USCB celebrates the accomplishments of students through a new honor society

The University of South Carolina Beaufort celebrated the induction of 22 students into The Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society. The initiation ceremony took place on Nov 30 at 6pm in the Hargray building of USCB’s Hilton Head Gateway campus.
The Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society is an honor that has to be earned. In order to quality for membership students must meet the following qualifications: must be a Biology/Science major, completed at least one year of college credit of which at least one-fourth is in the biological sciences, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
“Phi Sigma will enhance a student’s academic experience at USCB, promote faculty/ student mentoring and connect USCB students considering graduate school or professional school, with Phi Sigma member faculty and graduate students at major research universities” stated faculty advisor and Assistant Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Stephen Borgianini, Ph.D.
“Being a part of Phi Sigma Biology Honor Society is a wonderful privilege that I will take with me for the rest of my life” explains Rebecca Rawson, Biology student. “It’s a great honor to be acknowledged for all my hard work and dedication. I look forward to being a part of promoting research and academic excellence at USCB.”
