Be Thankful for Your Faith By Sister Rebecca White, OSU
Recently, I
became Godmother to a young man who no longer believes in God. I asked him how I could be his Godmother, given his unbelief, but that’s how life is sometimes. It doesn’t always make sense. Still, I treasure this role and am grateful that he feels safe enough to share with me his spiritual life. Yes, he is a deeply spiritual person.

This experience of Godmothering reminds me that faith is a gift, not a given. When was the last time that you expressed gratitude for your faith? Do you have moments when your faith is weak and moments when it is strong? A dear friend of mine had a big piece of one of her lungs removed last week; she had cancer. It was during this surgery that I felt deep gratitude for my faith in God. To whom else could I have turned at a time like that? Many, many people were praying for her and for me, and that helped me trust that God would do what was best. She came through surgery well but has a long way to go, in terms of rebuilding her physical strength and her breathing capacity. Each day is gift. Continued on back
