Letter CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
from the
BJ BERTGES
Chief Operating Officer, USCAA
As we embark on the week, I wish you the best of luck, but I also challenge our student-athletes to be ambassadors not only of the USCAA and the institutions you represent, but of yourself – to compete with honor and integrity regardless of the outcome, to be trusted teammates and a fierce competitor.
Dear Fans and Participants,
Welcome to Chesterfield County and the Richmond Region, home of the 2024 USCAA Small College Basketball National Championships. I want to begin by congratulating our participants. Each of you now represents the best small college programs in the nation.
We are excited to welcome you back to the Virginia State University Multi-purpose Center and Statesman Hall at Richard Bland College. Not only are both venues beautiful facilities, but their respective staffs have been incredibly supportive and instrumental in the successful planning of the championships as we return for our third and final year in the region.
The USCAA is a unique organization, one that is proud to provide opportunities for small colleges to compete against like institutions for National Championships and student-athlete recognition. Each of you should be proud of your accomplishments and for the efforts that have brought you to this national stage. We hope that this week is memorable for all those participating. Few athletes have the opportunity to compete for a National Championship and our organization, its member coaches and Athletic Directors, and affiliates have exhausted great effort into making this a first-class event that will be memorable throughout your lifetime.
I would also like to take this time to thank our numerous business partners including Richmond Region Tourism, Chesterfield County, BSN
Wilson Sporting
Baron
The Emblem Source, BlueFrame Technology and Hudl for their continued efforts in the development and advancement of the USCAA. We also thank our tournament staff, many from our national office who have put in time to plan these championships, along with the hundreds of tournament staff and officials who have traveled to be part of this event. Additionally, we thank our housing partner, The 288 Group, as well as each of our tournament sponsors for their financial contributions, which go far in creating special experiences for our student-athletes. Their ads are featured throughout this program, and we encourage you to visit their restaurants, shops, and websites.
As we embark on the week, I wish you the best of luck, but I also challenge our student-athletes to be ambassadors not only of the USCAA and the institutions you represent, but of yourself – to compete with honor and integrity regardless of the outcome, to be trusted teammates and a fierce competitor. These qualities of a successful student-athlete, brought out through competition, will become what defines you in your efforts at work, your community, and your family for years to come. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
Sincerely,
BJ Bertges Chief Operating Officer, USCAA
