EDUCATIONAL DESIGN
& TECHNOLOGY
The Educational Design & Technology (EDT) team for the USF College of Nursing is composed of credentialed educators and digital experts in instructional design and delivery. EDT helps faculty create rich learning experiences and supports staff with their initiatives by applying research and best practices and using proven strategies through their offered services. Some examples of projects the EDT team has completed include the following:
• Providing best practices, online learning standards, and cases to design high-impact, quality courses and digital assets
• Guiding faculty in leveraging Canvas and other instructional technologies to achieve educational goals
• Creating podcasts with accompanying interactive workbooks
• Repurposing retired exam questions into live virtual quizzes and self-paced games
• Transforming PowerPoint lectures into interactive video quizzes with feedback
• Developing interactive case studies that assess the learners’ clinical reasoning skills
• Creating an importable web-based
APA module that provides the latest
APA guidelines
• Formatting and enhancing grant proposals (for example, developing charts and figures) • Transforming onboarding checklists into interactive online learning modules
• Consulting with clinical partners to create and facilitate poster presentations at conferences
• Providing strategies on how to use Microsoft Teams to conduct mini-conference type activities
In addition to designing content for traditional courses, the EDT continued to collaborate with faculty and staff to develop special projects. EDT was instrumental in the development of the Frontline Nursing Program and currently produces all of the monthly podcasts. The Frontline Nursing Program has awarded 528 CE units to 710 nurses in four countries and 32 US states. Five podcasts have been developed, and there have been 827 downloads internationally as shown below.

Service to College of Nursing Faculty and Staff
EDT supports the College of Nursing with use of educational technologies. The EDT team employed various strategies to identify the needs within the College and developed resources to meet those needs. This included enhancing their current services, contributing to the monthly Academic Affairs Bulletin, serving on committees, offering 14 webinars, and creating numerous instructional resources. On average, 26 people attended the webinars and topics, which included using Microsoft Teams, Canvas, and teaching and learning pedagogy.
In addition to training, EDT provides direct assistance to faculty and staff who have issues related to educational technologies. To ensure needs are met, the EDT has leveraged technology to present information via multiple channels of communication (including through chat, webinars, council meetings, and email). The most common technologies that EDT has supported have included Canvas, Microsoft Teams, Blackboard Collaborate, Proctorio, and Turnitin. The charts shown below provide a summary of the 417 support requests by month and by topic.

Notable Accomplishments
In Summer 2020, the EDT reimagined their team and services by widening the scope of services and developing a website to provide a front-facing resource for the College. The Menu of Services provides faculty and staff à la carte opportunities. Some of these new opportunities have included eLearning development (including infographics, podcasts, and consultative services) and training and development (including webinars and learning strategy consultations). The Team also leveraged Design Tools, a product of Cidi Labs, and developed a refreshed and elevated homepage template for all Canvas courses. The new and improved homepage was launched with the Spring 2021 courses.
To further increase efficiencies across the college, the Team revamped key processes, including the course development process and project management system.
Scholarly Work
As the Team expanded their offerings, they sought out scholarship as an additional way to contribute to the mission and goals of the College. The Team has supported faculty and staff in these endeavors and has been involved in 12 abstract/poster submissions, publications, and conference presentations. In addition, they have presented and co-presented with faculty at state and national conferences and have written manuscripts intended for publication.
