President E. Bruce Heilman Five years of a time in history never to be forgotten are over, and President E. Bruce Heilman summarizes it all: "Q uality ."

Making a small university count as one of the best.

Seeing the students through an objective. mind, one not entangled in student life , the President believes that the University of Richryiond is enjoying a period of stabilizing, a recovery from the political upheaval of a few years ago, "a time to become genteel."

Five years ago he could walk across the campus and meet the smiles and greetings of only a few students. Now , almost everyone offers a hello to the President.

He, seeing us change, believes in this as a vital force of life, intellectual and social.

We commend him in agreement.

UR Football Richmond goes out a winner, defeating five of six conference foes in route to the trophy.

Southern Conference Champions . . . what is next?

The skies never fell on the Spiders this season. They had sunny days, good tries, Georgia and West Virginia and a few William and Marys.

The right side of the defensive line drew its honors. Mike Copley and Dickie Childress were named to the conference team.

On offense, Rod Elam made the team and collected the Jacobs blocking award.

After one year's worth of experience, Coach Tait moved on into new tactics and players, trying again ...

O.B. said goodbye at Tech, but the hieroglyphics on his cast were highlights of the sidelines the entire season.

The trip to Cincinnati was great. The game was another story. "All the mistakes were offensive ones," was said, in a doubleentendre to take them all "it took too long," said Tait after Furman's defeat. Better late than never, said 13,500 fans ...

At Blacksburg, the problem was supposedly "inexperience and mistakes," but "fumbles and interception" were what cursed us against Ball State. And hopefully some good came out of our uncanny ability to pinpoint our problems after the games were over.

Playboy did us a favor and mentioned UR in its Southern Conference forecast. Who cares if they laid odds on a 2 and 9 record for us? It gave a lot of students a good excuse to buy the magazine.

Beyond that, eyes are turning to Montreal and the quadro-annual "small sports" festival called the Olympics.

After all this they will be back with I ittie money, with small crowds , competition for competition's sake alone.
