Seeds of the future A legacy that lasts
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34
Introduction
WHY LEGACY GIVING MATTERS We often think of a legacy as something we leave behind. But I see it as something we send ahead; a seed of hope planted for tomorrow. A gift in your Will is not simply a financial decision; it is a spiritual one. It says: I believe in the mission of the global Church. I believe that the love of Christ can transform communities. And I want to be part of that transformation, even beyond my lifetime. These gifts are a lifeline. They give us the flexibility to act quickly when disaster strikes, and the stability to invest in the slow, faithful work of leadership formation, community building, and cross-cultural understanding.
Dear Friends, When I travel across the Anglican Communion, from rural communities in Tanzania to bustling cities in South Asia, I am struck time and again by the extraordinary dedication of local churches. These are communities of faith responding daily to the needs around them: offering education to children who would otherwise miss out, running health clinics in remote villages, advocating for justice where voices are silenced, and proclaiming the hope of the Gospel in both word and deed. At USPG, we are privileged to walk alongside these churches, offering partnership, encouragement, and resources. It is work rooted in our history but even more so in our future. And that future depends, in no small part, on people like you who share our vision of a world where every community can flourish in dignity, peace, and hope. 2
FAITH IN ACTION, FOR GENERATIONS TO COME As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us, not only for the needs of today but for the generations to come. When you leave a gift in your Will to USPG, you join a long line of faithful supporters whose generosity has shaped our mission since 1701. Many of them never sought recognition, but their faith and foresight have made it possible for USPG to continue walking with the global Church through centuries of change and challenge. Your legacy will be part of that story.
AN INVITATION I would like to invite you to prayerfully consider including USPG in your Will after you have provided for your loved ones. Above all, I want you to know that every legacy gift, no matter the size, is received with gratitude, used with care, and treasured as a sign of hope and faith. Together, we can ensure that the light of Christ continues to shine in communities across the globe, bringing life, justice, and joy for generations yet to come. With my deepest thanks and every blessing, The Revd Canon Dr Duncan Dormor, General Secretary, USPG
Your Faith. Your Values.

For over 300 years, USPG has walked alongside Anglican churches worldwide, building relationships that transcend borders and generations. Together, we have helped communities to flourish: supporting health clinics that bring healing in remote villages, establishing schools that open doors to opportunity, training leaders who speak truth to power, and standing in solidarity with those whose lives have been shattered by crisis, poverty, and injustice. 4
Why Leave a Legacy Gift? LIVE OUT YOUR FAITH LONG-TERM
CHAMPIONING JUSTICE
Your legacy becomes a spiritual footprint, shaping the Church’s response to justice and compassion for generations.
We accompany churches of the Anglican Communion in their struggles against injustices associated with gender, climate change, migration, the human rights of indigenous people and inter-religious living. We support Christians across the world to form communities of hope and resistance, and we strive to give a platform to the faithful among those with power in the secular world
RETHINKING MISSION
We bring people together from different parts of the global church in mutually enriching conversation and profound encounters, to increase understanding and deepen our discipleship as intercultural Christians.
TRANSFORM LIVES
ENERGISING CHURCH
Support theological education, health initiatives, and disaster recovery projects in under-resourced regions.
We make connections between the dioceses of the Churches of Britain and Ireland and those overseas and we seek ways in which faith and action can go hand-in-hand. We look to strengthen the unity and capacity of the Anglican Church by promoting education and leadership, by learning from each other in rich exchange.
EMPOWER FUTURE LEADERS
Fund leadership programmes like the Emerging Leaders Academy, giving young Anglican voices the training and mentoring they need.
Testimonial: BISHOP MICHAEL DOE “For us, leaving a legacy is about ensuring that our Christian discipleship continues beyond our lifetime. Throughout our lives we have supported God’s mission where we have seen it lived out in the Church, and we want that to carry on after we are gone. Christian stewardship teaches us to give in proportion to what we have received – not just a token, but a gift that enables the next generation to continue the work of mission. We have chosen to include USPG in our Will because God has called us into his world Church, and USPG brings that global Church alive. Through genuine partnerships across the Anglican Communion, USPG unites prayer, worship and faith-sharing with medical and educational work, and the struggle for justice and social change. That is the kind of mission we want our legacy to sustain.”

Your legacy can help support the women and girls of India, who face the devastation that human trafficking has had on them and the communities they live in. The Rt Revd Sameer Khimla, Bishop of the Diocese of Durgapur, shares a story of a young woman in the local area. She had an abusive upbringing and had been married off at a young age to a much older man. The marriage was abusive and she in turn was sold into the sex trade by her husband. A team from the Diocese of Durgapur was able to work with local authorities to locate her and managed to bring her home. Even though she is now safe, her journey ahead will not be easy. However, she is doing well and has started skills training provided by the Church of North India with the view to support herself long-term This is one of the most powerful ways you can ensure that the global Church remains rooted in prayer, rich in compassion, and fearless in service, speaking into the urgent challenges of our time with the light and love of Christ. 6
y r o t S l a Re t c a p m I of Margaret was a lifelong supporter of USPG. She had a heart for global mission and left a gift in her Will to support the Church in Sri Lanka. After the devastating tsunami in 2004, Margaret’s legacy helped rebuild a church school in the Diocese of Colombo. That school now offers a safe and loving learning environment to hundreds of children each year. Her legacy lives on in the lives of young people shaped by education, faith, and hope.
A gift in your Will to USPG is more than a donation. It is a declaration of hope. 7

The Preventing Mother to Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT) Programme aims to prevent the infection of HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancies in women who are HIV-positive and the transmission of HIV from mothers to children. The programme also provides support and care for families, children and mothers who are HIV-positive and helps to reduce HIV-stigma through sensitisation meetings.
Jemima* is 23 years old and a single parent from Mkuzi village, Muheza District, Tanga region. On her first visit to the health clinic at Muheza Mission Hospital, she underwent routine services including counselling and testing for HIV. Jemima tested positive for HIV and was registered as a PMTCT client and started treatment straightaway. Following this, Jemima began to isolate herself, often staying at home and avoiding social interactions – even with her relatives – out of fear that they might discover her HIV status and share it with others. Now Jemima has a two-year-old baby who is free from HIV as a result of PMTCT interventions carried out by the programme team. She said, “I was never aware of feelings of selfstigmatisation until I experienced them. It is like living in darkness. Thanks to the PMTCT Programme and the priest I was guided out of that darkness into the light.” *name changed

How to Leave a Gift Leaving a gift in your Will is simpler than many people think, and it can be one of the most transformative acts of generosity you ever make. After you have provided for your loved ones, you can choose to bless future generations by remembering USPG in your Will. Your gift will help ensure that the global Church continues to grow in faith, compassion, and courage, paving the way for the Kingdom of God to grow. You can remember USPG in several ways:
A SHARE OF YOUR ESTATE (RESIDUARY GIFT) After other gifts and expenses have been paid, you can leave a percentage of what remains to USPG. This ensures your loved ones are cared for first, while still creating a lasting legacy for the Church’s mission.
A FIXED AMOUNT OF MONEY (PECUNIARY GIFT) A specific sum, large or small, can make a tangible difference, from funding vital theological training to supporting health programmes in vulnerable communities.
A SPECIFIC ITEM You might choose to leave property, shares, or other valuable possessions. These can be sold to support USPG’s work, turning your assets into life-changing mission opportunities.
A REVERSIONARY GIFT This allows you to leave something to USPG only after other named beneficiaries have been cared for during their lifetime, providing both security for loved ones and a gift for the Church’s future. No matter the size or type of gift, your legacy will be a seed of hope. Planted today, bearing fruit for years to come in communities across the Anglican Communion
Every gift, large or small, makes a meaningful difference and is a seed of hope for the future of the Church. 10
Your Legacy Could Help Us To: Respond to humanitarian crises and natural disasters • Improve access to health care, education, and safe spaces • Advance justice and peace through faith-led partnerships • Sustain long-term, global Church relationships grounded in prayer • Train and support clergy and lay leaders across the world
