Clinicals and Licensure As an Ursuline nursing student, you’ll have more than 800 clinical hours by the time you graduate with your degree. These hours are achieved through a combination of group clinicals and precepted experiences, where you’ll learn to work as a member of a healthcare team under the supervision of an experienced clinical instructor to gain hands-on experience in a real healthcare setting. If you already have a college degree and are enrolled in our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, you will complete most of your clinical hours through Dedicated Education Units (DEUs). There, students experience one-on-one instruction and individualized attention from a Registered Nurse. After successfully completing your clinicals and coursework, you’re eligible to take the Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination (the Next Generation NCLEX or NGN) to become a registered nurse. Ursuline’s NGN pass rate exceeds the Ohio and national pass rates for the first attempt. Some of our clinical sites: •
Cleveland Clinic - Euclid Hospital, Hillcrest Hospital, Marymount Hospital, South Pointe Hospital
•
University Hospitals - Ahuja Medical Center, Geauga Medical Center, Parma Medical Center, TriPoint Medical Center
•
Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center
Health Resources and Simulation Center Ursuline’s skills labs and simulation center provide opportunities for students to practice clinical skills with high-tech equipment to grow their confidence in interacting with and caring for patients. You’ll join your peers in developing assessment, critical thinking, and clinical judgment skills using high-fidelity manikins starting in your first nursing courses. Besides having the ability to blink and talk, these manikins can also alter their vital signs and assessment findings to reflect changes in their clinical status to help students learn to act quickly to manage the patient’s dynamic condition. You’ll also learn with state-of-the-art educational technology such as through HoloPatient. This augmented reality platform can assist you with your assessment skills by interacting with holographic patients.

Certifications TeamSTEPPS Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is an evidencebased teamwork system designed to improve patient safety in healthcare by enhancing communication and teamwork skills among healthcare professionals. TeamSTEPPS certification empowers nurses to become catalysts for positive change within their healthcare organizations, leading to a safer, more efficient, and more positive environment for both staff and patients. National Change Agent for Resuscitation Quality Improvement® Program Ursuline College is an early adopter of a new program aimed at improving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The National League for Nursing selected The Breen School of Nursing & Health Professions as a Change Agent for the Resuscitation Quality Improvement® (RQI®) program to ensure that students maintain a high level of competency in patient resuscitation. RQI®’s digital approach helps nursing students achieve sustained mastery of high-quality CPR skills and verified competence through short, quarterly practice and review sessions. The College’s Breen School was one of the first nursing programs in the country – and the only program in Northern Ohio – to require RQI® certification to ensure competency in CPR. This format allows students to transition to practice in our healthcare systems—who require RQI® for competency.
