Global Value-Based Healthcare Symposium Agenda Keynote Session: The Tipping Point for Value Speaker: Dr. Brent James The move toward value has often been analogized to administrators as having one foot in two canoes, waiting for the right moment to make the leap from the comfort and tradition of fee-for-service to the inevitable landing spot of value. Dr. James explores the investment in value and makes the case that it is an evolution and not a leap. Uncoordinated and unaligned there will be winners and losers. If the financial incentives are aligned, the question becomes not when to leap but how much of care must be in value contracts to create margins sufficient for efficient operations.

Workshop Sessions Session: Transitioning Strategically with Data, Analysis of Two Healthcare Systems Organizer: Brent James, Health Catalyst and others These sessions will be held twice, each with a different healthcare system. An analytic study, conducted prior to and during this session, will identify components of their businesses that have been better able to establish value by exploring, among other things, the cost of delivery and the payer mix by condition. This exploration will attempt to reveal where on the trajectory to value these two systems are and prepare for the 2nd day panel discussion where panelists will recommend whether they have reached the tipping point and/or what their next steps are to get there.

Session: Assessing the Sustainability of a Single-Payer System Organizer/Speaker: Nick Hicks, Oxford University Nick Hicks, MD and entrepreneur, and international colleagues and experts will discuss the value-based issues related to the National Health System from the United Kingdom and other “single payer� systems from around the globe. At the forefront will be the sustainability of their systems and the effort to reduce costs and improve quality through a value-based focus. In the wake of a national discussion in the U.S. about Medicare-for-All, this will be a particularly relevant and important contribution to a broader understanding to the U.S. movement towards value.

Session: U.S. Political Update and Impacts on Healthcare Speaker: Vince Ventimiglia, Leavitt Partners Leavitt Partners and its team of Washington, D.C. experts will prepare you to understand the political lay of the land. By May 12, 2020 the bulk of the primaries and caucuses for the Democratic Party nomination will be done, but it is possible no nominee will yet be known. Regardless, polls will begin to reveal data to allow us to track uncertainties and prepare for certainty with enhanced precision. We will examine in the detail the state of play in the presidential, house, and senate races and explore the likely outcomes and scenarios. The results in each of those races will determine the agenda, the risks and the opportunities for healthcare in the succeeding years.

Additionally, we will review the impact of the election on Medicaid, value-based payment, digital health, public health and research, the social determinants of health, tax issues, commercial insurance, and issues related to the FDA.

Panel Session: Panel Analysis of Healthcare Systems Panel Members: TBA Expert panelists will review the results from the analysis of 2 healthcare systems. This exploration will reveal where on the trajectory to value these two systems are and recommendations regarding whether they have reached the tipping point and/or what are their next steps to get there.

Session: Panel Discussion on Value-Based Healthcare Panel Members: TBA Join the conversation with experts in their field about where they see the future of valued-based healthcare going. What are the next steps? What is in our way to providing a better healthcare system? This panel will summarize and bring insight in from the sessions we learned from throughout the symposium and help us connect the pieces together for the future of healthcare.
