2022 Sale Launches 2025 Pot O’Gold Contest

The2025 Pot O’Gold Production Contest got underway on November 4, 2022, when 23 lots were auctioned in the 65th Pot O’Gold Sale. Held in conjunction with All American events in Louisville, Ky., the sale posted an average of $3,310.87 and a gross of $76,150. Seventeen percent of the gross—$12,945.50—will be set aside for the “pot” for owners of the 22 heifers that complete the top first lactation records based on product value.

At this year’s sale, the sister team of Ava and Ella Hughes of Rio, Wis., purchased the high seller, JX Ahlem Go On Buttons 63335 {5} for $4,900. The eight-monthold daughter of JX Sexing Berrara Go On {4}-ET, GJPI +106, is from the “Buttons” family developed by consignor, Ahlem Farms Partnership, Hilmar, Calif.

“Buttons 63335 {5}” has Genomic Predicted Transmitting Abilities (GPTAs) of +467M, +44F (+0.10%) and +24P (+0.03%). She is +5.2 for Productive Life (PL), +1.7 for Type, and +1.14 for Health Trait Index (HTI). She has a Genomic Jersey Performance Index (GJPI) of +117.

Quick Milk Offered at Ohio Fall Production Sale

Jersey breeders looking to fill the tank this fall found Registered Jerseys ready to work at the Ohio Fall Production Sale. The 109 lots sold on October 22, 2022, at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, Ohio, were struck off for an average of $1,375.46. All but 22 were milking cows or close-up springers. Twenty-one dairy producers from 10 states made purchases, with two volume buyers purchasing by the truckload. Gary McGibbon of Crouse, N.C., purchased 43 head for $63,450 while Thomas Brogle of Hustonville, Ky., took home 14 lots for $12,375.
