94.5 KCFS Hello everybody!
It’s great to be back for another semester here at 94.5 KCFS. This time around it’s a little different for me personally since it’s my final semester at USF. I can’t thank everybody involved at the radio station enough for all their guidance and assistance over the years. I would especially like to thank Gerry Schlenker for giving me a chance here. It truly means the world to me. Also a major shout out to all of the other DJs for their continued dedication to make the station the best it possibly can be. I want this semester to be our best one yet. Lots of shows will be returning and some new ones will be making their way to our lineup as well. Donut Hippo, the ILLZ show, Awkward Transition Friday, the Red show, the Ry Guy show, the Tanner Show, Power Play, Local Music Hour, Happy Hipster and the Best Dan Radio Show are just a few shows making their return. My goal is to make each semester more ambitious and exciting than the last and my final semester here is no exception. Let’s make this year an amazing one to remember! Thank you to everyone for listening to the shows and your never-ending support. It means more than you’ll ever know. All the best, Zach Dresch KCFS Station Manger

“You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” is a USF event hopefully you didn’t miss! Hard work is paying off as students showcase their singing, dancing, and acting skills in the Meredith Auditorium. Jada Plath, who plays the part of Lucy in the musical is excited about the performance. “I was told to look up facts about her on the Internet,” Plath says. “Jaren told me right away, ‘Don’t play her like everybody else does’ which is mean and screechy and loud. And I thought that was kind of starting at square one because that’s who Lucy is.” Plath and her colleagues performed for the public Thursday, March 5th through Sunday, March 9th in the Jeschke Fine Arts building.

New Beginnings For USF Women’s Soccer Story by Evan Gentry | Photos by Dave Eggen, Inertia
Following a 2-15-1 season in 2014, Brittany Goosen was named the head coach of the women’s soccer program at USF in November of 2014.
call a bunch of club coaches.” This was her first step in forming her 2015 season team. Goosen says, “17 girls on a roster is not enough to compete in this league throughout the season.”
Goosen plans to help foster a new era for the program. She refuses to set any team goals until she has all of her 2015 season team here on campus. Goosen believes in the idea of “focusing individually” before setting team goals. Goosen states that her biggest challenge will be to form a 25-woman roster for this coming fall.
Understanding that change takes more than a single season, Goosen says “I don’t want to say we will only be successful if we are at .500.” She believes individual success is just as, if not more, important as team success.
“The first thing I did,” says Goosen “ was get on the phone and

Student Senate News by Lauren Nelson | Student Senate President
What a year this has been for Student Senate thus far! Student Senate spent almost the entire fall semester in discussion about how to improve Student Senate and give more students the opportunity to participate in leadership. For months, Student Senate discussed ways to be more representative of the student body as a whole. As a result of Student Senate’s deliberations and efforts, a brand new form of Student Government has been created and is currently being implemented at USF. Under this new form of Student Government, anybody involved in Student Senate, Cougar Activities Board (CAB), or the brand new Campus Ministries board is a member of Student Government. We believe that by creating a Student Government with specific boards, more people can be involved in leadership and spend time doing exactly what they’re passionate about. This new model of Student Government at USF means that there are many opportunities for students to be involved in Student Government. Keep an eye open later this spring for Student Senate elections; there are five Senate spots
available for each grade on Senate. Student Senate needs people that care about the USF campus and the satisfaction of USF students. People who have ideas of how campus could be improved and want the means to make a difference should run for Student Senate! The Campus Ministries board is the perfect fit for those interested in ministry and service opportunities on campus and in the community of Sioux Falls. Campus Activities Board has filled its positions for leadership, but is always open to suggestions from students with ideas of campus activities that other USF students would enjoy. There are many ways for all types of students to get involved in leadership on campus. If you have a passion for leadership or think you want to try leadership, get involved in Student Government! Have a great spring semester, Cougars!

Hometown: Sioux Falls, SD Major: Communication Studies/ Theatre What brought you to USF? “Well, I didn’t want to leave Sioux Falls just yet, I wasn’t quite ready, and I heard that USF was a good community, and KCFS, USF’s radio station really appealed to me as well.” What made you decide to become a theatre major? “In all honesty, I’m terrible at every subject in school. I feel like I do better at performance-based activities as opposed to scholastic endeavors. What sparked your interest in theatre? “I grew up watching Saturday Night Live, to me that was the ultimate job to have. You get paid to make people laugh. It seemed like the best possible job for me, and that’s why I want to pursue theatre.” Who are your favorite cast members from Saturday Night Live? “(Sweats profusely trying to decide) For actors it would have to be Will Farrell at number 1, Chris Farley at number 2, and Eddie Murphy at 3. Choosing actresses is a little more tough, but I’d have to go with Kristin Wiig at number 1, Amy Poehler at 2, and Gilda Radner at 3.” Can you tell us about your pursuits and experiences in stand up comedy? “Well, if I’m being honest, I was sort of dared to do it. Friends of mine said, “hey dude, give this a shot,” and it was at an open mic night at the American College Theatre Festival, in Lincoln, NE.

Can you tell us about your progress as a stand up comedian? “I do it every week at ‘Rookies Comedy Club’ at their open mic nights on Thursday evenings at 9:30. It’s amazing to see how the comedy scene in Sioux Falls has begun to grow. The audience grows each night, filling up the entire club.” Have you been recognized around the area? “A couple of times, yeah. People will recognize me when I’m working at Hy-Vee. They’ll say stuff like, “Wait, you’re the guy who does stand up, right?” It’s just the little things that make my day. I’ve been getting to know the other comedians in town as well, and we all help each other out by giving each other ideas. It’s a very collaborative community.”
Who is your favorite stand up comedian and why? “Probably Demetri Martin, because he perfectly bridges the gap between quirky-weird comedian, and relatable as well.” What’s your plans after graduating from USF? “Save money working in Sioux Falls, until I save enough money to move to a big city where I can advance my comedy career whether it be joining a sketch comedy troupe, or just doing stand-up. My dream job is working for Saturday Night Live, big shock, I know.”
