Yes, the rare opportunity to bite a shark is coming December 2 as a part of the Shark Bait 5K. Runners along Coligny Beach will encounter sharks, actually race volunteers dressed as sharks, appearing from the sand dunes and the Atlantic Ocean during the Shark Bait 5K. Win a fabulous restaurant gift certificate if you can be the first to “bite,” or in this case, catch or tag, each shark as they appear! This unique experience is possible only if you register for the Shark Bait 5K and help University of South Carolina Beaufort students get an “A!” Hilton Head Island, SC will be the site of the Shark Bait 5K to benefit the South Carolina chapter of the ALS Association, helping in the fight of Lou Gehrig’s disease. The race is being held at Coligny Beach on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 4:00pm. The twilight event will culminate in a post-race celebration to include an awards presentation, food and drink, and entertainment. Registration for the 5K fun run or walk is open to all ages and skill levels with awards given to the winners of each competing age and

gender group. The registration fee of $25.00, $35.00 day of race, also includes a commemorative T-shirt and all proceeds from the race will be donated to the ALS Association.

University of South Carolina Beaufort students enrolled in the Introduction to Sports Event Management course are organizing the event. Fifteen USCB students are responsible for every aspect of the planning, marketing, and execution of the race. Participation in the Shark Bait 5K will assist in providing Hospitality Management students with real world event production experience while at the same time supporting the local chapter of the ALS Association.
