Representative Bill Herbkersman becomes “Honorary Alumnus” of USCB February 8, 2012 Columbia, SC – State Representative William G. “Bill” Herbkersman was recognized as an “Honorary Alumnus” of the University of South Carolina Beaufort at the Statehouse in Columbia on Wednesday. USCB Students and Leaders presented Representative Herbkersman with a University Decree during their visit to the Statehouse for Carolina Day. Bill has served in the South Carolina House of Representatives for district 118 for ten years and has consistently supported USCB’s growth. The framed decree was presented to Rep. Herbkersman by LeeAnn Weathers, vice president of USCB Student Government. During the surprise ceremony at the Statehouse, Lynn McGee, vice chancellor for advancement at USCB, described Rep. Herbkersman's key role: "During the most critical transition in USCB's 50 year history--as it rose in stature from a 2-year college to full-service, 4-year university and built its main campus in Bluffton--Bill Herbkersman consistently understood USCB would become a game-changing factor in our region and the state. His commitment to take USCB out of last place in the state in legislative dollars appropriated per student (FTE) is vital to USCB's future."
