable and appropriate security methods.

8. What about Cookies, pixels and analytics?

When you access our website, we may receive information about you via a ‘cookie’, a ‘pixel’ or from analytics software.

These are tools that our web server may direct your traffic to, send to your computer, or embed on a website, when you visit our website. These tools help us to recognise when you re-visit the website, serve you customised content and to optimize your experience. We generally don’t collect Personal Information through the use of these tools, though we may be able to access your IP address and information about what your computer technology is when using analytical software.

12. What happens if you want to deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym?

When contacting us, you can do so either anonymously or by using a pseudonym.

If you do so, we may not be able to provide you with accurate or useful information, and you may not be able to access a full range of our operations and services. Further, we may not be able to investigate incidents or complaints you have made.

13. Does this policy ever change?

From time to time we may make changes to this Policy. When we do, we will highlight those changes in yellow highlight for a period of 14 days. Please make sure you review the Privacy Policy each time you visit our website to keep up to date on any changes.

MOVIE NIGHT Motive of the movie night is to educate the young generation regarding alcohol and other drugs. An educational session will be conducted before playing the movie.

This event will take place every Friday at DAS. Our main focus will be to cater the younger generation in order to educate them regarding AOD. SAPOL joined with UTHS to enhance this program by adding a healthy cooking program to the kids.

The kids will enjoy the movie and they will be provided a healthy dinner and be

educated regarding the nutrients in the food. In addition we made Art and Craft available to improve the enthusiasm of the children’s participation.

Healthy Living Without Diabetes

Remember to consider age, existing heart, joint or other co-morbidities before

staring any exercise. Third important factor is regularly taking prescribed medications and self-monitoring blood glucose level. Together these 2 serves as a bases for the Doctor to know how well the body is responding to medications. Last but not the least is regular check up with your GP, eye doctor, Podiatrist, Endocrinologist; so as to track any complication in advance and making your life easier.

Diabetes, previously called Sugar illness, is a chronic condition marked by high levels of Glucose within the blood. There are 3 main kinds of diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 and Diabetes during pregnancy diabetes .The prevalence of Diabetes has been escalating over the last three decades, with rates multiplication over this period—diabetes affected around 1.2 million people in 2014–15. Rates are typically higher among males, the older, Indigenous Australians and other people living in remote and

socioeconomically underprivileged areas. Type 2 is that the commonest type, and is basically preventable by maintaining a healthy way.

Diabetes itself is not a disease, but it does gives birth to serious diseases like heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, vision loss and delayed wound healing. These are the reasons that person living with diabetes has to maintain Blood glucose

Type 1 diabetes and Gestational Diabetes (Diabetes during pregnancy) is

managed by insulin Injection. Remember, Insulin is not a punishment. It is there to help the body to meet the demand by external sources. But with life style modifications as stated above dose for insulin can be minimised.

Lastly, to be safer, wear your Diabetic identification bracelet every time. Don’t drive if BGL is less 5mmol/l or more than 15 mmol/l. Always carry Jelly beans or Glucose gel for treating hypoglycaemia. If you have concern or queries regarding Diabetes, speak to your GP or Nurse.

Bush trip to the Breakaways was organized with the participation of AHCSA and the members of the community. Discussed about the importance of peaceful household for mental health. Clients participated in the bush trip enthusiastically.

In the present arena, the incidence of population affecting flu virus has been accelerated to an unprecedented level. Thanks to state funded immunization program which paved a way to fight against the deadly virus.

There are plethora of opportunities for the people in our clinic to get flu vaccination.

Recently there has flu vaccination program conducted last week which rendered the people to get vaccinated which included people of all age group.

Undoubtedly, recent research states that the deaths reported related to influenza virus has reached to its epitome in contrast to previous years.

Various strategies can be implemented to reduce the severity of flu virus. For instance getting yearly flu shots, wearing personal protective equipment while dealing with the community which could deter the outbreak of influenza to a considerable extent. However, there can be situations which cannot be prevented. In such situations it is advisable to drink plenty of hot water, rest and sleep, saline water gargle, steam to prevent further deterioration of infection.

Acknowledging the fact that flu vaccines are effective in fighting against flu virus, we must ensure that each person in our community takes the flu vaccine to keep

the deadly virus at bay. I would like to reiterate that children especially those who are prone more to respiratory infections should be encouraged to get flu shot every year, since influenza can aggravate the respiratory illness.
