Fall Protection for the Competent Person 24 Hours | $650

Contract | $8,500

This 3-day course is designed for personnel who may be designated as the Competent Person by their employer for typical construction-related activities involving working at height. It is also recommended for any construction, maintenance, or supervisory personnel who use fall prevention and/or protection equipment and systems or who will be responsible for safety at their job sites where fall hazards exist. Topics include: fall hazard recognition, evaluation, and control; construction exposures and applications; detailed review of fall protection regulations and requirements; hierarchy of fall protection systems; fall hazard evaluation; eliminating and controlling fall hazards; Aerial Lifts and ladders; developing and maintaining a managed fall protection program; conducting fall hazard surveys and inspections; fall prevention and protection equipment and system selection and use; and incident investigations. Training includes active participation with hands-on activities and demonstrations.

This course satisfies the training prerequisite for the Authorized Trainer Program designation in Fall Protection.

Prerequisites: OSHA #500 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction, OSHA #501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry, or ATP 191 Safety & Health Authorized Trainer. This course satisfies the requirements of OSHA, ANSI, and USACE 385-1-1.

Refresher training: Competent Persons are required to attend update training at least every two (2) years to stay current with fall protection and rescue educational industry requirements IAW ANSI Z359.2. The update course CPT 101O is now available online.

UTA OSHA Outreach Program Join the growing family of UTA OSHA Outreach Trainers by taking an OSHA Outreach Trainer or OSHA Outreach Trainer Update class with us.

The United States Department of Labor OSHA Outreach Training Program provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces.

The program also provides information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. This is a voluntary program and does not meet training requirements for any OSHA standards. The primary purpose of the OSHA 10- and 30-Hour Outreach Training programs is to educate workers about safety and health hazards they may encounter on the job. The 10-hour classes are designed for entry-level workers, while the 30-hour classes are aimed at supervisors and those with some safety responsibilities.

This course focuses on the operations and safety aspects of excavation and trenching.

Participants are introduced to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored/unshored slopes and walls. Various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic) are explained. This course provides comprehensive training on the hazards associated with H2S and their required protective measures. Participants will learn the properties and characteristics, respiratory protection requirements, gas detection, emergency response, and current H2S technology. Hands-on exercises and equipment demonstrations are included. The requirements in the ANSI Z390.1, Accepted Practices for Hydrogen Sulfide Training, American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practices, and Federal H2S regulatory standards are also covered.
