Immerse yourself in Hispanic culture at USCB SumĂŠrgete en la cultura hispana en USCB Are you a heritage Spanish speaker who would like to explore your Hispanic culture and enhance your Spanish writing skills while earning your degree?

USCB offers a special major designed for Spanish heritage speakers. Students in this degree program explore the literature and cultural history of Latin America and Spain and strengthen their Spanish writing skills.

By placing out of basic language courses, many Spanish Heritage majors often choose a double major, earning a professional degree that enables them to transition directly into the workforce—in the same amount of time other students earn a single degree.

James Griesse, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Spanish James Griesse earned his Ph.D. in Spanish American literature at the Catholic University of America (Washington, D.C.) He has traveled to and studied in several Latin American countries, including Mexico, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Cuba.

Dr. Griesse studied for an academic year in Puebla, Mexico, and for a trimester in Salamanca, Spain.

His research focuses on postmodernism, postcolonial theory, and literary representations of utopias and dystopias in contemporary Latin American fiction.

Dr. Griesse joined USCB in 2008; he teaches courses in Spanish language and Spanish American literature.
