Foundational Core 9 credits
Provides the initial (essential) critical knowledge, skills, and competencies for integrated learning across disciplines and within a student’s area of study. The foundational core will be required in a student’s first year of study and provides a common starting point for engaging with Liberal Education at a Catholic University. In particular, students will develop foundational knowledge, skills, and competencies in writing and communication, critical thinking, ethics, faith and reason, and Catholic Social Teaching. The Foundational Core consists of three prescribed courses.
Integrative Core 21-28 credits
Supports learning across the curriculum by connecting, synthesizing, and transferring knowledge, skills, and competencies to new and complex situations and experiences. The Integrative Core builds on the knowledge, skills, and competencies introduced in the Foundational Core and seeks to deepen, integrate, and develop them into a student’s life, career, and sense of citizenship. The Integrative Core is made up of requirements that can be fulfilled through a variety of courses. Each course in the Integrative Core can only fulfill a single designated requirement. Up to 7 credits of the “Reasoning” requirements may be met in a student’s major.
Vocational Core 6 credits
Connects the knowledge, skills, and competencies developed in Foundational and Integrative Cores with learning experiences within a student’s particular field of study or other professional courses.
Requirements
Courses offered that also meet the designation of “Writing Intensive” or “Wellness.” Both requirements are met through courses that have the necessary additional objectives and can be taken in the Integrative Core, Vocational Core, or major course work.

Biology Biology majors pursue careers in fields such as health, science, education, biotechnology, and environmental conservation. From the tiniest organisms to the most expansive ecosystems covering our planet, biology is the study of life in all its forms. Perhaps the most significant value of a bachelor’s degree in biology is its versatility. You could be on the frontlines of groundbreaking genetics research, contribute to saving endangered species, or develop innovative solutions to challenges like climate change and food insecurity. Biology offers the ultimate opportunity to customize your degree. Students can select one of our many concentrations: •
Bachelor of Arts in Biology - fulfill pre-professional requirements while still having freedom to select a variety of courses
•
Medical Laboratory Sciences with the Cleveland Clinic - be on the forefront of cutting-edge technology used in clinical lab settings

Mathematics Learn how to use math to understand the world and shape your future. Mathematics is at the heart of our rapidly advancing world— underpinning discoveries in science, shaping innovation in technology, and guiding decisions in fields as diverse as healthcare, finance, and cybersecurity. As a math major at Ursuline, you’ll gain the analytical thinking skills that employers value most and the problem-solving mindset needed to thrive in any career. Whether you’re modeling the spread of disease, analyzing chemical reactions, or encrypting data to secure information systems, the math you study will have powerful, real-world applications. You’ll explore topics like calculus, number theory, statistics, and linear algebra, and see how these subjects connect to disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, and computer science. Our flexible curriculum allows you to easily add a second major or minor in a closely related field—like education, chemistry, biology, or business—broadening your career options and deepening your expertise. Small class sizes ensure you’ll receive personalized instruction and mentorship from faculty dedicated to your success. As a capstone to your experience, you’ll complete a senior project that invites you to investigate a mathematical topic of your choosing, blending your interests and career goals into a rigorous independent study. Bridge Programs 3+4 Pharmacy Program Ursuline partners with nationally recognized Duquesne University to offer students interested in pharmacy the opportunity to earn both a BA in Chemistry or Biochemistry and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree at an accelerated pace. After three years of majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry at Ursuline, qualified students can enroll at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and complete the PharmD program in four additional years. Duquesne’s program ranks second among the nation’s Catholic pharmacy schools and boasts a 99% job placement rate for the past 25 years. 4+4 LECOM Early Acceptance Program for Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy Get accepted to medical, dental, or pharmacy school before you even graduate high school with our 4+4 partnership with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (LECOM) medical, dental, and pharmacy schools. Through this program, you’ll earn a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree from Ursuline in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry and automatically enter a four-year medical, dental, or pharmacy program the summer after graduation. LECOM reserves up to five seats each year specifically for Ursuline students. 4+1 Education Program In Ursuline’s undergraduate education program you’ll study a major that interests you and supports the teaching licensure area you plan to pursue, like mathematics or biology. (That’s the 4.) At the same time, you’ll take 12-15 credits of education courses that will provide the foundation you’ll build upon at the master’s level. Once you earn your undergraduate degree, you’ll enter our graduate teacher licensure program, which you will complete in one year. (That’s the 1.) You will leave with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and eligibility for an Ohio teaching license. 3+2 Engineering Program In the 3+2 Engineering program, you’ll spend three years at Ursuline majoring in Chemistry or Biology before moving to the University of Dayton for an additional two years. The first year of engineering school fulfills the requirements for a bachelor’s in Chemistry or Biology from the Ursuline College Campus of Gannon University, while the combined two fulfill the requirements for the M.S. in Engineering from Dayton. The University of Dayton School of Engineering is nationally recognized and is the number one Catholic University in the nation for all sponsored engineering research and development. You can choose from the following pathways: BA Biology to MS Bioengineering, BA Chemistry to MS Chemical Engineering, or BA Chemistry to MS Materials Engineering.
