It seems that summer has finally arrived in Southern California! I trust that you are all enjoying the weather that we have been anxiously waiting for. By now summer camps are in full swing and you are all grinding out the days on the court and loving every minute of it! While you are all working tirelessly on the court, your USPTA Southen California board of directors have been working hard to solidify the 2019 division conference. This year we are excited to return to SeaCliff Country Club again on October 19-20. The weekend will feature some of the best in our industry and we are so excited to announce that Tracy Austin will be our featured speaker. As you all know Tracy is not only an accomplished player, but also a very talented and top-producing coach. We are thrilled to have her in our line-up. Also joining the team will be Mark Bey, Don Henson, Jeff Salzenstein, Milo Bryant and many other industry experts. Registration information will be available in August so keep your eyes open and the date saved. While we are talking conferences; we hope to see you all in Las Vegas for the 2019 World Conference. The dates for this year are September 22-26 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. The speaker line-up is top-notch and includes Andre Agassi! Also featured are some of your local Southern California and San Diego professionals, Sarah Stone, Don Henson and Amanda Fink, just to name a few. The division party will be Tuesday, September 24 and we hope to see many of you there. Lots of things are happening in the very near future for you in the District 1 you may want to save the dates and join us. Our District is the largest spanning district in the entire National USPTA. It runs from the Ventura/Lost Angeles County line all the way to parts North of San Luis Obispo.
The next event coming up is the World Conference in Last Vegas. It runs from September 24-27 See articles in this newsletter. It goes East Coast to West Coast every year, so don't miss this year a this close and fun Venue. Las Vegas. Again, take a USPTA buddy with you to split a room and get those education points. The next event is October 19-20 at Sea Cliff Country Club in Huntington Beach. It is our annual So Cal So Cal Conference and awards banquet. There will be many fantastic speakers that will give you an excellent eclectic educational experience that you can take to your lessons on Day 1 back at your club. You will also accumulate those necessary education points needed to keep your certification. The last event in District 1 will be Monday October 28 where we will have Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Champion John Austin give a brief 1 hour workshop after we play 9 holes of golf at the recently remodeled golf course at Los Robles in Thousand Oaks. You will get a cart and lunch. If you don't have golf clubs, we will rent you a set. It will run from 9:30am till 1pm. Come earlier to hit a small bucket of balls to warm up. Take the day off from work to net work, have fun, get educational points, and meet a fellow local member who was a world class Grand Slam champion at a personal level. District 2 Happenings Greetings District 2! Our next get together will be on September 16 here at The Paseo Club. We will have some on court time and a round table on how to make yourself more valuable to your club. We will have some food and drinks at the end. As we approach the USPTA Convention on October 19 and 20, I hope all of you are making plans to attend. I understand how busy we all are and I watch as clubs disappear and deals for pros get worse and worse. Our strength is in numbers and the USPTA is our tool to help us have careers that earn more money, have more benefits and give us a chance at retiring at some point with some financial security. To do that, we have to lead the way to make sure we are educated, can provide value to clubs to thrive and in return, make a great living! The Convention will offer some great seminars, but more importantly, it gives us all a chance to get together and share some best practices, see what other pros are doing and find ways to make ourselves more valuable to our clubs and tennis facilities. The more tennis grows, the better it will be for all of us!

District 5 Happenings From Pasadena to Temecula, District 5 teaching pros have been very busy promoting tennis in their local communities. Recently, several pros led their kids to sectional berths at the SoCal Junior Team Tennis Sectional Playoffs at Barnes Tennis Center. Our next USPTA District 5 Workshop will be held on Sunday, September 22nd in Riverside, CA at Andulka Park Tennis Center. Presenters and topics TBA soon!
Newly certified pro, Lily Mitchell, guided her 10 & under Junior team tennis team to sectionals at Barnes Tennis Center. The 18 & under Victoria Country Club girls team also qualified for sectionals after winning their league. Director of Tennis and USPTA Pro, Marty Montigel, coached the girls to their 4th consecutive sectionals appearance. USPTA Elite Pro, Tony Chatfield, who serves as our district Tennis Service Representative from SCTA, and teaches at Spring Valley Lakes Country Club in Victorville, is coordinating with the county of San Bernardino’s Child and Family services to promote the 13th Annual Sports Faire on Saturday, June 22nd. This event will offer free tennis clinics as well other sports, specifically, for foster kids; this event will take place at Carter High School in Rialto, CA. *Please submit any updates from your area by the 10th of each month to Evan Parry at evan@andulkatennis.com so they can be included in the monthly newsletter*

District 6 Happenings Tip of the Month: Improve Your Ball Toss On The Serve! No doubt the ball placement on the serve is one of the most difficult skills to master. In this lesson, USPTA Elite Professional John Craig provides a comprehensive lesson covering virtually every technical element of the ball placement!
Sage Hills High School Achieves Athletic Milestone! Congratulations to Sage Hill High School, who defeated Beckman High School to cap it’s undefeated boys' tennis season with CIF Division 1 title! Sage Hill (19-0), the San Joaquin League champion, is the first Sage Hill team in any sport to win a Division 1 championship. It was an unlikely run to the title for the Lightning, who were unseeded. But they were also unmatched in their five-match run to the title, in terms of their singles strength. Emin Torlic, bound for Loyola Marymount University, went 14-1 in singles in the postseason. He swept 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 on Friday. Senior Steven Ferry, who will play at Chapman University, swept 6-0, 6-3, 6-1 and also went 14-1 during the CIF run. And junior Rohun Krishnan, who swept 6-0, 64, 6-2 against Beckman, went 13-2. “We had really strong players at the top, and they were awesome all season,” first-year Sage Hill coach Whit Kenerson said. “They’re very solid tournament players, very capable of playing in college … I was surprised [with Friday’s 13-5 score]. I thought it would be really close, but our doubles played well today. Our doubles won a couple of big sets right off the top, which put the pressure on them.”
