Retirement can be a time to slow down, but for many seniors, it’s the perfect opportunity to stay active, connect with friends, and improve their well-being— all on the golf course. Golf has become one of the most popular sports for retirees, offering a balance of relaxation, exercise, and socializing that is hard to find elsewhere. Seniors are trading in their office wear for golf attire, embracing the camaraderie and competition that comes with each round.
One of the greatest perks of golf is that it’s a low-impact sport, making it accessible for people of various physical abilities. Walking the course, swinging a club, and engaging in light exercise can have tremendous health benefits. A day on the green helps with cardiovascular health, improves flexibility, and supports mobility—all of which are essential for seniors looking to maintain their health as they age. Spending a few hours walking around the course is also excellent for weight management and muscle strengthening, especially when golfers forgo the cart and walk their rounds. Being outdoors is another fantastic benefit of golf. Sunlight exposure helps increase vitamin D levels, which strengthens bones and boosts immunity, while fresh air can improve mood and reduce stress. Studies have shown that time outdoors can significantly impact mental well-being, with the bonus of warding off feelings of isolation or loneliness, which can sometimes accompany retirement.
Retirement often marks a transition where people miss the camaraderie and regular social interactions of the workplace.

Golf, however, is an ideal social outlet. Playing with friends allows for hours of casual conversation and friendly competition, helping retired golfers strengthen their bonds and even create new friendships. Many retirees join local golf leagues or clubs to keep up a consistent schedule of games, making it easier to stay connected. Golf also provides an opportunity for mixed generations to play together. Whether it’s with adult children, grandchildren, or old friends, the inclusive nature of the sport means everyone can participate, regardless of skill level. For some, these rounds of golf are a way to create lasting family memories and share a passion for the game across generations.

Another appeal of golf is its accessibility. Many courses offer senior discounts or special rates for retirees, making the game more affordable. Seniors can choose from public courses, private clubs, or even enjoy driving ranges for a quicker round of practice. Plus, with advances in golfing gear and technology, seniors have more options for clubs and accessories suited to their needs, helping make the game easier and more enjoyable.
For seniors, retirement golfing is more than just a sport—it’s a lifestyle.
that keeps you active, offers community, and brings priceless moments with friends. Each round is a new challenge, and few things compare to the joy of a great shot. So grab your clubs, call your friends, and embrace your golden years on the green—one swing at a time.

To escape a sand trap with confidence, focus on “splashing” the sand about two inches behind the ball. Start by positioning the ball forward in your stance, digging in your feet for a stable base, and opening the clubface. Aim to strike the sand rather than the ball itself; this lifts the ball up and out on a cushion of sand. Keep your swing smooth, avoid decelerating, and follow through for a clean finish. Let the sand wedge do its job, and trust the loft to land the ball softly on the green. With practice, this technique will help you tackle bunkers like a pro.

Inspired by golfer John Daly, this cocktail is a vodka-spiked blend of lemonade and iced tea—an alcoholic twist on the Arnold Palmer.

Eco-tourism is a rewarding way for families to connect with nature, create lasting memories, and make a positive impact on the planet. With a focus on sustainability, eco-tourism minimizes environmental impact, supports local communities, and fosters respect for natural habitats. Here’s how to plan a family-friendly eco-tourism experience.

ENJOY the wonders of our planet responsibly
Look for places that emphasize conservation and responsible tourism, such as national parks, nature reserves, and eco-friendly resorts. Destinations that limit visitor numbers or encourage eco-friendly activities like hiking, wildlife watching, or camping can provide an immersive experience while minimizing environmental damage. Consider places like Costa Rica, Iceland, and U.S. national parks, known for their eco-tourism practices.
Many eco-lodges and green hotels offer accommodations that prioritize sustainable practices, such as solar power, waste reduction, and water conservation. These places often use locally sourced materials and employ local staff, giving back to the community. Some lodges even host educational programs for children, allowing them to learn about local flora and fauna firsthand.
Traveling sustainably means reducing carbon emissions. Consider choosing direct flights or, if possible, overland options like trains, which often have a smaller carbon footprint. Once at your destination, opt for walking, biking, or public transportation. This also allows families to experience the local culture more intimately.
In eco-tourism, activities should have minimal impact on the environment. Instead of motorized tours, explore guided nature walks, bird watching, kayaking, and other low-impact adventures. Many locations offer educational programs or tours where kids can learn about conservation efforts.
Teach children the importance of respecting the natural environment by leaving no trace. This means avoiding littering, staying on marked trails, and refraining from disturbing wildlife. Encourage them to take photos instead of souvenirs to preserve the environment for future visitors.

Some eco-tourism programs allow families to participate in volunteer opportunities, such as beach cleanups, tree planting, or helping in wildlife rehabilitation centers. These experiences can enrich your trip and teach children the value of giving back.
Eco-tourism allows families to bond with nature, learn about sustainability, and foster a spirit of environmental stewardship. By choosing eco-friendly travel practices, your family can enjoy the wonders of our planet responsibly.

Biophilia—the concept of bringing nature indoors—is a major trend in home design, transforming living spaces into wellness-focused retreats. This approach blends beauty with function, reconnecting us with nature to create a calming, health-enhancing environment.

1Add Indoor Plants: Indoor plants are an easy way to embrace biophilia. Mix large plants, like fiddle leaf figs, with smaller options, like succulents or ferns, to add greenery and purify the air.
2Let in Natural Light: Maximize natural light by keeping windows unobstructed and adding mirrors to reflect sunlight. Natural light improves mood and supports better sleep.
3Use Natural Materials: Incorporate bamboo, and rattan in furniture, flooring, and decor. These textures add warmth and connect your space to the earth.
4Create Outdoor Views: Arrange furniture to face windows or hang landscape artwork if views are limited. Seeing nature, even indirectly, reduces stress and enhances focus.
5Embrace Earthy Colors: Choose nature-inspired colors like greens, browns, and soft blues to evoke calm and ground your space in an organic palette.

With these simple additions, you can create a home that reflects biophilia’s natural beauty and promotes well-being, making your space a refreshing sanctuary in tune with the outdoors.

Pickleball, a fast-growing sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is easy to learn and fun for all ages. Played on a smaller court with a net similar to tennis, it involves paddles and a perforated plastic ball. The game can be played as singles or doubles, making it versatile and social.
The rules are simple: players serve diagonally, and the ball must bounce once on each side before volleys begin. Points are scored only on the serve, and games typically go to 11 points, requiring a 2-point lead to win. A key strategy is controlling the “kitchen,” a seven-foot area near the net, where players aren’t allowed to volley.
Pickleball is low-impact, so it’s gentle on the joints while providing a great cardio workout. It’s popular among retirees and younger players alike for its quick pace and accessible skill level. Local communities are adding pickleball courts, and leagues are forming nationwide.
Whether you’re looking for fitness, competition, or simply a fun way to spend time with friends, pickleball offers something for everyone. Just grab a paddle, find a court, and get ready to join one of the fastest-growing sports around!
