WELCOME NEMIROVSKY RESIDENTS Welcome to your new home in Nemirovsky Residential College! We are incredibly excited to welcome you into this newly established residential college in the beautiful USC Village. We hope you are looking forward to meeting and living among 150 of your peers in this vibrant, prideful and scholarly living-learning community. With diverse programming opportunities, faculty and staff support, and a community of second-year USC students as your neighbors, we’re confident that you’ll feel at home in no time!

Nemirovsky Residential College has a focus on sustainability. USC’s sustainability community is an interdisciplinary society of students who are dedicated to building awareness around the principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability through green living practices, educational activities, and societal engagement. Members vow to live a lifestyle that attempts to reduce their individual use of natural resources and lessen their impact on the greater earth, while building their own knowledge and leadership capabilities to address the challenges facing our communities across local and global scales.

CARDINAL & GOLD EVENTS Cardinal & Gold events take place every Friday and Saturday night and are free to all residential students. There are activities and outings for every interest – from feature film screenings in McCarthy Quad to evening hikes in Griffith Park to concerts at LA Live. Be on the lookout for the weekly schedule of events in the Fall!

Each BG is comprised of five core elected positions (President, Advocacy Chair, Community Outreach Chair, Funding Chair, and Programming Chair) and multiple supporting roles (including Floor Senators, Intramural Chairs, Advertising Coordinators, Inclusion Chair, and Eco Rep). Faculty in Residence

Broderick Leaks

Broderick provides psychotherapy to the student population at USC, in addition to providing training and supervision to doctoral psychology trainees. He facilitates a weekly Diversity Dialogues seminar that aims to create a space for the trainees to explore their own cultural identity and its impact on their clinical work. Broderick also teaches a USC freshman seminar course, Foundations at Self, that explores identity development, leadership, and cultural analysis with an emphasis on the African American male experience. In addition, he was the former Student Counseling Services’ liaison for the USC Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs (CBCSA) and previously served as a liaison and supervisor for the USC Asian Pacific American Student Services (APASS) Peer Mentor Program. He received his BA in psychology from Baylor University, a MA in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a MA and PhD in clinical psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary’s Graduate School of Psychology.

Tyler Benateigha

Debra Allen received her master’s in higher education and student affairs from Ohio State University and her bachelor’s in anthropology and modern languages at Beloit College. Her student affairs experience spans residence life, international education, student union programming, leadership development, honors and scholar programs, service-learning, and social justice work. She spent several years working at Ohio State and most recently comes to USC from Cal State Northridge, where she worked as a senior community director for six years. At Cal State Northridge, she focused on the first-year experience living learning community and managed the residential students’ community center. She has also been an active member of the Western Association of College and University Housing Officers since 2010. In her spare time, Allen likes to go on hikes and bike rides with her pup Pete, attend live music venues, go to the beach, and explore her hometown of Los Angeles.

Tyler Benateigha was born in Santa Barbara, California and raised in Longmont, Colorado. He received his undergraduate degree in history from Colorado State University, and his master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from the University of Connecticut. While at UConn, he served as assistant residence hall director and worked in academic advising and with a service learning program called Husky Sport. He is excited to help create a Residential College experience where students feel like they belong and can be successful, and looks forward to exploring, meeting new people, and welcoming students to the USC Village. In his free time, Benateigha enjoys spending time with his partner and his dog – both of whom will be living with him at USC. He also loves playing sports. His favorite is volleyball, but he also like football, ultimate Frisbee, and bowling. His other passions include puns, pizza, guacamole, secret handshakes, dancing, reading, and video games.

GET INVOLVED WITH RESIDENTIAL STUDENT GOVERNMENT Residential Student Government serves all students who live in University housing by enhancing their residential experience at USC. RSG consists of representatives from each Residential College, making up six boards: President, Advocacy, Community Outreach, Funding, Programming, Social Justice & Inclusion. One of the largest organizations on campus, RSG is a voice to build community, empower residents and promote leadership development.
