DURING THE PAST FEW WEEKS, USA GYMNASTICS has announced two exciting relationships designed to help USA elev te the overall awareness and increase the visibility GYMNASTICS for t he sport of gymnastics.

The first is our joint partnership with AT&T to present "USA Gymnastics: Behind the Team." Behind the Team wi ll be a Web-based series that will give an up-close look at our country's top gymnasts as they strive to take on the world in international competition. Through August of 2008, USA Gymnastics and AT&T will co-produce no less than 25 Webisodes that will appear as part of AT&T's entertainment and sports platform (www.attblueroom.com/ teamusa) . This allows USA Gymnastics to provide our elite athletes and coaches a unique opportunity to tell their story and receive the full support of the distribution and promotional power offered by AT&T. We will keep you posted as new episodes become available, and we will be offering direct lin ks through the USA Gymnastics Web site. The first webisode should be online by the time you read this!

Our second announcement concerns t he partnership with The Wasserman Media Group (WMG) , a dynamic and growing sports marketing and media company based in Los Angeles.

USA Gymnastics has entered into a marketing and new media partnership with WMG, along with USA Swimming and USA Track and Field. The collaboration of our three sports will provide greater value for corporate America to better leverage marketing and promotional activities that We are working to improve the benefit all levels of our sports. Additionally, new resources will be invested into on-line technology services we provide all of our members, and we believe these designed to better promote the sport of gymnastics and provide increased visibility. WMG is uniquely initiatives will help drive increased positioned to provide a multi-faceted level of service to USA Gymnastics, and our efforts will begin interest and participation right away to increase our activities on-line. Most at the club leveL importantly, each sport maintains its individual identity and efforts, coming together to share best practices and joint ventures when it makes sense for all parties.

Why is this important for USA Gymnastics? It means that we are doing more to leverage the ever-changing technology landscape and work with partners that improve our ability by investing in the sport of gymnastics. By doing so, we are serving an important part of our business objective to increase our visibility in a cost-effective manner. Along with these initiatives, in the very near future we will be launching a redesigned USA Gymnastics Web site, increasing the fan-friendliness of the site and improving the user-friendliness for all of our members.

We are working to improve the services we provide our members, and we believe these initiatives will help drive increased interest and participation at the club level. We encourage all of our Member Clubs to join forces with our national efforts to demonstrate the strength that the gymnastics community delivers when we work as a team. Together, we can create a significant impact, and we look forward to keeping you informed about these initiatives, along with those concerning safety, education and fitness.

FOCUS: LESS IS MORE AT BOOT CAMP WE STRESS the value

of critically inspecting your personal "decision-making habits. " One of the numerous components of effective thinking is the ability to embrace paradox; a second is the habit of discriminating opinion from fact; another, and the topic of this article, is focus. Focus means to zero-in, to eliminate all but the most critica l thought or idea, to distill it to the essence. To focus is difficult because it is often counterintuitive. To focus means believing "less is more."

At Kids First, one example of focus is the discipline to avoid splinter programs.

Splinter programs are tiny profit centers that have no hope of becoming a fullblown program. Example: I am confident Kids First could pluck an hour out of the week and conduct an adult gymnastics class of eight students and be nicely profitable for that hour and space. However, because adult gymnastics is not likely to have enough "future" to develop into a fullblown program, Kids First has disciplined itself not to chase that profit. (At Kids First "full-blown" program means having

enough" oomph" to cost-justify its own dedicated Department Leader, PI T or FI T).

But you might wonder why on earth we would turn away easy and obvious profit? Because Kids First's resources are limited and splinter programs consume a disproportionately large share of resources to keep them going (staffing, sc heduling , Web site maintenance, curriculum design and documentation , risk management, etc.). In short, at Kids First we have disciplined ourselves to devote our resources toward the biggest returns.

Two clarifications: (1) Keep in mind that one club's splinter program may be another club's bread and butter; and (2) Kids First will engage in profit centers called pilot programs that are tiny profit centers that look like they have a chance to develop into a full-blown program. A few pilot programs "make it" but most evolve into splinter programs, when it becomes time to cut and run.

Perhaps the most visible and dramatic example of focus at Kids First is our name choice, which describes our strategic

concept. In the Kids First's five-mile radius market area, there are 130,000 people. With 86,000 sq. ft. and $4 million of debt to service, wouldn't it seem logical and safest to design a business to service each and everyone of those 130,000 people? Perhaps, but Kids First opted for a strategic concept and a name-Kids First-that blatantly EXCLU DES 85% of t he population! We chose to focus on 15% of the popUlation, kids 3-8 years of age. We believe that by focusing on 15%, we have a larger, stronger business.

Counterintuitive? Yes, but just one more example where less is more.

A Nice Surprise WHEN ASKED HOW IT FELT TO WIN a medal at the Opal Cup in Calais, France, senior rhythmic national team member Ava Gehringer, said, "It was a really nice surprise." She added, "It was kind of surreal to be honest. I wasn't expecting it at all. I was just going to the meet to get more experience because I'm new to the international scene."

Gehringer, 17, won the bronze medal in the clubs event finals, competing against top athletes from the powerhouse countries in rhythmic gymnastics including Russia, Belarus, and Israel.

This Evanston, Ill., native said, "It was also a really nice surprise to place fifth in the all-around, too, but medaling was even better!"

Gehringer trains at North Shore Rhythmics in Glenview, Ill., where she trains with her coaches Natasha Klimouk and Dani Takova.

Gehringer has only competed twice for the USA internationally - once in Belgium and once in France. But, she's planning to get a lot more experience soon and says she's moving up slowly. "In May I'm going to Spain, Portugal, and Poland, all in one trip, and I'll be gone three weeks," said Gehringer. "Then I come home for a few days and leave again for Belarus for another week trip. I'll be attending two Grand

Prix events, I'll train and watch the competition in Portugal, and I'll compete in another competition in Poland.

The best part of competition for Gehringer? "I love traveling and experiencing different cultures and meeting new people."

Always the adventurer, Gehringer told the story of how she began rhythmic gymnastics at age 5. "I was taking swimming lessons at the YMCA by my house and I had to walk by the gym where the girls were doing rhythmic gymnastics. I wanted to try it because it looked like so much fun , plus, I wasn't a very good swimmer. I did get to try it and I've been doi ng it ever si nce!"

USA Gymnastics Rhythmic Program Director Caroline Hunt said, "Gehringer's achievement comes in a recent stream of successful performances by our top senior rhythmic athletes in international competitions. We're all very proud that Gehringer could represent the USA on the podium and look forward to more success in the future. " -r.

USA GYMNASTICS UNIVERSITY NEW COURSE OFFERINGS USA GYMNASTICS IS MOVING forward with USA Gymnastics University which will provide greater educational opportunities for coaches, instructors, judges, and club administrators. The new opportunities will include a certification program, several new courses, both live and online, and greater educational offerings at the National and Regional Congresses.

There is now a new division at USA Gymnastics, Educational Services, which is working full time on the USA Gymnastics University initiatives, new course curriculums, and coaching certifications.

Along with the launch of the USA Gymnastics University and the certification program , the top priority is the development of new courses. Currently in the works are two courses that are set to debut by the beginning of May. The Preschool Fundamentals course will replace the current KAT and MELPD certification program . The new course will phase out the existing KAT and MELPD courses beginning June 30, 2007. However, KAT and MELPD courses can be taken now through June 30, 2007, and attendees will still maintain their certifications. The Preschool Fundamentals course is comprised of an online portion, which focuses on theory, and a live portion, which allows for hands-on training. This course has a fresh, new look and feel and among the numerous benefits are the following: updated course content and materials, the ease and convenience of an online portion, and a greater emphasis on hands on training. Part 1, the online portion, will take approximately four hours to complete, and the user will be able to log in and out of the course. Part 2, the Live portion, will be a four hour practical course.

The second of the courses is First Aid Basics, an online course, teaches the basics of first aid with a focus on the sport of gymnastics. The course will take approximately two hours to complete, and the user will be able to log in and out of the course.

First Aid Basics

Below are the course descriptions for these courses: Preschool Fundamentals Part 1: Theory (Online) This course is a must have for preschool instructors. Part 1 covers young child development theory including teaching philosophy, stages of child development, characteristics of a good teacher, class management, safety considerations, skill deconstruction , lesson planning, and program assessment. This course will help instructors better understand their students and better prepare, organize, and run safe and successful preschool classes.

Part 2: Hands on Training (Live) This is a live, hands-on training course designed for preschool instructors. Part 2 course topics include fundamental movement for children, class safety overview, games, activities to avoid, manipulatives, lesson planning , inclusion of music, thematic teaching, parent/ child teaching, and the use of apparatus. This is a great hands-on follow-up to the theory course, with course instructors demonstrating practical examples

This course provides basic first aid information for all gymnastics professionals. It covers injury prevention, com mon types of gymnastics injuries and risks and the symptoms and treatment of those injuries. It also includes general information on other life threatening conditions .

This course is essential for gymnastics coaches, instructors, and teachers as well as all gym employees.

Part 1 of the Preschool FundamentaLs Course and the First Aid Basics course are scheduled to be available by the beginning of May. Part 2 of Preschool Fundamentals: Hands on Training (H .0. T.) course will debut at the Regional and National Congresses this year.

USA GYMNASTICS UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATION PROGRAM USA Gymnastics is announcing its new certification program as part of USA Gymnastics University. Greater educational opportunities will be available for coaches, instructors, judges, and administrators in all of the disciplines and areas of gymnastics - both recreational and competitive. With the certification program, gymnastics professionals can earn credits through their course and experience work toward USA Gymnastics Certification. The Certification Program provides an excellent opportunity for professionals to increase their knowledge, raise the level of the sport, and acquire and highlight their professional credentials.

The USA Gymnastics University Certification Program USA Gymnastics University is an educational resource that offers numerous educational courses and activities and five levels of certification for gymnastics coaches, recreational teachers and instructors, judges, and business owners/administrators. • Program ColLege - For gymnastics coaches working with pre-team, compulsory, optional, and elite athletes.

Why is education important?

For USA Gymnastics, education is important in order to provide the best conditions and training environments for gymnastics participants. Safety, proper child development, correct skill technique, injury prevention , conditioning and progressions, and overall athlete preparation are just some of the areas of education that will help coaches, instructors, judges, and administrators provide safe, fun environments for all. With the University, USA Gymnastics will provide standardized education throughout the country to advance the sport of gymnastics.

Member Clubs and other member groups have continually ranked education as an area where they would like more assistance from USA Gym nastics. In response to these requests, USA Gymnastics is working diligently to meet this great need within our sport.

For individuals, the benefits of continuing education and professional certification are numerous. Some of the benefits include: • Providing a safer, healthier environment for gymnastics participation and

advancement of our sport • Obtaining national-level professional recognition and acknowledgment of competency, which aids employers to evaluate current employees and future hires, helps the public evaluate and distinguish between gymnastics clubs, and allows professionals to stand out among peers • Helping to make the gymnastics professional's job more satisfying • Contributing to job advancement • Keeping gymnastics coaches and instructors at the top of their game • Showing commitment to professionalism and lifelong learning • Enhancing skills and training, expanding knowledge How does the certification program work?

Within each college, there are five levels of certification (the Master of Sport Level applies only to the Program College).

Individuals must complete designated requirements to obtain certification at each level with each level of certification serving as a stepping stone to the next.

Levell provides a general foundation for all gymnastics professionals, with each level building from there. The levels of certification do not correspond with the competitive levels in the sport. You can think of USA Gymnastics University just like you would any college or university.

Each level of certification requires a certain number of credits obtained from three requirement areas: core courses, practical experience, and elective courses.

• Core courses are courses and content developed specifically for the college and certification level. These courses provide a knowledge base for the given level.

At Levell, the core requirements are the same for all of the colleges. Three core courses are required for Levell certification, and they include Safety Certification, First Aid Basics, and Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction.

At Level 2 and above, the requirements are specific to the college.

• Practical experience is a requirement derived from experience-based learning versus course work or book study.

Practical experience is defined per college and certification level. Examples of practical experience may include: • Coaching at a variety of program competitions, including Level 5, 6 and/ or 7 State Championship, Level 8,

9, and/ or 10 Regional Championships, National Qualifier and/ or U.S. Championships • Minimum three years work experience as a preschool gymnastics teacher • Instructor or presenter at a live course or Congress • Elective courses provide individuals with choices of course topics to supplement core education. Individuals may choose courses based on area of interest or their desire to broaden their knowledge base.

Examples of elective courses may include: • National and regional Congresses • American Red Cross CPR certification and/ or First Aid certification • CORE Workshops • Business seminars • Other courses offered through USA Gymnastics, including courses in nutrition, biomechanics, sports medicine, and psychology • Core courses from other USA Gymnastics University colleges • Attendance at Visa Championships, Tyson

American Cup, world-level international competitions or Olympic Games • Designated courses from accredited colleges and universities (i .e. Michigan State University, Boston College, etc.)

Most of the existing USA Gymnastics education programs, courses, camps, and workshops are being incorporated into the University.

Certification is valid for four years. Each level has specific renewal requi rements for individuals to maintain their certification .

Continuing education through renewal provides a means for professionals to stay current with new rules, ever-changing techniques, new research and studies, updated medical information , and trends as well as refresh their existing knowledge. The renewal requirements can be completed at any time throughout the four-year period.

Testing is incorporated into the course work and therefore, no comprehensive testing is required to complete a level.

Generally, one hour of education will equal one University credit. Individuals will

complete an application for certification with USA Gymnastics once they have completed all of the requirements at a given level.

All course work and practical experience that applies towards USA Gymnastics Certification must be earned through USA Gymnastics courses and/ or sanctioned events. This is the only way for USA Gymnastics to track and verify the completion of requirements. Additionally, this enables USA Gymnastics to provide standardized education and guarantee the level of training at its courses.

All individuals who wish to obtain USA Gymnastics University certification will be required to begin with and complete Levell, regardless of prior certifications, experience, college degrees, etc. As mentioned earlier, Levell is a foundational level intended to provide a good basis for all gymnastics professionals. After completion of Levell, individuals may follow the process to apply for qualification to higher levels of certification. The process and associated requirements will be

defined for each college and each level.

Qualification to higher levels is based on experience and accomplishments, not necessarily time in the sport. If an individual is approved for qualification to a higher level, he/ she may jump immediately to that level. As mentioned above, certification is valid for four years and the individual must meet the renewal requirements to maintain certification. New and inexperienced individuals must progress through each level of certification.

When will it be available?

Gymnastics professionals may begin working toward certification immediately.

USA Gymnastics is continuing to develop new courses that will round out the curriculum of the University. As mentioned, many of our current educational offerings, such as Congresses, conferences, workshops, online courses, training camps, etc. will be part of the University curriculum, but much more is needed.

First Aid Basics, one of the Levell core requirement courses, as well as Preschool Fundamentals, a core course for the Recreational College, are scheduled to be available this spring. The final Levell core course, Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction, is planned for completion by the end of the year. That means Levell certification will be possible by early 2008.

2007-2008 Membership Notices • Membership forms are being revised for the 2007-2008 season. They will be mailed to clubs with a current address on file.

Please make certain that your club address is current in our database. The new forms will also be available on our website. We anticipate the club packets will be in the mail by the end of June.

• We will post the new forms on the website in early June. The online registration will be open mid-June. Watch the website for announcements.

• Once you receive the new, 2007-2008 forms, please throw the 2006-2007 forms away. Member Services will only accept the current season's forms. This is a most important Risk Management policy.

• The athlete membership season for 2006-2007 ends on July 31,2007.

Please make certain that all parents are aware that any athlete membership purchased now will expire on July 31, 2007. The athlete membership is not pro-rated.

• Keep copies of completed Athlete and Introductory Member forms - Make certain that your club maintains a signed copy of each athlete and introductory member form that you register. This is a requirement of our insurance company and is a risk management practice that your club must follow. USA Gymnastics does not have copies of any form when the member application is completed online.

• You must keep all forms on file for an extended time. Please consult your attorney for the best advice on keeping and storing membership forms.

• Athlete members and professional members' fees will increase by $1.00. All other memberships will remain at the 2007 current rate.

• Register today for three days of Gymnastics Excellence through Education August 16-18, 2007. Advance registration rates end July 15, 2007. After that date registration must take place on site and the regular seminar fees will apply.

• Online registration is available now at www.usa-gymnastics.org. click on the Education link, then National Congress.

• Member Club discount group registrations are due by June 1! Form must be completed and mailed or faxed with payment (check or credit card). You may also register online.

• Congress registration covers attendance at educational sessions for three days, tickets for the huge exhibit hall raffle, entrance into the exhibit hall, exhibit hall social, entrance to the Acrobatic Gymnastics and Rhythmic competitions, special Congress bag, Congress gift and Congress dance party.

• Purchase your all-session tickets for the Visa Championships. Will be held at the HP Pavilion .

• Contact National Travel Systems now for your Congress hotel. There are multiple hotels that will be used for Congress attendees. Rooms are available although a few of the hotels are sold out or are selling out. Make your reservations soon .

• Hall of Fame Class of 2007 Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will take place on Friday, August 17 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tickets are $40.00 . Ceremony and luncheon will take place at the San Jose Marriott Hotel.

Risk Management Reminders • Safety Certification must be renewed every four years. Live courses will be conducted at USA Gymnastics national and regional congresses. Courses are listed on the website.

• You may renew your certification up to one year prior to your safety certification expiration date.

• Pre-register for all live safety courses.

This applies also to professional members who are eligible to take a free course.

There is an additional $25 on-site registration fee for anyone who has not pre-registered, including professional members.

• Please read and review your Risk Management/Safety Handbook annually.

You will be held responsible to the standards that are set forth in our industry.

SELECTION PROCEDURES 2007 MEN'S ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS WORLD TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURES I. SELECTION SYSTEM Selection for the 2007 World Championships Team Athletes may qualify for the 2007 World Championships team in one of two ways: A. Be a gymnast chosen by the World Championships Team Selection Committee as one of the six athlete members of the World Championships Team. To be eligible, a Team Member must be a participant in both the 2007 National Qualifier and the 2007 Visa Championships as defined in Section II. B. Petition to the 2007 World Championships Team through the petition process identified in Section III.

II. SELECTION PROCESS Selection for the 2007 World Championships Team will be handled by the World Championships Selection Com mittee.

A. World Championships Selection Committee composition: 1. Chairman, Men's Program Committee 2. USA Gymnastics Men's Program Director 3. Senior National Team Coordinator 4. Athlete Representative 5. Coach - This individual will be selected by the Men's Program Committee and may not have an athlete in contention for the 2007 World Championships Team.

B. World Championships Team Selection Committee Roles and Responsibilities: 1. Selection of the six team members for the World Team.

2. Selection of a minimum of two replacement athletes for any World Team member that cannot compete due to injury, illness, or other circumstances that would necessitate replacement and designate which of the replacement athletes will travel and be credentialed.

3. Accept or reject petitions onto the 2007 World Team (see Section III).

4. The Men's Program Committee will name a replacement committee member in the event that a World Championships Selection Committee member is currently affiliated with any athlete in consideration for the 2007 World Championships Team or is unable to fulfill the obligations of the World Championships Team Selection Committee or continue for any reason.

C. Process for selection of the six team member gj1f1 nasts for the 2007 World Championships Team.

1.Athletes will be chosen from among athletes who participate in both the 2007 National Qualifier and 2007 Visa Championship competitors or from petitions to the 2007 World Championships team (see Section III).

An athlete who is unable to participate in the National Qualifier may petition to compete in the 2007 Visa Championships.

2. The World Championships Team Selection Committee will also identify a minimum of two potential replacement(s) to the World Team who mayor may not travel to the World Championships as well as designate which replacement athlete would receive a credential if he travels with the team.

3. These selections are subject to the approval of the President of USA Gymnastics who will certify that the Selection Procedures were followed.

4. The World Championships Team Selection Committee will consider the following factors when selecting the six World Team members and potential replacement athlete(s): a. All results from the 2007 National Qualifier and the 2007 Visa Championships. The results will be weighted at 30% (15% for day one results and 15% for day two results) for the National Qualifier and 70% (35% for day one results and 35% for day two results) for the Visa Championships b. The percentage of hit routines by the gymnast in the selection competitions. c. Start va lues (A Score) on each apparatus from the National Qualifier and the Visa Championships d. Execution (B Score) on each apparatus from the National Qualifier and the Visa Championships e. Points ranking system derived from the National Qualifier and the Visa Championships competitive results. The points ranking system will be published no less than 60 days prior to the National Qualifier. f. Past domestic and international performance and experience including type, frequency and leve l of domestic and international competitions and routine hit percentage in those events. g. Demonstrated professional attitude and ability to positively contribute to the team dynamic. h. Any physical, training or performance factor which might inhibit peak performance at the 2007 World Championships.

5. The World Championships Team Selection Committee will consider the information noted in number 4 above in the following prioritized manner. a. The total competitive results (as defined in C.4.a above) from the 2007 National Qualifier and the 2007 Visa Championships will be used to identify the teams which would produce the highest team score for the six man team, five athletes compete, four scores count team preliminary competition and also for the six man team, three athletes compete and all three scores count team finals format. b. The start values of all potential team members will be factored into the process of selecting the final team. c. The execution (8 score) of all potential team members will be factored into the

process of selecting the final team . d. The remaining factors, the points ranking system, past domestic and international experience and other applicable factors as listed above will be considered by the committee only in the event that a final decision identifying the team members cannot be reached using the competition results, start values and execution factors.

D. The announcement of the World Championships team members will take place within 48 hours from the conclusion of the 2007 Visa Championships.

III. PETITIONS A. Petition Rights: Accordingly, USA Gymnastics will allow athletes to petition USA Gymnastics for the right to: 1. Enter either the 2007 National Qualifier or the 2007 Visa Championships, as considered by the Men's Program Committee.

2. To be selected to the 2007 World Championships Team, as determined by the World Championships Team Selection Committee.

B. Petition Procedures and Requirements 1. A petition to enter either the 2007 National Qualifier or the 2007 Visa Championships, or to be placed on the 2007 World Championships Team, may be submitted by any athlete.

2. Petitions to either the 2007 National Qualifier or the 2007 Visa Championships will be considered fo r approval by the Men's Program Committee. All petitions to the National Qualifier must be received by May 9, 2007 to be considered. All petitions to the Visa Championships must be received by June 9, 2007 to be considered.

3. Petitions directly to the 2007 World Championships Team will be considered for approval by the World Championships Selection Committee. In order to be considered by the World Team Selection Committee, petitions must be submitted in writing to USA Gymnastics' national office as soon as practical after the athlete becomes aware of his inability to participate in the applicable competition and no later than the conclusion of the 2007 Visa Championships.

4. A petition must state the specific injury, illness or unusual circumstance, which prohibited the athlete from participating in the competitive process. In the case of a petition based upon an injury or illness, the petition must be accompanied by a physician's statement detailing the injury as well as the prognosis for recovery, and the nature and extent of that injury or illness is subject to verification by one or more doctors selected

by USA Gymnastics. Athletes must also be able to effectively demonstrate through past competitive results from USA Gymnastics or FIG sanctioned events that, for petitions to the Visa Championships, they are competitive in

the field with other athletes qualified for the 2007 Visa Championships and, for petitions to the World Championships Team , that the athlete would be highly competitive for a position on the World Team.

5. An athlete who is petitioning directly to the 2007 Visa Championships will be required to attend (at their own expense) the two Senior National Team Camp scheduled for July 24 - 28, 2007 . The purpose of this camp would be to evaluate whether or not the athlete will be sufficiently ready to be competitive with the field at the 2007 Visa Championships.

The evaluation will be made by the Senior National Team Coordinator who will report his recommendation to the Men's Program Committee. The evaluation will be based on the performance level of routines demonstrated at the camp on all events the athlete intends to compete at the Visa Championships.

IV. REPLACEMENT/REMOVAL PROCEDURES An athlete or coach may be replaced or removed from the 2007 World Championships Team for the following reasons: • Violations of the USA Gymnastics Code of Ethics (attached) • InjUlY, illness, is certified by an USA Gymnastics physician (or medical staff). If an athlete refuses verification of their illness or injury by an USA Gymnastics physician (or medical staff), their injury will be assumed to be disabling and they may be removed.

• Lack of performance in training which inhibits peak performance at the World Championships.

A decision to remove an athlete is subject to approval by the President of USA Gymnastics and is also subject to the USA Gymnastics Bylaws, USA Gymnastics Grievance Procedures and to the United States Olympic Committee Constitution.

V. QUALIFICATION EVENTS • The 2007 U.s. Qualifier competition to the 2007 Visa Championships will be conducted June 7-9, 2007, at a site to be determined.

• 2007 Visa Championships - August 15-18, 2007, in San Jose, CA

VII. COACHES SELECTION A. Head Coach The Men's Program Committee will select the head coach a minimum of four months prior to the start of the World Championships. The MPC requires that it must receive up to three recommendations for the head coach position from the Senior National Team Coaches and up to three recommendations for the head coach position from the Senior National Team Athletes, a minimum of one month prior to the coach's selection. The selection of the head coach will be based upon the following criteria and must be approved by the President of USA Gymnastics: • proven team leadership ability • international experience; and • ability to communicate to the athletes and follow the established World Championships training plan.

B. Additional Coaches Additional Coaches attending the 2007 World Championships as officially credentialed members of the delegation will be selected by the Men's Program Committee and approved by the President of USA Gymnastics. The additional coaches must come from among the personal coaches of World Championships Team members. The number of additional coaches will be determined by the Men's Program Committee based on the number of available coaches' credentials at the 2007 World Championships and available funding for the event.

XI. INTERNATIONAL DISCLAIMER These procedures are based on roc and/ or FIG rules and regulations as presently known and understood.

Any change in the selection procedures caused by a change in roc and/ or FIG rules and regulations will be distributed to the affected athletes immediately. The selection criteria are based on the latest information available to USAG. However, the selections are always subject to unforeseen,

intervening circumstances, and realistically have not accounted for every possible contingency.

ATHLETE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT These Selection Procedures have been reviewed and approved by USA Gymnastics. Each athlete and coach participating in the process for selecting the team as outlined in these Selection Procedures has carefully reviewed and understands the terms of these Procedures. SELECTION PROCEDURES C. Qualification/Selection to the 2007 World Team

The process for qualification/selection to the World Team is a combination of the results from the 2007 Visa Championsh ips and discretionary selection criteria.

1. Qualification for the 2007 Visa Championships is: • By score from a national qualifying meet or international competition, or • By score from the either the American or U.S. Classic, or • By score of a current national team member from a verification training camp, or • By being one of the seven (7) members of the 2006 World Championships Team, or • Accepted petitioned athletes

II. SELECTION COMMITTEE The Selection Committee is comprised of the following individuals: • National Team Coordinator, Martha Karolyi • Chairman of the International Elite Committee, Steve Rybacki.

• Athlete Representative, Kim Zmeskal, who meets the definition of active athlete.

• In the event any of the members of the Selection Committee is currently affiliated, the International Elite Committee will select another individual who is unaffiliated to serve on the Selection Committee. In the case of affi liation of the Athlete Representative the determination of her replacement will be made by the USA Gymnastics Athlete's Council.

Roles and Responsibilities The Selection Committee has two roles:

• Selection of the ath letes for the World Team • Selection of the Coach(es) for the World Team

• Physical capability to fulfill training plan as li sted in the Women's Responsibility Manual

A. The top two (2) All Around athletes from the combined rank order at the 2007 Visa Championships wi ll automatically be named as one of the seven members of the World Team.

B. The other (5) members of the World Team will be selected from among the qualifiers, accepted petitioned athletes and the competitors at the 2007 Visa Championships.

C. There will be a mandatory World Team Preparation Camp for the World Team members to be held immediately after the Visa Championships in Houston, Texas.

D. All documents used throughout the selection process will be retained by USA Gymnastics for a minimum of six months following the Closing Ceremony of the 2007 World Championships.

Because of the close proximity of the World Championships to the Visa Championships, there will be no petitions to the World Championships Team.

Petitions will only be considered for the Classic Meets and the 2007 Visa Championship.

A. Procedures for petitioning into the 2007 Classic and Visa Championships are listed in the 2006-2007 Women's Rules and Policies.

B. Petitions will be considered by the Selection Committee, in consultation with the Women's Program Director and the Vice President of Program, for any member of the 2006 World Championship Team and from any athlete who has competed at either of the 2007 Classic meets, or an international assignment between August 2006 and August 2007 C. In order to be considered by the Selection Committee, petitions must be submitted in writing to the USA Gymnastics' national office as soon as practical after the athlete becomes aware of her inability to participate in the process described above.

D. The petition must state the specific injury, illness or unusual circumstance which prohibited the athlete from participating in the competitive process. In the case of a petition based upon an injury or illness, the petition must be accompanied by a physician's statement. The nature and extent of that injUly or illness is subject to verification by a doctor selected by USA Gymnastics

IV. SELECTION CRITERIA The committee will consider the following areas when selecting the World Team • Team needs and medal potential • Results from international and national competitions • A - Scores • Hit consistency • Composite strength of all the World Team Members • B-Scores (Execution) • World Class presentation • Readiness to compete

VII. REMOVAL An athlete or coach may be removed from the 2007 World Team or from any step of the process for selecting the team if he/she violates the USA Gymnastics Code of Ethics or the Women's Team Responsibility Manual. An athlete may also be removed from the 2007 World Team in the event of injury or illness which inhibits peak performance at the above said competitions. Athletes agree to submit to any medical diagnosis that is requested

by USA Gymnastics to assure that the athlete is able to compete and is not at risk for further injury.

Verification of injury or illness will be by a doctor selected by USA Gymnastics.

Removal may only occur with the approval of the President of USA Gymnastics after consultation with the National Team Coordinator and the Head Coach and an interview with the athlete and her coach . Any decision to remove an athlete or coach is subject to review through USA Gymnastics Bylaws, Grievance Procedures and the USOC Constitution.

SELECTION PROCEDURES three individual gymnasts, personal coaches and one team manager. A fourth athlete may be assigned to the team by the Selection Committee according to the composite strength of the team.

A. The selection procedures for the team are as follows: 1. The two highest ranked all around athletes from the results of the 2007 Visa Championships will be named to the World Championships Team.

2. The World Championships Selection Committee will select the additional team member(s) from among the competitors at the 2007 Visa Championships and approved petitions immediately following the 2007 Visa Championships. Refer to Section ll.B for details.

II. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION A. Qualification to the 2007 Visa Championships: 1. Qualification to the Visa Championships is through two qualifying events, which are open to all Level 9 & 10 rhythmic gymnasts who are registered athlete members with USA Gymnastics.

2. The top five Senior National Team members as determined by the 2006 Visa Championships & the 2007 Rhythmic Challenge are automatically accepted into the 2007 Visa Championships.

3. The qualifying events are scheduled to take place in July 2007.

4. The Visa Championships will ta ke place in August 2007.

B. Petitions to the 2007 Visa Championships 1. Petitions to enter the Visa Championships will be accepted for any 2006-2007 National Team members unable to compete at a qualifying event because of injury, illness, or unusual circumstances.

2. The petition must be submitted in writing to the Rhythmic Program Director at the National Office as soon as practical afte r the gymnast becomes aware of the situation that makes her unable to compete. In the case of a petition based on illness or injury, the written petition must be accompanied by a physician's report specifying the nature or extent of the injury or illness. Petitions will be accepted or denied

by the Rhythmic Program Committee, which includes an elected athlete representative.

3. An athlete accepted into the Visa Championships by petition will be in addition to other athletes who qualified into the U.S. Gymnastics Championships through the processes identified in Section ll. A. Above.

C. Qualification to the 2007 World Championships 1. The All-around results from the 2007 Visa Championships will determine the top six (6) athletes to be considered for a placement on the team. The first and second place athlete will automatically qualify to the World Championship Team.

2. Subject to the petition process as identified below, the Selection Committee, with final approval from USA Gymnastics' President, will determine the World Team who will represent the USA at the 2007 World Championships from those six athletes. The Selection Committee will also determine if naming a fourth athlete will be beneficial to the team results.

D. Petitions (due to injury or illness) to the 2007 World Championships Team 1. Petitions to be considered by the Selection Committee will be limited to the top four (4) athletes at 2007 Rhythmic Challenge and/or the 2006 Visa Championships.

2. In order to submit a petition to be placed on the Team, the gymnast must submit a written petition to the Rhythmic Program Director as soon as practical after learning of her inability to participate or continue to compete in the Visa Championships. Petitions based on illness or injury must be accompanied by a physician's report indicating the nature and extent of the injury and illness. Petitions will be accepted or denied by the Selection Committee which includes an elected athlete representative.

E. If an athlete who has been named to the 2007 World Championships Team is injured or becomes ill prior to the Competition and this injury or illness requires the athlete to withdraw from the Team prior to departure for the World Championship, the Selection Committee will decide if a replacement is needed. If the Selection Committee decides an additional athlete

is needed on the Team, they will determine who that athlete will be with the approval of the President of USA Gymnastics.

F. Removal: 1. An athlete may be removed from the 2007 World Championships Team or from any steps of the process for selecting the Team if that athlete violates the terms of the USA Gymnastics' National Team Agreement (including the Code of Conduct incorporated in that Agreement) .

2. An athlete may also be removed in the event of injury or illness which inhibits performance at the World Championships. Verification of injury or illness will be by two doctors selected by USA Gymnastics.

3. removal may only occur with the approval of the President of USA Gymnastics after consultation with the Rhythmic Program Director and the Head Coach and an interview with the athlete and her coach.

Any decision to remove an athlete or coach is subject to review throug h USA Gymnastics Bylaws, Grievance Procedures and the USOC Constitution.

III. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM - GROUP COMPETITION A. The World Selection Committee may make a recommendation to the President of USA Gymnastics if they feel the 2006 Senior Group Champion has met the international standards to represent the USA at the 2007 World Championships.

B. In the event a group is selected to represent the U.S. and participate in the 2007 World Championships, their participation will be self funded. The committee will consider the following areas prior to making the recommendation: 1. Results from the 2007 Rhythmic Challenge and the 2007 Visa Championships.

2. Results and consistency from any 2007 international events.

3. Achievement of a combined score (21.00) that is equivalent to the score achieved by the top 12 teams in 2006.

3. Composition of strength among the team members.

Personal Coaches of the athletes selected as 2007 World team members, who were not selected as Head Coach, will be invited based upon the number credentials available.

VII. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Each athlete and coach participating in the process

Trampoline & Tumbling Program 2007 TRAMPOLINE & TUMBLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURES I. OVERVIEW A. Per the FIG Technical Regulations, the Trampoline & Tumbling Delegation for the 2007 World Championships will be comprised of a maximum of four women , four men for individual trampoline, power tumbling and double-mini and two women's pairs and two men's pairs for synchronized trampoline. Four coaches will be named for each discipline, individual trampoline/ synchronized trampoline, power tumbling and double-mini trampoline.

B. For all disciplines, the athletes selected to the 2007 World Championships Team must be 17 years of age or older in 2007 .

The alternate will only compete if a team member is withdrawn from the competition.

D. The Program Committee will select the coaches immediately following the Stars & Stripes Cup in September.

E. Criteria: The committee will consider the following areas prior to making the recommendation: 1. International Experience 2. Technical knowledge 3. Rapport with athletes

4. Proven leadership ability 5. Professional member in compliance with the USA Gymnastics Code of Ethics.

IV. REMOVAL A. An athlete or coach may be removed from the 2007 World Championships Team or from any step of the process for selecting the 2007 World Championships Team if he/she violates the USA Gymnastics Code of Ethics. An athlete may also be removed from the 2007 World Championships Team in the event of injury or illness which inhibits peak performance at the 2007 World Championships. Verification of injury or illness will be by two doctors selected by USA Gymnastics.

B. Removal may only occur with the approval of the President of USA Gymnastics after consultation with the National Team Coach and the Program Director and an interview with the athlete and her coach. Any decision to remove an athlete or coach is subject to review through USA Gymnastics Bylaws, Grievance Procedures and the USOC Constitution .

2007 MEN'S WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURES I. SELECTION SYSTEM The Men's Delegation for the 2007 World University Games will be comprised of five athletes. The format for the competition is a five-man team who will participate in team, all-around and individual event sessions. The dates of the 2007 World University Games are August 8 - 18, 2007. The games will be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The artistic gymnastics competition is scheduled to take place on August 9th - 12th according to the official 2007 Universiade website (http://www. bangkok2007 .com/en/main/index2.php).

Selection for the 2007 World University Games Team A. The World University Games Team will be selected as follo ws: 1. Athletes must be a United States citizen and eligible to compete on the 2007 World University Games Team. Must meet World University Games eligibility requirements as established by FISU . Only the following athletes may participate as competitors in the World Uni versity Games: a) students who are officially registered fo r and pursuing a full time course of study at a university or si milar institute whose status as a university is recognized by t he appropriate national academic authority of their country; b) former students of the institutions mentioned in a) who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the event; c) must be at least 17 and less than 28 years of age on January 1, 2007.

Anyone wishing to be considered for a World University Games team position, who is not currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a collegiate institution, must submit his intention to tryout for this team , along with proof of graduate student status or proof of registration for an undergraduate program at a collegiate institution to the Men's Program Director prior to the beginning of the 2007 U.S. National Qualifier.

2. Athletes must be among the five athletes who are selected by the World University Games Selection Committee

II. SELECTION PROCESS Selection for the 2007 World University Games Team will be handled by the World University Games Selection Committee.

A. World Uni versity Games Selection Committee composition: 1. Member selected by the Men's Program Committee 2. USA Gymnastics Senior National Team Coordinator 3. Athlete Representative - se lected by USA Gymnastics Athlete Council 4. Coach - selected by the College Coaches Association. This individual may not have an athlete in contention for the 2007 World University Games Team.

5. Men's Program Director - voice, no vote except in case of a tie B. World University Games Selection Committee Roles and Responsibilities: 1. Selection of the five team members for the World University Games.

2. Selection of a minimum of one replacement athlete, who mayor may not travel to the World University Games, for any World University Games Team member that cannot compete due to injury, illness, or other circumstances that would necessitate replacement.

4. Accept or reject petitions onto the 2007 World University Games (see Section III) .

5. The Men's Program Committee will name a replacement committee member in the event that a Selection Committee member is currently affiliated with any athlete in consideration for the World University Games Team or is unable to fulfill the obligations of the Selection Committee or continue for any reason.

C. Process for selection of the fi ve team member gymnasts for the 2007 World University Games Team . Athletes will be chosen from among the 2007 National Qualifier competitors or from petitions to the 2007 World University Games Team (see Section III). ~

Other appLicabLe factors 5. The WorLd University Games Team SeLection Committee will consider the information noted in number 4 above in the following prioritized manner. a. The resuLts from the 2007 QuaLifying Competition wiLL be used to identify the teams which wouLd produce the highest team score for the five man team, five athLetes compete, four scores count team preLiminary competition and any athLetes that may have individuaL event medaL potential. Priority wiLL be given to the team competition pLacement when seLecting the team members. b. The start vaLues of aLL potentiaL team members will be factored into the process of se Lecting the finaL team. c. The execution of aLL potentiaL team members wilL be factored into the process of seLecting the finaL team. d. The remaining factors, including the points ranking system, past domestic and internationaL experience and other appLicabLe factors, wiLL be considered by the committee onLy in the event that a finaL decision identifying the team members cannot be reached using the competition resuLts, start vaLues and execution factors.

D. The announcement of the WorLd University Games team members wiLLtake pLace within 48 hours from the conclusion of the 2007 NationaL QuaLifier.

B. Petition Procedures and Requirements 1. A petition to enter the 2007 NationaL QuaLifier or to be pLaced on the 2007 WorLd University Games Team may be submitted by any athLete.

Petitions to the 2007 NationaL QuaLifier wilL be considered for approvaL by the Men's Program Committee. ALL petitions to the NationaL QuaLifier must be received no Later than 48 hours prior to the start of competition to be considered. Petitions directLy to the 2007 WorLd University Games Team wi LL be considered for approvaL by the WorLd University Games SeLection Committee.

2. A petitioning athLete who is seLected as one of the five 2007 WorLd University Games Team members may be required to prove co mpetitive readiness. This dispLay of readiness may be executed at a Location and time to be determined by the 2007 WorLd Team SeLection Committee, but wiLL occur no Later than 35 days prior to the scheduLed team departure for the WorLd University Games. If the athLete is unabLe to demonstrate competitive readiness, one of the seLected aLternates wouLd be pLaced on the 2007 WorLd University Games Team.

XI. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Any member of the WorLd University Games Team, as weLL as any member of the WorLd University Games Team deLegation , must assume fuLL financiaL responsibility for any and aLL costs associated with their participation at the WorLd University Games.
