SHELLY NEMIROVSKY ’85
Shelly Nemirovsky is one of USC’s most steadfast and committed supporters. She upholds the university’s global reputation as a top private research institution through her work as a USC Trustee, philanthropist and community leader.
In 2016 — the year Nemirovsky was elected to the USC Board of Trustees — she and her husband, Ofer, made a gift to endow and name a residential college at USC Village. The Nemirovsky Residential College for Sustainability is home to 150 students who focus on building awareness around the principles of environmental, social and economic sustainability through green living practices, educational activities and societal engagement.
The Nemirovskys’ generosity has touched nearly every part of USC. They established USC’s Shelly and Ofer Nemirovsky Provost’s Chair, which provides recognition and support for the leader overseeing the university’s academic enterprise, as well as USC’s NEMO Prizes, which catalyze high-potential health engineering collaborations between researchers at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the university’s health sciences schools. The couple also established the USC Viterbi School’s Shelly and Ofer Nemirovsky Chair in Convergent Bioscience.
After graduating from the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, Nemirovsky moved to the East Coast, where she worked in financial services for many years before pausing to start a family. She then devoted much of her time to her children’s Boston-area school, Buckingham Browne & Nichols, serving as vice chair of its board and leading the school’s $69 million fundraising campaign in 2008.
She has served on numerous nonprofit boards in the greater Boston community, including the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Esplanade Association, which works to restore and enhance Boston’s Charles River Esplanade. For four years, she was a volunteer fundraiser for Hill House, a community center offering early childhood and senior programs.
Nemirovsky and her husband are the proud parents of three children: Genevieve ’20, Eric ’23 and Will, a 2021 University of Pennsylvania graduate.

EGO NWODIM ‘10
Ego Nwodim is an actress, comedian, writer and producer best known for her performances on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Since joining the SNL cast in 2018, she has become a fan favorite for playing such characters as “Lisa from Temecula” and “Fadda Lawrence,” as well as her Dionne Warwick impression. For her work on SNL, Nwodim received back-to-back NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2024 and 2025.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Nwodim began pursuing comedy after graduating from USC. She honed her craft at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles, where she became a mainstay. In 2017, she wrote, produced and starred in her first-ever one-woman show, Great Black Women...And Then There’s Me, which had a sold-out run.
Appearing on SNL has opened many doors for Nwodim, whose film credits include the Netflix romantic comedy Players, the award-winning Lionsgate dramedy Scrambled, Sony’s family comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, and Peacock’s holiday comedy Genie. She has also starred in such television series as HBO Max’s Love Life, Apple TV’s anthology series Roar and Peacock’s Mr. Throwback.
In 2021, Variety recognized Nwodim as one of the women making an impact in the entertainment industry, prevailing under often challenging circumstances. More recently, The Hollywood Reporter featured her on the cover of its May 23, 2024 issue as one of “comedy’s leading ladies,” alongside former SNL stars Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig and fellow USC alum Renee Elise Goldsberry MM ’97 (Peacock’s Girls5Eva). In that same issue, Nwodim participated in the magazine’s Off Script Comedy Actress Roundtable discussion.
Beyond acting, Nwodim is passionate about giving back. In 2023, she co-launched the Life Skills Improv Program in partnership with the Baltimore Curriculum Project to help local youth explore and embrace new possibilities. Drawing from her own experience of discovering improv as a creative tool for personal and professional development, Nwodim teamed with her brother and a former high school teacher, Todd Wade, to initiate events at City Springs and The Center Stage. They continue to use improvisational exercises as tools for teaching life skills to young students in Baltimore.
Nwodim, a USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences alumna, delivered the school’s commencement address in 2022.

Under his leadership, Relativity successfully launched the world’s first 3D-printed rocket, Terran 1, in 2023, and has sold more than $2.9 billion in launch service agreements to commercial and government entities. Ellis has played a leading role in securing hundreds of millions of dollars in partnership with the U.S. government, including the first-ever launch site award to a venture-backed company at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, as well as exclusive 20-year agreements for multiple test sites at NASA’s Stennis Space Center. TONY ALAMO MD ’91
Antonio “Tony” Alamo is a Nevada native, physician, civic leader and longtime volunteer for USC. While he maintains a busy professional life as the chief physician executive and chief medical officer for the Nevada Heart and Vascular Center, the largest cardiology group in the state, he always makes time to give back to his alma mater, the Keck School of Medicine of USC. In recognition of his service, the Keck School presented him with its Distinguished Alumni Award in 2019.
Although he’s based in his hometown of Las Vegas, Alamo remains close to his Trojan roots. He is a member of the President’s Leadership Council and for more than 30 years, he has shared his expertise and experience with the Keck School as an ambassador, committee member and mentor. He is a current member of the school’s Board of Councilors; has helped interview medical school applicants; regularly mentors current medical students, especially those who are underrepresented in medicine; and has served on many of the school’s teaching panels. In 2022, Donna Elliott, vice dean of medical education, recruited Alamo to assist in the development of a business in medicine curricular thread for Keck students.
After graduating from the Keck School, Alamo started his internal medicine practice in Las Vegas. He also organized a patient referral network with Keck Medicine of USC and regularly facilitated opportunities for his patients to seek the highest level of care here. As a university ambassador, he helped facilitate a $3 million gift from Michael and Sharon Ensign to the Keck School and the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Alamo currently serves as the president of the Ensign Cancer Research Foundation, which has contributed more than $5 million to USC to establish the Ensign Foundation and Tony Alamo, MD, Chair in Medical Education, and the Ensign Foundation and Tony Alamo, MD Professor in Gynecologic Oncology.
Alamo is deeply committed to public service and civic responsibility. He founded the Alamo Medical Clinic in Henderson, Nevada, where he provided critical care to his community. He also served as a tactical physician with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team for 20 years. A past chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, he stepped down from this role in 2020 to battle the COVID-19 outbreak by educating people, providing personal protective equipment for health care providers, and caring for those most at risk.

ASA V. CALL ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
THE HISTORY
April 27, 1932 — In a letter to the Board of the Directors of the USC Alumni Association, Mr. Asa V. Call writes, “Confirming a proposal which was made some time ago, and which I understand meets with your approval, I am willing at this time to give to the Alumni Association a silver trophy to be awarded each year at or about Commencement, to the alumnus of our University who, by reason of his accomplishments in some field of endeavor, during the preceding year, reflects the greatest credit to our University… The Trophy will, of course, remain in the permanent possession of the University, and the name of the donee of the award will each year be engraved thereon. At the time of the presentation this person will be given for his permanent possession a smaller silver replica of the original trophy.”
May 1932 — In a column in the Alumni Review, Mr. Call noted: “There will be no General Alumni banquet this year. The dedication of the Alumni Gate or Pylon, which is to be held just before commencement exercises June fourth, 1932, will take its place. At the same ceremony the first annual award of the new Alumni Cup will be made to the alumnus of the university who has, by reason of his accomplishments during the preceding year, brought the greatest credit to our university.”
April 6, 1933 — Lewis Gough, Executive Secretary of the GAA, named the award the “Asa V. Call Alumni Achievement Trophy” in recognition of Mr. Call’s donation of the silver trophy and inspiring the award itself.
