this was the first year in which there has been such a court in school,

the court was looked upon at first as more of an experiment anything

else. However,

It was one of the most difficult plays ever produced in Carbon High. This was because it was based more on psychologica, conditions than on the usual situations and events. It was a very interesting play to work on and under the able direction of Miss Tuttle the play was performed in a very creditable manner.

During the school year two oratorical contests were held, one of which was sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution, and the other, the annual Constitutional contest, conducted and supported

by The Salt Lake Tribune.

These contests are held to instill patriotism and respect for our nation's history, and to keep in the minds of the students the ideals which characterize our democracy.

The orations this year were of the best, the LUCILLE TUTTLE topics being selected before hand by the sponSup erv isor sors themselves.

Those participating in the contest were Frank Gorishek, Christine Axelgard, Naida Littlejohn, Erma Christensen, Frances Seaton, and Katherine Dart. Those taking part in the Constitutional Contest were Loa Davidson and Reed Adams.

' CLEVER!

Have you ever been carried away from your present surroundings

to lands

of mystery and romance? So it was at the annual Junior Promenade of the C. C. H. S. given at the Sil vermoon Ballroom, February 2 7, 19 3 1. The scheme of decoration was a Japanese Garden that made one really feel as if he was in the land of cherry blossoms.

Hundreds of lavender and purple w1stenas hung from the ceiling. Many butterflies were fluttering around 'the ceiling, while thousands of Japanese Tea roses covered arch ways around the hall. At one end of the hall was a large clock which we kept going by a real Japanese boy to remind us which dance was taking place. The orchestra was seated behind a ·Japanese leaded curtain.

The lights were turned out at 11: 3 0 and from a volcano Juniors and their partners came forth carrying large sparklers. They ended their promenade with a large "J." We were entertained with a Japanese dance by four Japanese girls and boys. With the help of the advisor, Mr. Olson, class officers, and the prom committee it was the most delightful occasion of the year and the most clever prom in the history of our Alma Mater.

Football FTER weeks of trammg, Carbon's pigskin squad started its drive for the state championship.

It was said that Carbon's team had made an improvement over last year's team, although many were lost by graduation.

Ineligibilities too, hampered the squad.

Verdell Pace, who was declared ineligible after the team had played its first game, was one of the most aggressive backs Carbon has ever had.

The first game was played with Provo High School.

The Miners thundered down upon . their foes. This game showed some of the team's weakness. The front wall tumbled down, so the barrier had to be strengthened.

The Giants from Utah county could not be held. The backfield showed a neat defensive game.

The Saints were easily crushed by the avalanche that struck them in the third quarter.

Wasatch Academy came next in the continuation of practice games. They were defeated.

26-The Freshmen started the Thanksgiving holidays right by giving a clever and snappy assembly.

The Pep gave a matinee dance in the gym at 2:30. We adjourned for Thanksgiving holidays.

DEC. 5-The Junior Party was held in the gym at 8 o'clock. The hall was decorated with the class's graduating number on flags and with a block "C" in the center. The Juniors can be complimented for giving a fine dance.

MAR. 5-News comes that Carbon beat Roosevelt by a 3 0-29 score. It look s like tournament honors for us this year.

MAR. 6-Again victorious.

We defeated Green River by a 45-22 score. Tomorrow night we clash with Vernal.

MAR. 7-Carbon beat Vernal. That was the glad tidings received by Carbon students who did not go to Vernal.

Carbon captured the Round Robin Tournament bunting by defeating Vernal 21-29.

MAR. 9-A short pep assembly was held and the trophy's. Let's hope we can get another trophy next year.

MAR I I-The Pep and Senate had a matinee dance. Not a very large crowd attended and the profits were small.

A Senior meeting was held and it was decided that the students would not wear caps and gowns for graduation. The first ·showing of the Opera was given. The assembly was packed with students.

The parts were very well taken arid the Opera was considered one of the best Carbon has ever given.

Calendar MAR. 13-Friday 13 is considered an un lucky day by many and such it was for the Tri-boys. The Tri-bo ys put up a gallant fight but lost their challenge game to the Senators by a 2124 score. The school finals for the National Oratorical Contest was held which was won by Reed Adams.
