UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA BEAUFORT SOUTH CAROLINA LIFE SCHOLARSHIP – 4 YEAR TERMS AND CONDITIONS You have been awarded a South Carolina Legislative Incentive for Future Excellence (LIFE) Scholarship. The amount of your award has been printed on the enclosed award notification. Scholarship Criteria General Eligibility:  South Carolina resident at the time of high school graduation and at time of college enrollment;  You must have graduated from a South Carolina high school or graduated from a high school outside of South Carolina while a dependent of a parent or legal guardian who is a legal resident. If you graduated from a high school outside of South Carolina, you are expected to self-identify to the Office of Financial Aid/VA in order to be assured that you are not overlooked during the University's review of LIFE eligible students.  U. S. citizen or permanent resident who meets the definition of an eligible non-citizen under State residency statutes.  First-time freshman must meet two of three of the following criteria: 1 – Earn a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on the Uniformed Grading Scale by the end of the senior year 2 – Score an 1100 on the SAT or an equivalent 24 on the ACT 3 – Graduate in the top 30% of the graduating class based on the Uniform Grading Scale.  U.S. Citizen or permanent resident;  No felony convictions and No other drug or alcohol related misdemeanor convictions within the past academic year;  No defaults or refunds/repayments owed on Federal of State financial aid;  Full-time degree-seeking student in an eligible program of study;  Must not be a SC HOPE Scholarship, Palmetto Fellows Scholarship or Lottery Tuition Assistance recipient. Additional Eligibility requirements for students already enrolled in college: (After completion of the first academic year of college or to earn the scholarship while in college)   

Earn an average of 30 credit hours for each academic year (fall, spring, summer) and Earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Earn a minimum 3.0 LIFE grade point average based on grades earned at ALL institutions attended excluding remedial, continuing education, and non-degree credit courses by the end of each academic year (fall, spring, summer). Please note that the new LIFE GPA does include any college grades earned while in high school.

Eligibility requirements for students that initially enroll in college Mid-Year (Spring Term): (After completion of the first academic year of college)  Earn a minimum of 15 credit hours and 3.0 LIFE GPA at the end of the academic year.  For subsequent years, the student must meet the 30 credit hour annual requirement and 3.0 LIFE GPA. Award Amount: The LIFE Scholarship is valued at a maximum of full-time tuition and technology fee per academic year (12 months from fall through summer), not to exceed $4700 plus a $300 book allowance. A lesser amount may be awarded if a student’s cost of attendance is exceeded. Award Disbursement: The LIFE Scholarship award will be disbursed in equal amounts at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. It must be remembered, however, that thirty semester hours of credit must still be earned each year to maintain eligibility. It will be necessary for you to sign, date, and submit the required CERTIFICATION AND AFFIDAVIT FORM to the Office of Financial Aid/VA.
