USCB students meet the scholarship donors who make college possible November 28, 2012
Twenty-six University of South Carolina Beaufort scholarship recipients had the opportunity to meet the donors who made their collegiate studies possible. For many of these students, college was only a dream; they would not have been able to attend USCB without the help of these scholarships. Students were thankful for the opportunity to meet the donors who are making their aspirations a reality. Sophomore Alyse Bingham, recipient of the Women of Spring Island and Family Resources, Inc. Scholarship #1, said "It was so nice to be able to personally thank the people that made it possible for me to be able to attend college." The donors also enjoyed this opportunity. Dr. Bob Hohman states "Changing the life of a USCB student, investing in the future of the local hospitality industry, and honoring John and Valerie Curry's contributions to Hilton Head Island through a USCB scholarship in their name is a meaningful opportunity. The hardworking volunteers who host the Hilton Head Wine and Food Festival are proud to be donors to the USCB scholarship program." Triplets, Blair, Rebecca, and Kathleen Kent were awarded John & Valerie Foster Educational Scholarships. The sisters, who play on the Sand Shark soccer team, transferred to USCB from a college in TN, explaining they “really wished we would have found USCB earlier. It’s a very special place.” (See attached photo.) Lynn McGee, Vice Chancellor for University Advancement explains "Donors to the USCB scholarship program make a gift of education to deserving students, whose lives are changed in remarkable ways." Many donors have been supporting students who are earning degrees at USCB for over 30 years.
