Its 20 water utilities invest nearly £6 billion ($7.5 billion) in assets each year and more than £5.25 billion ($6.75 billion) in services. Approximately 400 specialist engineering consultancies generate revenues of £2 billion ($2.6 billion) annually.

The UK’s academic and corporate research institutes are internationally renowned for their work on water. Each year, the UK Government spends around £110 million ($141 million) on water research and innovation through its research councils. There are also a range of research, testing and demonstration facilities both in the public and private sector.
