Dear Ursuline Community,

Reflecting on our 130th year, I am grateful for many blessings Our year-long celebration of Ursuline Wilmington’s historic anniversary gave us an opportunity to honor the legacy of our storied school and build on the positive momentum we see and feel today

Since our founding, Ursuline has prioritized the growth of our students in their academic, athletic, extracurricular, and spiritual pursuits It is a hallmark of St Angela Merici’s teachings, which pushes us to “strive to be faithful to that which God has called you, ” and our Ursuline Sisters, who prepared generations of students to selflessly serve and fearlessly lead in our global society This mission has helped Ursuline create a legacy based on the success of our students and alumnae, who have become the trailblazers, leaders, and pioneers our world needs

Strong legacies, like ours, are only possible through the support of a community that helps meet the evolving needs of a school that strives for excellence to benefit its students year after year Throughout our 130-year history, every step of the Academy’s growth was because of dedicated people like you, who knew something special was happening in our hallowed halls on Pennsylvania Avenue and propelled us forward through generosity, benevolence, and faith in our mission

This year, the Academy received $7 2 million in gifts, which ushered in a historic fundraising year that will provide a transformative experience for our students for generations to come The highlight of our fundraising success was the recordbreaking commitment of $5 million from the late Anthony N. Fusco Sr. for renovating and creating new athletic facilities for our campus On behalf of the entire Academy, we are incredibly grateful to him and are humbled by the legacy his gift will create for our students

The Anthony N Fusco Sr Fitness & Health Center represents a new chapter in Ursuline’s athletic legacy with a fully renovated gymnasium, a new fitness center, new locker rooms and athletic office spaces, and advanced accessibility features This project not only addresses a longstanding need but also fulfills a number of Blazer Brighter goals around health and well-being We look forward to unveiling the completion of the project in 2025

We also opened two new innovative learning labs - the 1893 I D E A Studio in the Upper School and the McConnell Dream Lab in the Lower School - thanks to the generosity of our donors. Both were designed to inspire creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking We have already seen amazing projects and ideas emerge from our students who love working in these learning spaces

Beyond these meaningful projects, we are also thrilled to report that we achieved the highest Annual Fund support in our history, raising nearly $650,000 in unrestricted donations The significance of this accomplishment represents both a record level of family, alumnae, and donor engagement, and a funding source that bolsters our operations and financial aid efforts. We are incredibly proud of this milestone because it demonstrates that our Ursuline community is as excited about our forward momentum as we are There is no greater feeling than to know that you approve of our vision and are behind us every step of the way

As we reflect on these achievements, it is clear that none of this would have been possible without our benefactors' unwavering support and enthusiasm The names in this 2023-24 Philanthropy Report support the next chapter of Ursuline’s legacy Each story is personal, as is your reason for giving. LASTING LEGACY

Before his passing on June 14, 2024, Mr. Anthony N. Fusco made a $5 Million transformational commitment to create the Anthony N. Fusco Sr. Fitness & Health Center. This gift is the largest in Ursuline’s 130-year history and will have a widespread impact across the academy. The outstanding donation is providing the complete reconstruction of the Laffey McHugh Gymnasium, an expanded fitness center for students and faculty, improved accessibility for those with disabilities, new locker rooms and athletic offices, and technological advancements to support the overall academic and athlete experience.

Anthony “Tony” N. Fusco Sr. was more than a successful businessman; he was a visionary who believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives. His significant financial contributions to Ursuline Academy, amounting to millions of dollars, have been instrumental in enhancing the school’s facilities, including the Anthony N. Fusco Sr. Student Life Center (2019) and our current project, the Anthony N. Fusco Sr. Health & Fitness Center. His generosity toward curricular programs and tuition assistance has ensured countless students access to the high-quality education that Ursuline Academy provides, empowering them to become the next generation of trailblazers, changemakers, and global leaders.

LISTER FAMILY SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Lister Family Scholars Program rewards and inspires academic achievement while recognizing students who are dedicated to the values of leadership and service. This scholarship program was established in Norman and Patricia’s honor by their daughter Melinda Krauss Lister from Ursuline Academy’s Class of 1992, her husband Christopher, and their children John, Madelyn, Olivia, and Amelia This scholarship is awarded to one of the top candidates applying for admission to Ursuline Academy’s Upper School each year. The recipient of the third Lister Family Scholarship is Sophie Brutsche, Class of 2028

In March, after attending the opening celebration for the 1893 I D E A Studio, Christopher and Melinda Lister spent time with several Upper School students. Melinda shared about her career in the banking industry and Christopher discussed his path to Tesla. They both spoke about their decision making process on balancing career success while raising four children
