Letter from the Executive Director Dear Fans and Participants, Welcome to the City of DuBois, Pennsylvania and Clearfield County, home of the 2021 Small College World Series. I want to begin by congratulating our participants. I cannot express how thrilled we are to be returning to play this spring for the USCAA Baseball and Softball Small College National Championships. I want to applaud all of our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators for their perseverance and determination over the course of the last 14 months. This pandemic will forever live as a trying time in our history. I pray that these games can be one of the first outstanding memories that we have coming out of this tumultuous period, and once again returning to something that we love and find part of normal life. Participants, this week you will compete for a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Regardless of the outcomes this week, your performance this season is something to be celebrated. I encourage each of you to revel in the opportunity to share time with your teammates, to compete to the best of your ability, and to walk away knowing that you have each experienced a new level of accomplishment. We pray that the memories you make here in DuBois, as you compete against the top competition from across the Association in the Home Run Derby and National Championship, will be with you for many years to come.

There is a great amount of organization and logistics that go into making a national event happen. We owe special thanks to the City of DuBois, who serve as both host city and title sponsor of the USCAA Small College World Series. Additionally, we extend appreciation to our Official Athletic Training Services provider, Penn Highlands Healthcare, for not only taking great care of our student-athletes, but for making this a safe atmosphere to compete in. Lastly, we celebrate our staff, tournament sponsors, and fans for their part in making this event possible. I’d like to also thank the 2021 Tournament Planning Committee including City Manager Herm Suplizio, Matt Checchio, Amanda Rosman, Joe Mitchell, and Chris Nasuti. USCAA Set to Hold Small College World Series for Baseball and Softball
USCAA WORLD SERIES SMALL COLLEGE May 13-17 DuBois, Pennsylvania
On May 13-17, DuBois, Pennsylvania will become the focus of the small college baseball and softball worlds as the two sports converge in one place for the 2018 USCAA Small College World Series.
The DuBois baseball and softball communities are thrilled by the prospect of hosting the event, as the area has a baseball-rich tradition that extends down to its youth levels. “The DuBois Little League is extremely excited to be partnering with the city of DuBois in hosting the USCAA Small College World Series,” said Andy Gilbert, the president of the DuBois Little League. “We feel that the experience that they will have here playing in our new facilities, and the hospitality that DuBois will provide, will make this week one that they will never forget. We are truly excited for the opportunity.”

While DuBois is excited about hosting, USCAA member teams are equally excited about the opportunity to play in DuBois. Cleary Cougars softball head coach Tim Bailey is looking forward to the prospect his top-ranked team competing there. “The last two years we’ve had the great fortune to play at the national tournament in Akron and as we fell in love with that old ballpark we are extremely excited at the possibility of playing in DuBois,” said Bailey. “My team is very excited with the new format and we can’t wait for the festivities on Sunday. Showers Field, the baseball venue, includes a suite above the leftfield fence and has an approximate capacity of 1,100 – 1,200. While they won’t expect crowds of that size every night, on Sunday May 13, the city anticipates a large crowd for what’s been dubbed the “parade of teams” to open the ceremonies. The opening night ceremonies will also include a home run derby and fireworks. Many area businesses, particularly those with a sports connection like the Baseball Bank batting facility, are ready to welcome the participants to the city. “Obviously, we are very excited that DuBois is hosting the USCAA Small College World Series. The Baseball Bank is one of the many local businesses that will benefit from having this event in DuBois,” said the Baseball Bank in a statement. “We are among the many local baseball and softball fans that will be treated to the great competition at the incredible turf fields. We’ve had the privilege of watching Penn State DuBois baseball and softball practice, and we know how hard these teams work to get the opportunity to play in the Small College World Series.” Penn State DuBois is a USCAA member school and a recent participant at the USCAA National Championships (since renamed the USCAA Small College World Series) and felt that their newly-renovated Showers Field facility, coupled with the city’s brand new softball facility, gave the city an opportunity to host both events. Clearfield County is one of the lead sponsors for
the event and helped DuBois put together a strong proposal to the USCAA to host.

Penn State DuBois head baseball coach Tom Calliari had a big hand in getting the event to the city, as did DuBois city manager, John “Herm” Suplizio. “This is a baseball-rich community and everyone involved with the event, and fans in the tri-county area, are excited about this event coming to DuBois,” said Calliari. “On behalf of the City of DuBois, myself, the mayor, and the city council, we’re extremely excited about hosting the Small College World Series. We think it’s a great event and we think we offer a great venue for it,” said Suplizio. “We are a baseball community, and softball is also going to be hosted in a state-of-the-art facility. I’m going to say it’s one of the nicest, if not the nicest, softball field in the state of Pennsylvania. We’re extremely, extremely excited about it.” Suplizio mentioned that the softball venue, officially called Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field, is handicapped accessible and includes a prominent water feature. Both fields feature turf playing services, which drain better and play truer, particularly in poor weather.
